English has no feelings, can't express anything important on the world, no matter, Shakespeare or Byron. RUssian or Hungarian are the most exciting and beautiful languages, but I could mention a doezn beautiful Asian or African ones too. Or Spanish, my lifetime LOVE is the nicest. Anything but English...
That's a rather odd statement considering the poetry of Sylvia Plath, E.E. Cummings, Shakespeare, T.S. Eliot..the lyrics of Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Laura Nyro, Paul Simon, Jimi Hendrix...the novels of Jack Kerouac, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway...the plays of Eugene O'neill, Tennesee Williams, Harold Pinter...the writings of Krishnamurti, Crowley, Martin Luther King..So in all that you find nothing is beautifully, honestly, powerfully expressed? The Phrase: I Love You?
@billdmackay you should learn other languages, and you will understand what iam talking about. until then you can not know what I meant. well, shakespeare, Shelley, Lennon I also like but what are they if you compare them with poems of Pushkin, Attila Jozsef or Garcia Lorca? not really interesting.
@hamsterdj78 No, it would be a disgrace to say that. French is such an extraordinaily awesome language, almost impossible to express that in words. And I am NOT a native French speaker. I am actually Romanian.
Aww!! How can anyone not like her? Throughout this entire movie I couldn't help but feel both Edith's joys and sorrows. A-W-E-S-O-M-E acting job by Marion Cotillard!
I see Edith Piaf in her, I know they're different and Edith is unreplacable, but this movie helps us meet Edith once again, lets us have another gulp of her talent, along with amazing Marion Cotillard!
France had Edith Piaf and we had Judy Garland! They are both Legends and sang with their hearts inside out! She deserved the Oscar! It was a great performance of a legendary singer! I don't know if Hollywood will ever do a film about Judy Garland as realistic as this film depicted Edith Piaf! Great Performance & Film!
@starblue1986 I'm agree with you I love both, Edith Piaf and Judy Garland was Great....I always love the song of Edith Piaf, even though I don't undersrand French.
@MsThunderroad There were millions of non-white fans of legendary Edith Piaf when she was an international star 1919-1947, many were American (my grandparents) or French (Josephine Baker, a black jazz dancer and legend in her own right, loved among the many other non-white as well as white French). It was filmed in France, French actors, French film-makers so it wasn't Hollywood she came as a guest to win the Oscar she deserved. Hollywood movies/Oscars definitely do need MANY more dark people.
The love that the two of them had was deep and beautiful. Marcel Cerdan was the middleweight champion of the world. After a title fight in 1949 against Jake LaMotta in America he boarded a plane back to France. Tragically it crashed near the Azores killing all on board. Edith lost the love of her life and consequently never recovered.
@FanChrisproductions Nonnnnnn jamais!!!
@FanChrisproductions Marion is portraying the legendary Edith Piaf in the years 1919-1947. It was very common for American and European women alike (according to my well-traveled great-grandmother) to wear their eyebrows like that in those days and even as late as the early 1950's. Edith did not always have her eyebrows like that yet she sometimes indeed did (as can be seen in photographs and in film footage).
@codster323 yes, she portrays the legendary French singer Edith Piaf in the film "La Vie en Rose" about the life of aforementioned international star, who inspired millions with the songs she sang in the years 1919-1947. Marion Cotillard was absolutely outstanding in the role, so good I could almost not believe it. Very accurate to all I have read, heard, and seen regarding Edith. Difficult role to portray, Edith lived a tough and complicated life. Phenomenal film watch it with subtitles
Did you notice? When the waiter comes in 1:03 (arrives at the OPPOSITE side of the table), the guy tastes the whine and, in the close-up, nodds to the OTHER side of the table (1:11) to say "very good" :-)
@jasmine7472 No, I don't think so. Usually in such kind of restaurants, the waiter gives you a small sip of whine, then waits if you like it, and THEN pours more in your glass (and the glass of your friend). Thant' why the guy tells the waiter "It's good" so he gets more of the whine.
" "La Vie En Rose" star Marion Cotillard was a surprise winner in the best actress category." maybe a surprise winner in hollywood politico circles but to anyone who saw the movie - she was practically guaranteed the award. Her performance was mind blowing!!
@thejam51 Pig farms were (and continue to be) booming in Morocco. Now it's mostly bc of tourism. Just because he raised them doesn't mean he ate them, lol.
@KhmerSerey1 marcel cerdan was a hudge star at this time , immagine michael jordan saying to madonna he 's bee raising pigs in arkansas ,i guess she would laugh too ;)
I saw this movie a couple of years ago, knowing very little about Edith or her career. The movie itself was a pretty good movie, with excellent acting by Cotillard and cast. It also had some interesting story-telling devices that worked very well. Because of the movie, I was inspired to learn more about Edith's music, which has been well worth the effort! What a great singer and performer she was!
She did such an amazing job!! You watch a video where Edith performs la vie en rose, compare it to Marion, and you've almost seen double. She even looked a lot like her. Such an amazing, amazing job.
If any actress deserved to get the Oscar than it was Marion Cotillard. when I saw this movie I really believed to see the real Edith Piaf life. everything, her voice, her shameless laughing her singing figure and mimics was identical with her. @MsVenarsian Is there necessarily a problem with a culture that is founded upon others? Many countries' cultures are unoriginal as well, but this does not mean that their culture is bad either.Looking back in history one can see that the merger of cultures is natural.
@MandoPadill Sure it is the base of cultures, my question is not sarcastic neither offensive just making an opinion in which I believe the American Culture is in fact a merge of various others from different continents. I never said bad, just not original.
When Marion Cotillard won, I had not known who she was or what this movie was. After recently watching the film today I was moved by the brilliant performance Miss Cotillard had done. This has not only gone down to be one of my favorite movies, it has become a place in my heart for both Marion Cotillard and Edith Piaf
@kakalengler , I agree. Its one of those performances you'd have to be blind, deaf, dumb and prejudice not to think deserved every award it was given.
Yes, specially he was very loyal to the feeling of La Möme Piaf towards "the butcher from Morocco" Marcel Cerdán ,as she writes in her biographie Ma Vie, that the champion was the most sensitive man, a great person for his loyalty to friends, too generous and full of love as anybody, even as he never was herself.
Marcel died of a plane crash correct ??? i think it's a good way to go,he didn't suffer long. But the last to go suffered the most,Edith was madly in love with him and she was the last to go ;)))
Indeed he is!!! I let my mother borrow this film and after saying how amazing Marion Cotillard was she asked about HIM!!! What a movie...she was phenomenal!
wtf this video has to do with the song la vie en rose

When Marion Cotillard won, I had not known who she was or what this movie was. After recently watching the film today I was moved by the brilliant performance Miss Cotillard had done. This has not only gone down to be one of my favorite movies, it has become a place in my heart for both Marion Cotillard and Edith Piaf

@kakalengler , I agree. Its one of those performances you'd have to be blind, deaf, dumb and prejudice not to think deserved every award it was given.

@kakalengler I call those people the film-ignorants of Hollywood lol.

Not the greatest film in my opinion, but Marion set that screen on fire. What a transformation...
