I believe a good writer is one who loves the story they are writing, are writing it because, ah Hell, they WANT to! That's a good writer to me- somebody who could care less what readers though about her story. As long as the writer loves her work, the writer is a success. I've heard of a lot of people who write and get published, but have racial slurs written all through their books that they're not even aware of. Yeah, if you love your work - and you know its good, that's important - you're successful already :)

You don't have to be a skilled singer to know when someone's singing horribly. There are other issues, besides grammar, that people have with the series--like poor character development, for one.

People keep comparing Meyer to Austen and that's just wrong. You know most of the people love the Twilight saga and the Host and so what if it's not freakin' austen? If people love it there shouldn't be some shallow boring people who say: well I hate it because it's just a teenbook. It's a bestseller and it didn't become that for no reason. They are both women authors writing about a love affair of a wealthy, confident, older man and a young girl who is smart and full of potential, but just becoming a woman. Also, the books are both more meant to entertain and inspire then to embark into any deep philosophy.

The two writers are very similar. But Im thinking authors like Austen might have very snobby fans who don't want to hear "Austen" and" Vampire" in the same sentence.

i read lotr in two weeks ( because i really liked it and i wanted to really understand everything) i read all the harry poter books in 1-3 days each, i read the inheritance cycle in about 1 week each book... it took me about two weeks to read twilight alone.. which means she's not good :S

I think that people have a right to an opinion, but I think it's awful to call her a horrible writer because she isn't bad at all. (I'm a big fan :]) People need to look at all of her accomplishments as a whole, and look at her as a good role model because she did something that she didn't think she could do. The books are OK, but she really is no J.K. Rowling. She writes in first person which is very limiting and she does it weakly. The books read a little like a girl's diary. The portion of "Midnight Sun" that she posted to her site is from Edward's point of view and she doesn't have a good grasp of the way that a guy thinks. She should probably abandon the idea of finishing hat one. Maybe Edward is actually gay!

Meyer just took the basic structure for most teenager romance novels and add tiny pieces. Read more books and then you would know that there many books like Twilight.
