I have a question. I just signed up to Lala. I want to add a song, but will I have to pay anything since I'm new because I have 25 song credits? Or do I still have to pay an amount? Someone please respond.
I've never been a fan of buying music online. I still buy CD's and rip them, but this is nice. If the CD's are available that's pretty damn nice they give you a digital copy and physical copy.
Emeek check out SPOTIFY, its exactly the same but its FREE to archive you lists, you can listen to whatever you want, when you want, on ANY computer, purchase the tracks, you name it. You need to review this ASAP, because Spotify is where people are heading fast. They will not pay 10 cents to archive if they can do it for FREE on Spotify, and have exactly the same content available. Good review though, enjoyed it.
I have a little bit of the sniffles too Emeek, just how it is during this time. Mixing Orange Juice with Cranberry with Raspberry seems to give a double shot of antioxidants.
try not to overwork yourself with youtube, give stuff time here and there. it seems like your over your head with youtube stuff - try to take things easy.
... I tryed chrome on my mac... it was horrible i uninstalled it =.. sd youtube videos were at 10 fps and hd youtube videos in safari were at 30 fps...
For songs i usally just go to rhapsody, find a song, wait for it to load, pause,Window>Activity> then find the file =) And it usally downloads it with your artist/song information, sometimes album artwork.
applesoldier, this is nothing against you, but im really starting to hate your mic. as you may know, i watch every one of your videos, and the new mic changes the volume all the time. also could you please just use the built in mic until you get the pop filter?
Yeh it's because this is a performance and pro-recording mic. They're a lot more sensitive to the 'proximity effect' than the things built into laptops and cheap desktop mics.
One has to keep ones mouth facing into it at all times no matter one one is doing. With DJs, singers, voice over artists and all other performers they will ensure that their mouths are always facing into mic, no matter what they're doing. It takes practice. I didn't think Emeek is too bad, I've heard much worse.
Thing is when using these pro level mics. One really needs to be monitoring the audio through headphones, so one can hear the sound as it's recorded. This is why DJs, radio presenters and recording artists are always using headphones, to monitor their own audio, plus of course to hear the rest of what's going on in the recording or radio show.
Often a voice-compressor will be used in conjunction with the mic, to help level out the audio.
I think my blue snowball mic has a voice compressor, either that or i dont ever look away from the mic because i dont have that problem. but its a good thing to be aware of next time i record with it
Yeh.. you know how to work the mic, to ensure a good sound. I know a couple of podcasters which have produced great results using the Snowball.
BTW I was doing podcasting for a couple of years. My mic of choice at the time was a Shure SM58, one of the de-facto industry standard recording dynamic-mics. into a valve/tube pre-amp and compressor box. I loved the sound this produced.
Leo Laporte is the one to watch for how to work a mic. He's a real pro with that Heil PR40, which is a dynamic mic.
I edit every track I import from my CD collection by removing the silence at the beginning/end and maximizing the volume so that I don't have to adjust the volume when listening to my music.
Also, I create my own tracks, something that would not be in the LaLa database.
I can actually see Lala getting quite expensive for some. Especially if one streams a lot of songs at 10 cents a pop. 10 songs and that's a dollar.
The thing is Lala is tied to a computer and an internet connection. You can't take it to the gym and be working out or something. If I was going for a subscription music service I would have something like Napster. Which is fixed subscription, unlimited downloads, and completely portable with the appropriate MP3 player.
There is no place for You to wonder anything. You just don't ask a person that You don't know, how much money does he earns. That is like fundamental etiquette in every world country.
It is ironic..however not many of my customers have Macs, and the ones which do have Macbooks. Laptop service and repair is not really something I've been doing much of yet, apart from HDD and RAM upgrading.
Chrome spikes up your CPU like CRAZY if you are watching a flash video in Chrome. However, it doesn't take up a lot of RAM. Safari is the opposite. Doesn't take up much CPU, but if you use it for a while it will take up almost 500MB of RAM.
good thing about lala is there are no ads and the music if free online like spottify. I hope itunes dont do that. ill stop using it. I wont pay monthly to access music. and I dont want to see ads will listening. Lala is to good, i guarantee it will change. as far as offline mode, I use itunes for that. Its meant to integrate with it. off line mode? that sounds iffy. I assume to use it offline you have to download the music but what about people not paying monthly? Do they make you download ads
Lala and Spotify have some differences. I really liked how Lala works. But sadly I cant use it, yet...
How Spotify works:
Even when you're online, the songs you have in the playlist is downloaded and stored on your HDD.
That means that you don't stream all the time.
If you have premium acc, you can have up to 3,333 songs in your off-line playlist. So you can play them, even if you're not connected to the internet.
If you have free account, there are some ads shown in the player window.
The more tabs you open in google chrome the more CPU it will take up as it treats all tabs as kind of a new browser so when a tab crashes your browser dont
hmm....i wonder when was the last time u were on a date....
ps. @ 4:45 - a perfect sign of ignorance! i cant wait for apple to fuck you up so you can stop considering apple your big mommy! start living in the real world!
So no bling bling for Eric while on camera.. oh that's too bad.
BTW I've been married twice, and didn't wear the rings on a daily basis. As I just don't like wearing jewellery, plus a couple of the jobs I've had, have specifically prohibited the wearing of metallic items.
Saw that Lala is being shut down.
Maybe Apple is going to start a similar service within iTunes or something like that at WWDC 2010?

When you buy the CD, you get the webalbum for free, right?
The webalbum is only for streaming isn't it?
Would be VERY nice if you actually got the downloadable MP3's for "free" when you buy the CD.

i just wanna know how much money a person can make using his computer (MAC or PC)

probably if u wouldn't make a few thousands of bucks every month, u wouldn't spend so much time in front of your mac

Lala looks pretty sweet.
Too bad they're only available in the US.
I've used Spotify for over a year, but it is only available in Europe.
You stream the music, either for free (ad-supported) or you can get a Premium acc for $15 pr month.
You can have 3,333 songs in offline-mode, so you don't need to be online.
iPhone app is available.
Quality is good. 160kbit/s OGG (320kbit/s for Premium acc).
And you can buy the music too.
Looking forward to trying Lala when it is available outside US.

And once in a while there is an audiable ad between songs.
It can be annoying. If you don't want ads, you pay for a Premuim acc.
With Premium you can use the iPhone app to listen to your music.
It is not perfect. But it is one step towards reducing piracy.
Same with Lala. Why pirate MP3's when you can stream them for free, or buy them for less than $1 pr song?
This is what record companies should have done a LONG time ago, to offer an easy way to listen/buy music online instead of piracy.

I listen to alot of US artists.
I find almost all of them in Spotify.
But the music library is limited. No Metallica, AC/DC, Pink Floyd and stuff like that. Guess not all labels want in on this.
And only the most known artists from US is in the music library. I guess that would change if Spotify ever is available in the US.
One example is Clutch. There are a few songs available. But not all albums. And that is annoying.
PS: Found Pride & Glory in Spotify.
