UV radiation causes cancer. its the same radiation that the sun emits that causes you to get sun burns. fluorescent bulb will only cause cancer if you us indoor tanning salons too often. they will not cause cancer if you use it at home for lighting as the amount of UV radiation is extremely low and would only be dangerous if you place it inches from your skin for prolong periods of time.
where is the $50 a bulb comes from? fluorescent light bulbs are comparable in price to incandescent ones and they last much much longer and use less energy it really is a much better product.

I like the CFL bulbs. If you can't find them cheaper than 50 bucks try amazon. I got some really strong ones for like 10 bucks at wal-mart. Output twice as much light as my old bulbs with less than half the energy consumption.

Forgive me if I am mistaken but even when these bulbs are installed, The same amount of power gets sent to each phase within a household. In other words to truly "save" costs wouldn't people have to upgrade the psu's. Ballasts and wiring aswell. I have a bunch of the CFL bulbs around the house. They've been there for a little over 2 years now, saving us money with their lower wattage. I got them for like 5 bucks for a 4 pack at home depot. With the 9 year warranty on them, and the fact that home depot will recycle them for free... I'm not getting what the argument is? Is it just that the government said you can't have something so you're angry... or is it really about light bulbs?

The $50 light bulb is newer than the CFL monstrosity (which you are 100% right about, btw). The $50 bulb is an LED bulb with enough LEDs to make it as bright as a 100w incandescent. Supposedly.
This is after they've figured out the the CFL bulbs are harmful to your head due to radiation (?) when they are on. And the mercury, and all the other nonsense about them.
The good news is that LEDs last 10,000 hours, which means you'll only buy one for each lamp. They are more efficient, also.

I like the CFL bulbs. If you can't find them cheaper than 50 bucks try amazon. I got some really strong ones for like 10 bucks at wal-mart. Output twice as much light as my old bulbs with less than half the energy consumption.

Another great video bob. I am curious about these so called world saving bulbs. Forgive me if I am mistaken but even when these bulbs are installed, The same amount of power gets sent to each phase within a household. In other words to truly "save" costs wouldn't people have to upgrade the psu's. Ballasts and wiring aswell. Who is actually saving money - the manufacturers are - had anybody done an actual survey of the old bulbs vs the new ones over a years costs? Good vid Bob.

I have a bunch of the CFL bulbs around the house. They've been there for a little over 2 years now, saving us money with their lower wattage. I got them for like 5 bucks for a 4 pack at home depot. With the 9 year warranty on them, and the fact that home depot will recycle them for free... I'm not getting what the argument is? Is it just that the government said you can't have something so you're angry... or is it really about light bulbs?

I was pissed at first when congress passed that law and GW signed it because I thought it was gonna do a bunch of damage but honestly I still can get plenty of incandescent for under $1 and the most expensive CFL I sell is $6.99. I'm not a leftist either. I'm a common sense libertarian. In the real world this isn't an issue.

Everyone believes the liberal green movement and is running scared for no fucking reason other than the govt is telling them to do so. Incandescent bulbs are proven and quart halogen bulbs are even better. LED bulbs don't cut it unless you put 1K of them in a cluster. WTF? Buy and hoard the good stuff - I will the rest of this year. I want 120w spotlights and 150w standard bulbs. 3 way bulbs are a must for me.

CLEARLY not true. I could use perhaps 20 LED's at a fraction of the cost, with no heat (I want the heat) to light areas I need to get at. I could use mirrors & light colored paper / walls to reflect the light to soften it. OR I could use incandescents to get nicer light & the heat I want from it. 60w to 100w is fine, single-bulb for a single room (not a living room). A large room can use more light, depending

Solar flares throw off massive radiation and it affects the weather. The storms in the midwest were forecasted last year. So if you're a country that consumes 25% of the world's available oil, couldn't drill enough to meet its own demand, and saw increasing energy costs over the last 10 years due to emerging markets in China and India, wouldn't you do all you can to promote energy efficiency standards?
Moreover, if you believe in science (and thus the threat of AGW), it also makes sense.

The $50 light bulb is newer than the CFL monstrosity (which you are 100% right about, btw). The $50 bulb is an LED bulb with enough LEDs to make it as bright as a 100w incandescent. Supposedly.
This is after they've figured out the the CFL bulbs are harmful to your head due to radiation (?) when they are on. And the mercury, and all the other nonsense about them.
The good news is that LEDs last 10,000 hours, which means you'll only buy one for each lamp. They are more efficient, also.

And for anyone who doesn't like CFL light quality, try the soft whites. When they're behind lamp shade, I can't tell it's fluorescent (other than it takes a minute or so to reach full brightness).
