  • it drives me mad the slagging lorries and there drivers get , i d a cyclist hanging onto back of my trailer and if i d not seen him and he got hurt i d have being in the shit while nothing said to fella on the bike

  • so your telling me that drives who spend years gaining experiance in all kinds of situation and are the most trained and tested drivers on the road are at fault ? sure its not the person on a 2 wheeled tin can with no road training at all and who has no idear about rules of the road ? go fuck ya selfs ps when you pay road tax and insurence on your bike then you can have a say about what happens on the road muvvvvvvva fuuuucker *middle finger up*

  • Dont take the piss its hard enough for lorry drivers to deliver all the good everyone need and cant live with out. any one that things that we dont need lorrys on our road are not thinking about the affect it will have on all of us. So y dont you make the roads a bit safer and teach all that use our roads understand how we roll. Sort it out or loss a lot of good drivers and the new law cpc for lorry drivers are to make sure we are safe and suitable to driver on today roads.

  • Water falls out of the sky. Or, comes from fresh springs, so you have no exscuse not to use a drop or two and clean up a little. Live in a cave, you look as if you already do. You are a disgusting mess, and you're not a very good performer. You just post silly messages to wind people up because you have no friends, you need to grow up!

TheSlapdown 6 hours ago. go on then teddy bear give us a song. now where did we say the water comes from in the fresh water springs? suprise me again PECKHAM!!

  • @19tig60I thought you weren't bothered anymore?! LOL.

  • The only thing that can be done is to situate distribution hubs on the edges of town and then bring the goods in on smaller vehicles. However, that increases costs and prices will go up. The first to complain will be the public, many oh who will be cyclists. Motorists and other road users need to be educated and lorries, and cyclists definitely should need to pass a formal test, prior to being let loose on the roads. Compulsory insurance would be good too.

  • @WheelieMacBin "The only thing that can be done is to situate distribution hubs on the edges of town and then bring the goods in on smaller vehicles.".....................Then we will have Cities full of white van man, and we all know what they're like!

  • @TheSlapdown approx 34 transit vans to replace one articulated truck who pays for the drivers?

  • @spinaway We do when we go shopping. Unless we all go back to living in caves. let's not forget, some loads will NEVER fit in a van.....But some people love to complain before they go shopping.

  • @TheSlapdown How could you pay 34 drivers to do the work of one, we wouldnt be able to afford to go shopping.

  • @spinaway And that was my point! I think you maybe confused, i am dead set against moving cargo into smaller veichles. It's illogical!

  • @TheSlapdown sorry i thought you were against Trucks, ive been driving an artic for 32 years without a single accident, people would soon change there minds about trucks with 3400 transit vans for every 1000 trucks, average truck driver earns £24000 per year, x 1000 = £2.4000000, transit van driver not sure say £13000 x3400 = £4.4200000 theres a bit of a difference.

  • the advice to cycleists is--- dont try to undertake a lorry turning left!!! stupid cyclists do it all the time to me in my 48 tonne wagon-- cycleists shound have to pass a bassic test and have insurance if they want to be on the road in my opinoin

  • I'm not a lorry driver (I'm a motorcyclist) but I have the utmost respect for them. They are always courteous in traffic and very aware when I am filtering. Do yourselves a favour and think for a second - make yourself known to the driver and avoid a problem. Help them, help yourself - everyone stays safe.

  • what these dumbass anti lorry brigade seem to forget is that lorries supply demand, they dont create it,we are only in their stupid precious little quaint towns n villages because we have to be,no for the sheer fun of it.

In any case its always the lorry at fault to these types and sometimes it is,i spend more time dodging other road users and reading what stupid stuff they are about to do.

Educating these bloody cyclists would help, they must be in front, cant wait a second or so.

  • I still award myself 3 points for every bi-cyclist I hit and it's not just urban areas!!! Go and drive on a dual carriageway and see them bunched up about 5 or 6 across the carriageway, give them a warning that you're behind them with the horn and they ignore you so no wonder there are many injured cyclists......

  • LKW

    Friends on the road

This one trailer can be seen in Macedonija..

    Good One

  • @alfie09ify exactly

  • @alfie09ify exactley

  • I think there should be something to make public aware of trucks on the road like all the signs for bikes 'Think Bike' (which btw should read Bikes Think Other Road Users but thats a another story)...I am getting pissed of with doing the thinking for about 50% of the drivers i see every day..

  • So what would people rather have 1 lorry in there town center or 30 vans per one lorry that would have delivered the goods??

  • They should make all cyclists and other road users do some sort of hgv awareness course b4 their allowed on the roads. Why do other road users just assume we can always see them and if we are involved in a accident we are the first to get the blame.

  • No wonder he goes around squashing cyclists, he's got a fucked windcreen wiper blade ! . . .

  • unlicensed untested unqualified unregulated non road tax paying cyclists are the problem because they get themselves hurt doesn't make them exempt from blame ...........

  • @BOFFERER grow up you cunt

  • its always us that get the shit abuse and people slaggin us off then they pop in tesco do the shoppin that we deliverd two faced cunt.s

  • oh yes... ban the lorries.. lol what an idiots.. the cyclist should watch out for the lorrie not the lorrie for the cyclist...

  • put it this way there are more car crashes than anything thats got a bloody engine in it lorry drivers are the best drivers on the road its the bloody car drivers that give everybody a bad name i,m a cyclist and i tell you the amount of trucks that have passed me and they took good care in passing me they only overtake me if there is enough room or they wait behind me car drivers which have sped past me at £80 mph and some don,t even pass me with care some nearly knock me arm off with the mirror

  • It pissis me of watching things like this it's not the truck drivers they should worry about it's the other shit drivers out there that shouldn't even be driving the ones that can't even park the car (women) all these adverts saying watch out for bikes if they stop riding like fucking wankers then maybe people will see them it's there own fault they need to teach all road users to be aware of big lorries and explain how much room they need instead of them hating us and wanting to get in front i

  • @adamcooke3 its fcuking obvious if we are bigger than you .use your brain ?? give us room and dont cut us up .not many of you would be willing to be away from home 4or5nights at a time .in a cab ,you never complian wen you buy the goods we delivered ???? morans

  • what a spaz that copper is there is no problem with trucks or truck drivers the problem is the behaviour of other motorists around larger HGV's ( they shit there kegs & dont know what the fuck to do) a better education of drivers of cars & other veichles as well as bikes (motor & push) is required

  • what about a bus they are equally as big and have the same blind spots, it cyclist that need to bugger off, they pay no road tax they have no respect hgv drivers pay the most road tax, have the most skill and have to be 21 to pass the test.

  • Get cyclists off the roads, and off the bloody pavements as well.

Cyclists can see a bloody great truck, but truck drivers can't always see a fuckwit riding up their inside blindspot!

  • who ever made this wants a good slap, if all HGV's was banned from places like towns and villages everyone would be screwed! silly twats

  • I'm a cyclist and a motorist. Use common sense whatever vehicle you're using and you will almost always be ok. I can't understand why any cyclist would go inside of an HGV at a junction. It'd so obviously risky and it doesn't respect the HGV driver either...

    The video isn't bad. :-)

  • Some one did some math the other month and published it into truck and driver, if you took every single HGV from the road and replaced it with a van you would be puttin on the road another 21 million vehicles but also you wouldnt be getting the essentials like building works and other things it wouldnt matter anyway you wouldnt be going any where

  • teach cyclists to ride safe on roads jump red lights dont pay road tax lorries have to go in to towns to get our food to shops fuck wit lorries not dangerous these cops are CUNT'S lets get rid of 44 ton lorries have millions of white van man ????????

  • teach cyclists to ride safe on roads jump red lights dont pay road tax lorries have to go in to towns to get our food to shops fuck wit

  • i know, why not tranship one 44 ton trucks load into 30 transit vans, much more environmentally freindly. or, cyclists could STOP OVERTAKING ON THE INSIDE!!!!!! or carry on, and let natural selection get rid of those too stupid or slow. trucks arent dangerous, people around them are.

  • ... ah yes, its you that has a string of motoring vids here isnt it, the guy with the problem with anything that has an engine and not a set of pedals.

  • ... and also, those lines that mark out the blindspots as to what a driver can see, try turning the cab like at 7.25 and mark them out again, simply put, i'll see you behind me before i turn, but then chances are i wont as i turn as the mirrors dont allow me total vision when the cab is turning, AT THAT POINT NEVER, NEVER UNDERTAKE, I see alot of bikes when im driving, some just will never get it till its too late, and they know what they are risking too, AND THAT IS NOT THE FAULT OF THE DRIVER

  • ... also just to note, you may see large supermarket chain trucks with the sticker on the passenger door now " YOU ARE IN MY BLINDSPOT - MOVE ", to the point yes, but if you read it one day, act on it, its your life potentially at risk. Also, "lorries arent dangerous" in the way your suggesting by your tone, if you give them space and are patient chances are you'll be fine, if you dont, your the next statistic, harsh but true.

  • ... and next time you get chance, hop in a LARGE truck and look in the mirrors, and note EXACTLY what the driver can see, from 1.25 onwards - LISTEN, the truck makes the manouvre and the bike goes up the inside, its on film and this guys view on the most common bike accident, YOU riding into the blindspot.

  • simply put, if your in doubt in a car or on a bike, be patient, let the truck manouvre un-hindered, dont argue with it or think you can "nip" past and the chap has seen me, give us massive space, and MAKE SURE I CAN SEE YOU, its why alot of trucks have these stickers on the back left side.

  • Just dont ride up the side of it, simple, ANY traffic argueing with trucks are risking massive consequences, chances are your not seen, and at huge risk, the biggest tips i can give you for YOUR OWN safety - stay back, dont undertake or come up the passenger side of me on a bike as vision is / can be extremely difficult, and whether in a car or on a bike etc DO NOT SIT NEXT TO MY PASSENGER DOOR if im moving or not, the chances are i 100% CANNOT see you, this is what this officer is explaining.

  • There is no problem with lorries. It is the supid people that dont understand the logic of long trucks. I just think there should be less morons on the road then it would be fine.

  • And if pricks on cycles didn't undertake lorries they wouldn't get in that mess

  • Without trucks you would eat your own shit, drink your own urine and walk around naked. Just to mention the basic things.

  • How many people a year get pissed off with cyclists? Compare that to the number of people who get annoyed with lorries. Cyclists are franckly a lot more annoying!!

  • try a train

  • BUILD FUCKING BIGGER CITIES AND YOU WILL BE FINE STUPIDOS

  • bicycles should fuck off

  • If you don't like trucks, or drivers, don't shop anywhere. Don't dress, don't wash. Live in a cave and grow your own food, drink water that fell from the sky.

    Enough said!

  • @TheSlapdown Couldn't have put it better myself!

  • @TheSlapdown one of the best comments here without trucks we get nothing

  • @TheSlapdown Where do you get your water from?

  • @19tig60 Where do you think?

  • @TheSlapdown suprise me

  • @19tig60 I'm too busy being suprised by you. You know what I meant so stop being so childish looking for an argument!

  • @TheSlapdown im sorry you think like that but your initial comment "drink water that fell from the sky" was kind of "childish". and how am i looking for an argument? everyone knows that it comes from a supermarket in bottles.

  • @19tig60 So why ask? If you're a truck hater follow my suggestion and move to a cave. If you agree with me why ask where I get my water from, if you're being sarcastic, grow up!

  • @TheSlapdown if you want me to run you through the water cycle (excuse the punn) then i will, but if you beleive that water comes from supermarkets then thats fine. of course we could go down the track about the chicken and the egg but thats another story. oh happy trucking and dont forget that cyclist down there on the left.

  • @19tig60 You said it comes from supermarkets yourself! Not me. I wonder how it gets there? The computer you're using right now, how was it delivered? Where do carrots come from? And so on.........

  • @TheSlapdown cant be bothered any more. and any way i got to go and read about dear liza.

  • @19tig60 LOL, that's because you were acting all clever, big and tough and got nowhere!

  • @19tig60 You idiot. You know what he meant, he made a valid comment. You made a fool out of yourself.

  • @TheSlapdown

Or cut the number of road destroying massively inneficient noisy slow moving trucks by urging the gov't to invest in the rail infrastructure.

Dont worry, there will still be trucks on the roads doing their thing just not as many long journeys on our little island.

  • @PopulationcontrolNow slow moving? if youve got a complent about the 40mph speed limit for hgvs, go to the goverment and please get the speed limit changed!! the only inneficient lorrys on the road are the likes of stobarts who never carry more than 15 ton instead of 30 ton/44 ton gvw

  • its about time cyclists learn what a red traffic light means because most of them here just keep going when the lights are red and weave in and out of traffic

  • @mawoods34 And if they get hit it's never their fault.

  • Stop hating lorries. if we had smaller lorries then there would have to be more of them, which would mean more traffic, which wont help anyone.

  • That poor Coca Cola Can 6:13 :(

  • Cyclists are a road hazard and when they're inevitably hit and killed it should be no one's fault but their own. If you expect us to "share the road" you better start acting like you know the rules, and pay for the right to be there.

  • @TheLexx616 Yeah, but many car drivers choose to ignore the rules too. Just stand at your nearest set of lights and watch all the "it's only just changed to red, I'll just floor it and keep going" brigade.

I'm a cyclist, a car driver and a class 1 LGV driver and I can tell you that the most selfish and ignorant group of road users and car drivers, no contest.

  • what a crock of shit !! i think you dislike trucks or some kind of vendetta against them its other people .....cock, yes there are some bad truck drivers and some good just like there are bent coppers and a few straight coppers but not many cos there all cocks

and vosa and plastic police..... cocks cocks cocks

  • its not so much trucks ITS OTHER PEOPLE who dont know how to drive around them

  • this shows how dangerous these lorries are...

oooh scary... well here's news for you... don't get too close or try and go down silly small gaps when they're turning!!

  • Without lorrys u get nothing

  • 44 ton is the weight of the truck or charged?

  • what the fuck does marg cooper know about driving trucks, she sit in her pc office drink pc cups of tea without a clue in the world. Cycling pious turd

  • the fuck is a lorry?? :/

  • just a point, why do you have problems with trucks, without them you wouldnt be able to do any shopping, how does food get to shops, half of the trucks in the video are not even 44 ton and the bit about side protection was filmed before the regulation came in, if it was filmedafter wich is highly unlikely the trailer wouldnt have passed an mot so why not blame the dick head cyclists who all know the danger and leave us HGV/PCV drivers well alone?

  • Great point you make, just a little story on an incident my dad was involved in, he was stoped at traffic lights for a crossing as he set off a female taxi driver swong her door open into the side of the truck, the door hit the tail-lift runner and the door got smashed in, anyway it ended up going to court, when my dad walked into the court he was told by the usher "this judge dosnt like truck drivers"... what is that all about, i wish people would get a grip and stop living in little britan

  • simple, kill the judge.

  • fucking load of bollocks this vid.

  • Instead of blaming lorry drivers, why not educate other road users on how to behave when they are around lorrys? HGV drivers are probably the most qualified and experienced drivers on the road. Come out for a day in a 50+ft artic in a busy town centre and you will see how much skill an concentration it needs.

  • @mickeybfc You are correct in what you say, If like everything else in life, children was educate in their school years, and I'm not talking about an half hour video in class, but bringing in to the class room education about road and traffic laws, this would instill its self deep in to the brain, In Australia they educate their young on 1st aid from about 6yrs, and i have seen news paper reports where young people have saved lifes due to that same education. educate both drivers & pedestrains

  • @mickeybfc here here a better education of drivers would be better then blaming trucks

  • @mickeybfc Absolutely. I'm a lorry driver and from my point of view. If you pull up to a junction with a cyclist infront of u and u don't see it, completely the drivers fault. But if you have stopped at stop lights, for example, with your left hand indicator on and a cyclist come up your near side, hasn't he just broke the law by overtaking on the near side? At some point the cyclist has to take some responsibility for their actions by putting themselfs in a blatantly bad situation

  • @eggfromsywell had this situation, once i had cleared my name in the courts by proving i couldnt see the cyclist up my near side i counter sued and got £6,500 for stress and loss of earnings, so i know it sounds harsh but avoid them if they come up the NS down to them like ive said to many 44t rolling over you and i aint going to feel it.

  • @mickeybfc Well said m8, its the bloody idiots in cars and on bikes that make the roads dangerous for us professional drivers and i can also say that the car test is so easy to pass compared to the hgv C+E test.

Its the others who need educating

  • the problem we have here is the more mirrors you put on a truck the more blind spots you get. it is said that the driver cannot see the cyclist in the blind spot but 100% of cyclists can see the truck. if the cyclist waited a few seconds for the truck to manouver there would be no problems. i have tried to reverse into places and cars and bikes go around the back and front, we cannot look in 5 mirrors and three windows at the same time. a bit of patience will save your life.

  • .All other road users need to understand that without trucks The UK can not deliver so they need to be careful when trucks are around. Re-open the railways to eases the pressure

  • im watching this video and its making me laugh at how they go on cyclist and pedestrians dont realise where the trucks blindspots are well its only common sense that you stay out of the BLOODY WAY!!! its a 44 tonne vehicle! use your eyes and brains! its not the trucks fault they cant see them sometimes its their fault if they get in the way!

  • Re-open the cannals and take some of the lorries of the road, also make it a bit easier for the driver to see by lowering the window on the passenger side door putting an extra window in the door - like they use to 40 years ago?!

  • you spunk bubble

  • Ahh thanks :-)

  • heres a better idea, pay trucker and extra £5 a head for each bicyclist they can run over, £2 bonus if they get them paper thin

  • Don't know if anyone else noticed, but the 'LEDERER' DAF that they keep refering to, only has a gross weight of 40 tonnes due to runnign on only 5 axles. Although the government (VOSA) keep on about the dangers of overloading, the have actually contravened these comments by (according to them at 4:10) placing a cyclist and pedestrians alongside a 44 tonne lorry that is actually limited to 40 tonnes due the aforementioned reason.

  • So all you need to do is educate the lycra nazi's how to ride a bike, job done!!!

  • dont be tight on truckers without them you probably wouldnt of even been able to make this video becuase it wont of been delivered in the shop and or youi would of had to walk becuase the car wouldnt of been delivered either so think about the the next time you critisize them

  • Well if you want lorries banned from towns & citys say good bye to your FOOD, CLOTHING, TAKE-AWAYS, NEW CARS, NEW BUILDING because it's trucks that deliver them

  • Ok we'll keep our lorries out of towns and see how you like not being able to buy petrol, or milk, or fags, or food, or anything in fact!

  • The cyclist knows they should wait, but they're impatient and know you'll be in the shit if you run 'em over.

I guess you try your best to avoid them, but inevitably cyclists get mashed by not following the rules of the road.

There is no requirement for cyclists to learn anything, pass anything or lose anything (except their life) so some ride badly.

Lesson to cyclists and drivers in general, if you can see the mirrors the driver can't see you, pretty basic don't you think ?

  • What a load of self opinionated tosh. I wouldnt be suprised if you are a member of several local "action groups", wear a beard, drink real ale and wear slippers with a zip up the middle. You clearly do not live in the real world - get real for once in your life.

  • TEACH CYCLISTS TO USE COMMON SENSE ! we have SIX mirrors on our truck and trained to watch out for cyclists and people walking ,when i reverse we use a banks man ,flashing amber beacon,s front rear and sides and a beeper! Still cyclists shoot between the truck and the banks man!!! if asked to wait we get told to f off etc. So don,t tar us all with the same brush !

  • In my country we have many accidents as the vid is about.

Their are all kind new technologies to stop this situations,

as them we see in the vid. Germans have find a sensor who spinning with lot of RMP`s and send a messages alarm the the driver and he stops in the same second. If their came a person in the blind spot. But the owners are not prepared to use many moneys in this equipment, who are on the marked-et !

  • This video makes the lorry driver look like the bad guy. But at the end of the day, goods need to be delivered.

If all the lorry drivers in this country parked up for 1 week, this country would grind to a halt.

  • why the headline 44tonne lorrys, I was hauling into europe in the early 80s and never ran below 40 tons back then,

singl steer single drive twin trailor, guess what, never ran over anybody.

yes the roads ar more populated nowadays but it is a simple rule, if a car or cyclist cant see a vehicle of 44 tonnes and act saftly around these vehicles that is their problem.

  • hobby boys?!?! my dads been fucking driving trucks for 28 years, ive been going with him since i before i could even walk so if you think im a hobby boy your on drugs!!

  • what a load of bollocks, fing cyclists dont pay tax/insurance/or mot the bikes, if wasnt for the likes of these trucks you assholes would have nothing! not even a pot to piss in, left indicator flashing cyclist ignores it then fuck him hes done his own death

  • in 90% of all accidents with trucks turning left the driver did not see the bike etc in his mirrors due to blind spots but in the same accidents 100% of bikes etc saw the truck. need i say more, if an artic has his left hand flashers on he is turning left, just seems the easy way out to blame the driver.

  • What a ridiculous video. it's making lorries look bad. whats the deal with all the depressing effects and that can being crushed. Just a bunch of miserable people who dont know what they're talking about.

  • why do they always blame the truck drivers? most of the times it's the cyclists fault, cuz they stand next to the truck.

you should always stay behind the truck and my sure the driver sees you.

    this is the golden rule:

if you can see the drivers face in the mirror or directly, the he can see you.

  • nice video about 44 tonne trucks. the ones in the video (apart from the last few on the motorway clip) where 38 tonnes rated vehicles. if you want to put a video together to point out how bad 44 tonne rated trucks are at least use one !

as a HGV 1 driver i would love not to go to little towns. but then you want to eat. you have got a choice let me park outside the town unload me and put my load on 16 transit vans! and drive them to your local store 10 loads a day equals 160 transit vans!

  • By all means ban trucks from town centres, you think we enjoy threading something that size down a road which is unsuitable? Cyclists need to take extreme care around HGVs, as the film illustrates a lot of the time the driver is simply unable to see you

  • may be you should get all your food delivered on cycles retard

  • cyclist need to observe when trucks are turning they need room to manouver...

WITHOUT TRUCKS YOU GET NOTHING.... YOU BOUGHT IT A TRUCK BROUGHT IT......

  • I just passed my HGV mate. But when i am on a bike when i see a truck moving left i back away. Most cyclists are crap riders.

  • i got it all truckdrivers go on strike... then every1 will panic buy and think they will all die...................... 99.8% of the time it is the layout of the town... pedestrians and idiots car drivers who park in unloading bays....

  • lorry ban, lorry ban, 7.5 ton weight limit, no hgvs,...........go fetch your own stuff then ! you will soon be moaning when theres nothing left in the shops ! driving a truck in the uk is shite !

  • I couldn't have put it better myself. Bravo man!

  • Their trucks are heavier than American trucks.

  • all well and good showing the blind spots, once the lorry starts a turn the driver is completley blind down the kerb side.not only that the driver has 99 other things to check/do to negotiate the turn. the message is simple to drivers and cyclists....DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PASS A LORRY ON THE INSIDE WHEN IT IS TURNING LEFT!

  • I know mate no other road user would dare to cut up truck turning left so why should a cyclist try it? I just passed my HGV so i have yet to encounter this problem. Now that i have had a go at these big trucks i now fully under stand how much skill is involved in driving the trucks. Respect to you mate. And i hope to get a driving job on the trucks.

  • SO, this is a problem which the manufacturer's of Artics should address and consequently come up with a simple solution? Simply add a exterior camera which connects to a monitor inside the drivers cab - simple really!

  • That won't stop cyclists who don't understand from going up the left though, will it?

I blame cycle lanes in part, for making riders stay in the gutter and to move up when they think there's room. Better to ride wide and stay alive, but the road markings don't encourage that.

  • yes probably not..so its up to the cyclists then to be more aware and alert and the authorities to spend more on road markings! Can't blame the lorry drivers!

  • Well you can't really. If someone jumped in front of your car, would it be your fault?

So if someone cycles under your truck, is it your fault?

Although there is a lot of bad HGV driving, a lot of the criticism is unfair as the 'victims' are often self-selecting.

The problem is, how do you distinguish between a truck driver who overtakes a cyclist then turns left before he's clear, from an innocent one who checked his mirrors, then someone cycled alongside?

    Two very different situations.

  • @EdinburghFixed: I agree with you that cycle lanes can often make cyclists complacent, and encourage them to not plan ahead/go up the left when they shouldn't, etc.

However, you seem very keen to push the statistic that "90% of cyclists also have a driving licence". Can you offer any reliable source of evidence for this? I'll accept it if so, but it seems very unlikely to me. Many people never get a car if they live in bike-friendly areas...

  • It's from the DfT but it's not measuring car ownership, just licence holding (of course, if you take into account kids etc the figure will be way off! But I don't think they are being squashed by HGVs on their way to work :-)

Most people do their test at school, or as students. If we moved to London we'd probably sell the cars, and hire instead. But for the purposes of 'having road sense' we've both done years of car driving besides our riding.

    Hopefully that makes sense :)

  • fuck! we all pay our road tax to use the roads! if they want to go on the roads, make them take a test and fucking pay or get on the pavement! we all got fucking jobs to do!

  • its all in the highway code....why is there not a test for cyclists????

  • agreed, ive just had to have a medical, theory and practical test for my 7.5 tonne lorry license and trailer... and cyclists causing most of the problems have to do none of these.

  • Apart from the 90% of cyclists that have a driving licence... or do you think that everybody who gets a bike, sells their car and burns their licence?

  • this must be an old vid sure side protection on tralier is always present these day. secondly that woman said if your a cyclist or pedestrian you wouldn't know that a lorry needs that space... well shouldn't they know? to drive a lorry on the road you need training so why not for cyclist seen as they're the ones getting killed!!!!!!

  • I like driving my 44 tonner in towns, its exciting knowing it will be a challenge. London is fun as there is traffic everywhere.

  • also I fined it a help if I sit higher up. I can then see more.

  • Im sick of cyclists of trying to get down my inside even if there is a 1 inch gap. Just wait or use the fucking path!

  • What a load of crap "cars and cyclists are not going to be aware that a turning truck cuts in"

If you do not realise this you should not be on the road. Why dont they teach people how to drive around trucks when they get there license

There are only going to be more of them on the road in the future.

  • One solution to the fuckin problem make roads truck friendly i am sick of people moaning and saying when cyclists get knocked down due to their stupidity and driver gets license taken away and possibly put in prison for someone elses supidity but why should lorry drivers be banned for doing their job yet cyclists arent doing any job

  • yop,i pull b doubles around town and sometimes cyclist just pop out suddenly out of i dont know where...we only rely on our mirrors to see around us and if we dont see u in the mirrors, we dont assume u r there. 1 more thing, when we are turning, do not squeeze into our turning radius though it may seem like a huge space,it becomes much smaller during the turn and then disappears.

  • Well the cop sums it up. BE AWARE of blind spots and dont put yourself there OK. The modern 24/7 society of i want everything now is why so many trucks on road as much fr8 has to be direct delivered....

  • As consumers want more and more packaged crap (most of it coming from abroad), and as the population itself is getting bigger so demand for logistics will dramaticall increase.

As a keen cyclist and truck driver, i can tell you that i have the understanding that Trucks dont have 'magic-all-around-vision'. If you are not in the truck drivers mirror, you dont exist!

  • God its like pulling teeth, blame the lorry driver, who has half a ton of metal around him/her, and only about 75% vision, But don't educate the cyclist who can see and hear more around them, I was educate about road safety at school, but now that has been stopped so that little tommy can learn bagladesh. the goverment has made arod for it's own back, and now wishes to blame someone else. Educate kids at school age about road safety and the dangers of HGV's blind spots. EDUCATION IS POWER!!

  • what a load of bull! Please, ban me from the towns! I'd love it, save me a lot of hassel from arogant bike and car drivers! But u'd come unstuck if u wanted goods delivering to Sainsburys and Tesco's!

  • i used to be a truck driver and i wish when i was driving somone had baned trucks from towns believe me i would have jumped for joy

  • Excuse me,but consumer markets and demand for goods every day requires the delivery of these goods into congested areas. It is the supply side of the market that we as drivers have a job for.The demand side is the consumer who is "inconvenienced" by us attempting to deliver your "crap". So before you complain about HGV's or Trucks and truckers, remember, everything you eat, wear, and consume in any form was brought to you by us, the "inconvenient"truckers.

  • well the trailers show that dont have side bars were mostly carrying containers, alot of the skellys are old and were built long before they introduced that recomendation but they are not that safe if you collided with me at 70mph and i was doing 56mph my T Bar at the back of my trailer would be on your lap! and ive been involved in an accident exactly like it but it killed the guy.

  • I drive HGV 1 ie the 44 tonne artics, i have driven into the centre of london in day time its stupid we would as lorry drivers benefit to go in at night theres less traffic less padestrians less cyclists so it works for everyone, unfortunatly if we didnt have lorries then no one would get fed or have anything on store shelves.

  • VolvoFH12580: Nice comments - thank you! Indeed it seems perverse that lorries are often banned from entering urban areas at night when it may be safer and easier to do so.

  • In all my work i rarely enture built up areas im pounding the motorways mainly, but another thing is not matter how much side protection you have on the side of a trailer if i knock a cyclist off even if theres only one inch between skirt and ground i will still run over him, theres enough power in my unit to run over a car easily, a human is no problem.

  • I've not had to do this with a lorry in 34 years cycling but it's helpful to have a smooth panel on a lorry side (like a bus) to push off if in a tight squeeze to avoid tangling with wheels etc. Unfortunately many trucks have all kinds of straps, hooks, open spaces, bars and projections on the side and I often hear stories about cyclists being caught and dragged along. Some designs are better than others.

  • Yes i agree most of the trailers i pull are low loaders and some are rear steers, i do on occasion pull the standard trailers, but you have to take into cost of putting even fibreglass side skirts on the trailer it all costs and its something a company doesnt want to do.

  • You cant make them to low either because on some time if your coming off a ship or even an access ramp the trailer bars and ground do meet ive had one occasion where ive buckled the side bars because of it, its not the good cyclist that gets hurt its the ones who dont understand or are in a hurry, there are signs on the back of mine a no entry on the left and a arrow on the right, is it really that hard for people to follow? unfortunatly so.

  • VolvoFH12580

Mostly I suspect that it's ignorance. Most LGVs that I have seen do not carry the sign you are referring to. I have seen 'no entry on the left' signs with a bicycle symbol, but only very infrequently.

What are the requirements to carry this sign?
