  • Marvin Gaye & Al Green = "the orginators of swagg"

  • Shame he couldn't kick his demons to keep making some of the best music in our lifetimes.

Wrote, produced, sang about: Love, Hate, prejudice, the poor-rich, divorce, children, the bad past, the potential in the future,...

Great Artist!!! He even sang his own BackGround vocals,...early on:):)

  • No artist in History has produced 3 Albums that Show case a ' Depth of Feeling ' and 'Understanding' about so many things COUPLED with Marvin's 'Degree of Sincerity' when it comes to the 'Expression' of those Feelings / "what's Goin On" dealt with society's social ills / "Let's Get It On" covered our Sexual Thoughts & Feelings / "Here My Dear" dealt with the 'Love Changes we all go through in life

  • No Matter what anybody may say R. Kelly will never be able to touch MARVIN GAYE / The Reason Marvin is untouchable as a performer is because Marvin was so much DEEPER on so many levels of understanding & feeling / Marvin is unmatched when it comes to 'SINCERITY OF EXPRESSION'

  • Amen brother.

  • If you haven,t heard this one you need to!!!!

  • Best music ever ! god bless Marvin

  • One of the very best

  • The best to the best

  • Unity and Humanity. God, do I miss Marvin!! This song still relates today. War is NOT the answer. Long live Marvin!!!

  • One of his greatest hits of the time

  • maybe the most beautifull music of 20 century

  • Marvin's technique and mastery of microphone placement has always fascinated me. Lionel Richie said that Marvin taught him a lot about the distance between the microphone and the mouth and was very deliberate in how he used the space within the 6 inch range he kept between it. I'd love to know more about those technical aspects of his artistry. Ella Fitzgerald had a similar mastery of the space between her mouth and the mic to create specific textures of sound.

  • IF THERE IS EVER A SONG THAT CAPTURES A CERTAIN PERIOD, THIS IS ONE SONG THAT DOES. HE WROTE THIS SONG BASE OF WHAT HIS BROTHER WAS TELLING HIM WHAT WAS GOING ON IN (VIETNAM). AND WHAT WAS GOING RIGHT HERE IN THE UNITED STATES. IT WAS A TIME THAT WE AS AFRICAN AMERICANS WAS FIGHTING FOR EQUAL RIGHTS. YOU SEND US OVER SEAS TO FIGHT ON THE FRONT LINE, AND WHEN WE RETURN TO THE PLACE WE CALL HOME, THEY WANTED US TO TAKE A BACK SEAT. THANKS TO MARVIN GAYE AND THE WHOLE ENTIRE MOTOWN FAMILY.

  • @Super3259 Yes, you're right. It was a very bad time. Oh, VietNam was a nightmare and so many of the youngsters sent there, via the draft, were black. Then, when the ones that survived came home (black and white) , they were so dishonored. The damn politicians, Johnson, Nixon...let those boys down so bad. I am proud that they finally put up a decent memorial in DC. The memorial is what it is, the names on the wall, but the statues above say it all. Stand in front of them, tears will come

  • @Moonchalice Minorities and po" white trash got the little end of the "Vietnam" stick. Sometimes we came back, sometimes we came back just physically, sometimes we just came back mentally, and sometimes we came back in a box. Sometimes we didn't didn't come back at all.

  • Look up the word smooth in Websters dictionary, There's a picture of Marvin below it. Just an absolute incredible performer! Frankie Beverly said it best. Silky, silky soul singer.

  • What a loss !!!

  • His best song every!!

  • master

  • Pure perfection!

  • bj te le meilleure tony

  • War is not the answer. He was an activists and much more then just a singer! Amazing I'm 26 and understand exactly what he means in all he's song. We need to wake up stop being so hateful to others.

  • One of the best. Love this song.

  • WAR IS NOT THE ANSWER, FOR ONLY LOVE CAN CONQUER HATE!!!

    Man!! God Bless!! AWESOME TALENT!!

Will always remember you and your songs!!

    You are missed!!

  • AMAZING

  • I remember "Motown 25, Yesterday, Today, and Forever" like it was yesterday. It ranks as one of the greatest TV Broadcasts of all time! But the greatest moment of all that night was when they introduced Marvin Gaye. He came out looking so good in that cream white tux speaking words defining what the Motown Sound really was and how it evolved....all the while playing beautiful piano music that added emotion to his words. Then... He did it: "What's going ON?" to a standing ovation

  • Forever young !

  • Marvin's last televised performance :(

  • I was in tears as I 1st saw this--RIP Brother. Wolfsky9

  • Taking nothing away from this groovemaster orchestra, the main rhythm section of

THE FUNK BROTHERS......... should have been here and performed on Motown 25.

For whatever reason, their real props and spotlight would have to wait till years later, before most of the world and especially the music lovers in the US would even know their names and finally INSISTon their well deserved legacy of being the greatest hit making machine of ALL time. The UK appreciated and knew of them earlier on.

  • Effortless!

  • MARVIN <3

  • I hear this and I can't help but wonder, music is like this is gone...forever.

  • NO OTHER song give me goose bumps every time I hear it like this does!!! Talent, message..you name it...this song inspires me to want to do more and better for my brother man.....thank you Marvin!!!

  • Marvin never fails to bring a tear to my eye. There are very few who sing from the soul, none more than dear Marvin

  • THIS is R&B!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Happy Birthday Marvin!

  • Se a música de hoje não retroceder pelo menos 30 anos, (nível mundial), daqui hà alguns anos

será tão descartável quanto uma garrafa pet.

  • What could this emotional man have done to get himself shot to death by his own father who emptied a smith&wesson on his chest ? funny world,..

  • i believe he beat the crap out of his crazy father, that might be one possible explanation

  • Man! This guy is just so sexy..even when he aint trying. Listen to those words, his poise the voice! Beautiful song! Pure Classic performance. Miss you Marvin! But we got your music ...and some dese vids. Give Thanx

  • Marvin Gaye--> One of the Masters.

  • The other concidental thing is that both Marvin and Michael were the final holdouts for performing on this show. Barry had to convince both of them to appear. Michael was so excited about what he was doing with Thriller and Marvin had become a virtual recluse dealing w/ drug issues.

  • Just think a year after this great performance Marvin was taken from us. RIP Marvin Gaye.

  • Marvin Gaye, all the Temptations but Otis Williams, and now MJ. With all of those stars gone, I hope someday we can bring back the magic that Motown once put in it's music.

  • @erazaqi yes, how sad!! Let' keep the MAGIC of this music in our hearts!! Love from Germany

  • @erazaqi actually Otis Williams from the original temptations and Dennis Edwards (who replaced Ruffin) are still alive.

  • There's all kinda cool, then there's Marvin Gaye cool!!!

  • R.I.P. Marvin Gaye

  • I agree. Marving Gaye in all his sensitivity.

  • There are two main performances I remember clearly from Motown 25 - Michael Jackson's Billie Jean (1st time we saw him do the Moonwalk) and this one by the immortal Marvin!! This song is still so true today!!

  • @recovering16 AMEN! WHAT A NIGHT! THE MOST MEMORABLE NIGHT OF TV IN MY LIFE! XOXO TMH

  • One of the greatest!!!!!
