At least in the Tags, if not in the subtitle or Information section, or even in a Subtitle.

Frankly, it's disingenuous, imho, to not list the authors of all your songs on YT videos, if indeed the songs are written by someone else than Joy or John Paul...

Loved seeing y'all at The Fillmore in SF, but this is important info to acknowledge-- again, imho...

@lauriroset they're not being disingenuous. if you click on the 'original' performance video of this same song from 3 years ago (it's a black & white production), they clearly state it being a Cohen song.

It may be an oversight by their techies but that still doesn't make it OK, imho..

I know about "original" video of this, but point is about THIS particular video.

Many folks will not see that 'original' video and may get the misperception, since Joy and JP wrote almost all the songs they perform, that this is also an 'original' of theirs - and it's not...

Btw, I gifted them the 24K gold CD of Jennifer Warnes singing Lenny Cohen's song, b/c I know how much they love his music...

PS. All that needs to be done (on this specific video) is to have whoever is managing @TheCivilWars YouTube account go into the Annotations and edit in the Tags or Info sections, like next to where it says that Allister Ann shot & edited the video, that Leonard Cohen wrote the music and lyrics...

Again, imho, all videos where one musician COVERS the songs or music of another artist, it behooves them to be responsible and state that information somewhere on the particular video...

@lauriroset I don't mean to be coy, but they did fully license the song from Cohen (thus they could have it on their CD.) This means that not only is he getting royalties on any revenue they're earning, but that they now have ownership of their version of the song.

Think James Taylor and "You've Got a Friend," (Carole King) or Johnny Cash with "Hurt" (Nine Inch Nails). They licensed the song, attributed songwriting credit when it was due (on sources of revenue) and now it's pretty much theirs.

Hi - I appreciate your points and don't find them to be coy at all.

It's an interesting and legitimate perspective which I wasn't aware of, and makes sense on many levels.

Obviously where I was coming from in my previous comments was thinking that Joy and John Paul were merely "covering" Lenny Cohen's song, and hadn't fully licensed it, etc.

Final thought: I would still maintain my suggestion that adding the name "Leonard Cohen" only to TAGS section is valid and useful.
