Andrei, if u like the nuances, then you probably don't think they are "excessive!" :) There are a ton of little things he does that could be called "mannered," but to me, they actually sound very honest. :)
"Free of excessive nuances"? Oh my, you must have listened to a different recording... This is a very mannered and idosyncratic performance with much fluctuation in rhythmn and dynamics, which is why I LOVE IT! Zak uses these techniques to milk this piece for all its worth! Astounding virtuosity informed by a deep emotional and intellectual reading. Bravo.
I find all of Zak's performances to be clean and free of excessive nuances. There is no excess of pedal and no frills. It is a pleasure to listen to his interpretations. Yes, they are sometimes different. But they are always reasonable and musically defensible.
The first movement is the best I've heard. Most play it too fast. Also, his singing tone in the melody is just fantastic. The others are great too, but I prefer more pedal in some of them.
Lovely playing. The piano needs tuning.

He plays the "Catch me if you can" part really fast! I like it, though.

Not really digging the out of tune piano.

Very nicely played. It's a pity that such an enormous pianist didn't get more international aknowledge.
