I do fma too so a lot of techniques look familiar.. but a bit stylised.. I know it's a demo but how much of this is really applicable in real life?? it's beautiful but has this guro ever been in a real fight before?
@halfhausaman Hi there. Yes, this guro has been in real fights, growing up in bad neighborhoods of Paris, and living in downtown Miami for a while... I also went to Thailand for training and fighting... But this is not the point. The title of this video is Tuloytuloy, which means flowing. This is a demo of the fluidity of movement in FMA. The multiplication of movements is part of the training in Kali to make sure that if 1, or 2, or 3 of your attacks are blocked, you will keep going.
@halfhausaman Don't worry, no hard feeling ;-) I understand your point of view, and I am the first one to say say we must train realisticly to be efficient. But I also believe that training half of the time to be a warrior and half of the time on the "art" part of FMA is the key to balance and inner peace. If always focusing on combat, lots of martial artists become paranoiac. If only training on drills and kata or flow, they become weak. There is a balance in between.
@halfhausaman Again, not the point of tuloytuloy. I also believe, even though efficiency is a must in FMA and we must spend time "sharpening our blades", martial artists should not be obsessed by "real fight". Spending 20 years of training for a fight that may never come, when all around us is falling apart (health, ecology, pollution, violence, education, values, spirituality)... It's maybe time that martial arts training be used for a higher purpose than "does this work in a real fight"
@FMASingapore I'm sorry but that is ridiculous yes... the world is falling apart but doing tuloy tuloy or pulluts or katas won't make a difference to that.. maybe you're some sort of hippy or something but real problems require real solutions.. these arts were made for the sole purpose of fighting and the whole point of fmas is self defense and simple but brutal efficiency thats why people take them up.. yes artistry is good but defence comes formost in times past all men carried swords..
@FMASingapore being part of one of the few generations of humanity who have been robbed of warrior culture it is important to preserve it as much as we can and not turn the ancient battle preparations of our ancestors into a "dance" I say this with the deepest of respect.
Just wanted to say what an awsome clip this was I love the fluidity you have in your work, something I find lacking in some of the "robotic" Kali / Escrima systems.
Beautiful to see this is why I chosse South East Asian arts ;)
i strongly recommend that anyone who is most interested to learn this kind of art is to study the soft movements of taiji chuan. The fast flowing moves of the fighters are attributed to their relaxed muscles by which, can be developed thru taiji training...
I myself have around 15 years of Chen style Taiji behind me and Taiji principals are taught in our Kali Majapahit school as well as the Filipino arts.
actually sir, i was among the trainees who attended the seminar in hillside last Sunday. So sad to know however that such indigenous martial arts that are as good as the foreign ones were introduced to us only this time, though, not too late...the questions is,,,,where have all the Filipino Instructors gone???
I think there are still some great FMA instructors and masters in the Philippines... But they are very secretive. Maybe the role of foreign instructors as myself in the Philippines is just to remind them that the world is very much interested in FMA and that it is time to open up.
@feuna35 they went underground, some died long time ago keeping their secrets with them, while others instruct few/selected students or not teaching the arts any more, and the sad fact is this masters who rarley teach/don't teach/are dead has the knowledge of some rare forms of FMA, but basically they teach FMA just the same they only vary their art form.
The techniques is so amazing. I live in Java, the birthplace of Majapahit imperium, but I didn't found this very fast flowing in Javanese pencak silat.

WOW! love it.
may I ask how do you work your flow. I'm amazed by all your videos and the fluidity of your style.
TKD1972 3 years ago
Hi there, thanks for nice comment.
Too improve your flow, you have to work slow motion, know your targets (no flowering), breath, be creative, and train, train, train.
