  • aha thats my great grandpa catch me on facebook garycooley38@yahoo.com

  • Things are now looking up.

  • Nice soundie! Anyone know who the lead guitar guy is? He plays some nice harmony and fills with Joquin Murphy at about 1:10.

    Swang on,

  • "Soundies" were videos or film clips where different bands or musical groups played popular tunes of the day. These machines could be found in bars or taverns like jukeboxes and offered selections for a quarter. Tex Williams who could be seen at the right of the girl vocalist also had his own band. He made soundies as well as some musical western shorts for Universal.

  • Your aunt is a living doll! Great pipes, too

  • Very cool. And, it was nice jamming with you on Tuesday!

Thanks for turning me on to this.

  • @FaustoBozza

  • really cool and shes a great singer,

  • Spade Cooley was tops...no matter what. Love how Tex Williams takes a backseat for the chirp. Tex is the guy standing to the left of the bass player. Used to him on vocals for this number. Thanks for putting this gem out there.

  • It's actually her eyebrow that is doing the singing.

  • Once again the incomparable Joaquin Murphey on lap steel

  • I love the song and the girl. Gotta love her left eyebrow, the way she makes it go up and down. She makes me go up. Nice song

  • Spade was my cousin.

  • Not up to me to judge the man. GREAT musician, and an incredible entertainer!

  • Yeah don't forget the sidemen who had nothing to do with that horrible murder. I think of them and the great music and good times people had dancing to them, not of Spade Cooley himself. He's not the whole story.

  • "A terrible tragedy from another time about which they know nothing"? The gruesome facts concerning this atrocity are a matter of public record; the trial was a huge deal at the time, with all particulars of the case reported on in detail by all contemporary media outlets. Read up on it and you'll have a hard time forgetting it. The music's grand, and I love these old "soundies",but as with Michael Jackson it's tough to forgive unspeakable acts committed by a beloved deceased entertainer. Sorry...

  • you aunt is great!!

  • Spade Cooley is really great. I like his work. Too bad some people desire to make negative comments re: a terrible tragedy from another time about which they know nothing.

Some people excuse the worst in their compatriots but will mercilessly jump on anyone else.

Spade Cooley was a great musician there's no doubt about it.

  • @MichailZacho ..to MichailZacho - I agree with You. Celebrities are not much different than ordinary people. It's just that they are scrutinized a lot more. Every day on the news, I usually here of some senseless tragedy that never should have happened. Very emotionable us human beings.

I also am supportive of this man who gave us so much Great Music. His family tragedy notwithstanding, He was a Great Musician.

  • @MichailZacho yeah he is but just because he's a great musician doesn't mean he's a great guy..he did kill his wife infront of his kid. That's sick.

Just because a person is famous doesnt mean they should get excuses for them...

  • @MichailZacho he kinda mercilessly jumped on his wife

  • They called Spade the "footstompin' king of western swing",and he went to prison for stomping his wife to death with his cowboy boots,in front of their teenage daughter,no less. Shame on him,indeed...

  • cut yyour penus off

  • Smokey is rhythm guitarist. Johnny Wise must be on lead guitar

  • Joaquin Murphey on steel

  • the guitar player is Smokey Rogers.

  • That looks like a young Joe Maphis on lead guitar

  • Thanks for posting this. It's great to see some Western Swing.
