  • That Nautilus at the start literally took my breath away.

  • Its always good too watch the sir. it takes your mind of daily matters, and lets you discover the real world. Thanks for that. from J.C Osinga from Groningen Holland.

  • Kudos for the child labourer at 10:00

  • How old is this? Late 80s?

  • if i went wandering around my local park with a hammer the cops would have me MUGGER on the prowl loll peace out

  • @ododargo Well you could always dress like Indiana Jones, but then they might haul you off to the funny farm.

  • THe Brits are the best

  • @Diamonddavej Thanks, but if you'll look at the comments, you'll see that I've figured that out.

  • You know that anything David Attenborough is in is well worth watching, you learn so much.

  • @STEPHENWRAYSFORD33 true story :)

  • @pawpawno1 No, I'm saying this IS the real cave. It's been tidied up and turned into a bit of a museum, but it's still the same place the trees grew.

  • This series is the epitome of interesting and useful documentaries on paleontology, thank you SO MUCH for the upload!

  • One BBC documentary a day keeps the shrink away!

  • @WireMosasaur Can't share the link (damn filters), but Googling "fossil grove glasgow" tells you this is a legit natural place.

  • @WireMosasaur Yeah, that's the right screenname this time... See below.

  • @WireMomasaur You may be right. But these are natural sandstone casts, if I'm hearing right, not plaster. It's not entirely unlikely this is the actual spot where these trees grew, were buried and were eventually rediscovered. That fog does look like a dry ice trick, but maybe not. The more I think about it, the less sure I am either way. To the Googlemobile!

  • @Inediblehulk Yeah I think your right. That's just a set. They're showing use what it's like there with out going to a cave or whatever. I mean your at Attenborough's duds! He never wears that in the field.

  • The music at the credits wins my nomination for "Most Unnecessarily Sinister Theme in a Non-Alex Jones Documentary". Seriously, I was expecting to see a fossil break free of its aeons-old tomb and crack a devilish grin. Maybe I've just seen too many cheesy movies.

  • That ancient forest/cave at 16:00 has to be the fakest looking natural environment I've ever seen! Maybe I've just seen too many cheesy movies.

  • @Inediblehulk I believe it could be a museum exhibit, I don't think they were actually trying to recreate a natural environment populated by cast fossils. :P

  • @Inediblehulk No, it is not fake. It is a fossil forest discovered in Scotland in 1888, it's called Fossil Grove and it's in Victoria Park, Glasgow.

"Situated in Victoria Park, .. The tree stumps are the remains of an ancient forest, around 330 million years old. Debris from these huge forests eventually formed the coal seams that helped Glasgow grow into a major industrial city. Fossil Grove is one of the most famous in-situ Carboniferous forest examples in the world."

  • It''s great to have another opportunity to watch this marvelous series again, Thank You very much for this upload !

  • Thanks for this extra-ordinary upload.....This series indeed seems to me one of the best David Attenborough series.....Amazing...Just amazing......
