First, I love Haley's singing!! She should have one for sure! I'm a repeat listener.
But this song probably did her in. She sang the chorus perfectly, but the rest was just off the mark. She just doesn't have any real power in her voice down low and she needs more work on songs with fast lyrics...she tends to blur the words. That is perfect for Blues, Jazz and Rock & Roll, which she is amazing at!!!. Just not for songs like this.
@ridesv I think she should've taken up the lower parts a little bit. It didn't help that they just left her voice out there with hardly any instrumentation during those parts. A voice coach will help her continue to develop her lower register, but her mid, upper, and falsetto are all flawless. She has an amazing range and power behind her voice. At least she TRIED for those notes, unlike some other contestants who will remain nameless *cough Lauren and Scotty cough*

I didn't ever understand why the judges would choose a fast-paced Alanis song for Haley. In my opinion, they should've given her something from Joss Stone.

It sounds fine to me. She took a song I could not stand and made it palatable enough for me to even like it. It's cuse Alanis sounds like she's whining and Haley does not.
The chorus was good. The verses, not so much. The lower notes are a bit out of her vocal range, and it kind of sounds like she's choking on them. Overall, not a good song for her. She has a great voice, but this particular song just isn't suited to her. Props to her for a good attempt though. It's a difficult song to sing.

I like this song for Haley, but the "talking" parts of the song didn't show off her voice at all.
I didn't ever understand why the judges would choose a fast-paced Alanis song for Haley. In my opinion, they should've given her something from Joss Stone.
Haley is like Joss Stone, Adele, and Janis Joplin combined, with some jazz thrown in the mix. So unique and fantastic.

The chorus was good. The verses, not so much. The lower notes are a bit out of her vocal range, and it kind of sounds like she's choking on them. Overall, not a good song for her. She has a great voice, but this particular song just isn't suited to her. Props to her for a good attempt though. It's a difficult song to sing.

@satelng You probably haven't heard her other stuff. Watch Haley's versions of "What is and What Should Never Be", "House of the Rising Sun", "I Who Have Nothing", "Bennie and the Jets" and others and you'll see how amazing she is.
This song wasn't that well suited for her voice, but the choruses were strong. It wasn't bad considering she learned it the day before.

She did Led Zep, Stevie Nix and then ALANIS. Go back and look at what the others performed on this same week. Again, it’s a competition; she was attempting to differentiate herself from the others on the show. I suppose it’s somewhat akin to Alanis doing My Humps

You didn’t like her interpretation, fine. It’s a competition. When Alanis performed it on AI it was also different. Its likely Alanis was not too upset – especially now that they are with the same mgt co. Supporting her is your choice – don’t come here to bash – it’s out of character given who you profess to be.
