  • great version , how its lasted the test of time

  • Now this really IS quality.

  • Just wonderfull !!

  • I see two dislikes of this song.....are they nuts!!! This is a fabulous song sung perfectly. What's to dislike? Thanks for uploading.

  • Dusty was so underated as a soloist when she left the Springfields.... so sad R.I.P.

  • It would have been nice to see them singing this version as it sounds exactly like the version I have on CD., FABULOUS SONG FABULOUS GROUP. Thanks for the posting, AND please if anyone has this live I would love to see it, Gary

  • Back on 18 March 1982 my wife was giving birth to our daughter at Newport Isle of Wight hospital. Some workers outside had a radio going and this version of the song was played 30 minutes before our daughter was born. It was a very special song, played on a special occaision completely unbeknownst to the workmen Our lovely daughter is 29 tomorrow is getting married this year and gave me a beautiful grandson 18 month ago -how time flies

  • @petelucas51 Congratulations to you and your daughter, hope you had a great time. A fantastic song for anytime. Time flies! - tell me.When I visited you my daughter was 4 years old and now she is 19!!! Isle of white, I spent a fantastic holiday week there and would've gladly spent much, much more time on that fabulous island. I can remember it so well and they may not like the comparison but the people are very much like the people on Arran. Although it is a compliment.

  • the harmonies were great here,id forgotten what a great song this was.

  • Yeah I love Jimmy Hendrix , The Doors , Bob Dylan but this one simple number pulls at my heart string .

  • As a child i loved this song and it is recently i came to realize it was Dusty singing, her voice sounds beautiful, seems effortless. I never grow tired of her voice. Truly a legend with a voice to measure others against. Sad she is no longer with us.

  • Really shows Dusty's range soul country and pop what a legend!

  • Thanks to Dusty - the supreme individualist, talent, mischief and passion in a matchless mix - and to Tom, who wrote some very, very fine popular songs.

  • favourite song thanks for posting.

  • Lovely, lovely, lovely...

  • pure song dusty will always be remembered by people like me GOD BLESS

  • Dusty, i run out of words for your contribution to music.

  • this song just sends me to a happy place, thanks 2glenside and you tube

  • This reminds me of summer 1969 .It played on the radio while i was working outside in the sun,.....I could just picture lying on a beach and drinking Margarita's,..LOL !!

  • @1pingfasily Those of us still arund will have great memories to go with this ...great harmony and sound

  • again a would wander where memories enfold me there on the beautiful island of dreams.....PRICELESS!

  • wata group awesome

  • good song and singers

  • Perfect.. Love it..

  • Dusty was an awsome singer. she Is 1 of my most faves from the early days.

  • i remember this one

  • This was the origins of the great Dusty

I had a Dansette too, my younger brother used to play me records while I was at school, so I used to take the stylus out with me heh

  • Great song, great singer(s) ! Thanks Dusty, where ever you are :-(

    Hans

    Amsterdam

  • nou als ik kiezen mag, geef mij de uitvoering van

the Seekers maar, maar er valt hier niet veel te kiezen..HELAAS !

when I make a choice, give me that number

from The Seekers ! But where are the choice ?

  • When I was a child of about 6 years old, my aunt gave me her old Dansette record player and a stack of 45s. This was among them. I still have that record. What a treasure!

  • @laceup1967 I also had a Dansette record player and the very same recording. Spent hours in my bedroom playing my record collection and used a brush as a microphone and pretended to be one of the group. Wonderful carefree days.

  • thnks for posting this...listened 2 this when i was a kid back in da 80's, they dont make music like this anymore!

  • This song, this version is so special for me.

Played it incessantly on old dansette in late sixties. I was only 6/7 yrs old. God, I had such great taste even then! A MAGICAL record! (And the b sides not bad either!)

  • what a gift!

  • a classic from 1963

  • I love the B-side of this songs Johnson Boys "Shame shame on the Johnson Boys" Dusty sounds really good and witty on that song, and it completes a nice single Island of Dreams B/ Johnson Boys get On an island of dreams worth it!!!

  • I love this version, how can anyone not?

    She will always be remembered

  • @thweethart Three people need to consult a Doctor!!!

  • her look at 1.35 to her right is a charming captive moment in time...brilliant song ..never better sung..

  • Actually, I had only heard this song as recorded by THE SEEKERS. I think that I like this rough, raw version by Dusty Springfield and the Springfields a little better ~

  • Dusty Springfield vs Judith Durham? no contest, they are both brilliant. Tom Springfield wrote for the Seekers, quite a connection.

  • i remember going to see these with my parents when i was ten at an old odeon cinema. they were alright, but i went on to love ROCK ROCK ROCK music. ye-ha

  • this made me late for parade when i first heard it ended up with jankers it was worth it .

  • Dusty Springfield never got the acolaides of what a great vocalist she was and this oen song is a testament of her true talents what would lay ahead as a solo artist.

  • Story of my life..

    Absolutely Lovely..

    Timeless..

  • Beautiful. A better version even than the wonderful Seekers.

  • my favourite always and forever

  • My favourite song of all time.

  • I like this recording, a lot!!! However,I still far prefer the acoustic version up the screen, which is clearly live and was probably from that TV show SHINDIG. Or that similar show; what was it called?? HULLABALOO??? Help me.--andy boehm

  • dusty, wat ben je goed, remember the days,on the beach in holland, every days loving you music, beachborrel

  • This is got up there amongst the greats..thanks for sharing it with us..

  • I was a horny young sailor!! listned to this in the Merchant Navy Hotel, Hull, UK--where is she now? I stil have a MAJOR crush on her....

  • Dusty passed away in 1999. R.I.P.

  • Fantastic early Dusty

  • Leaving aside Miss Springfield's carpet-licking and her regretable lack of attraction to spotty 14-year-old males, this is really 40 years on, still very, very good.

    Thanks for posting

  • what you got against carpets? Never had rug burns?

  • I really fancied dusty when i was about 14.

An unrequited love, of course. I was spotty, skinny and earned about one thousandth of her earnings. Also, unbeknownst to all, she was a carpet-licker.

  • Even if Dusty hadn't been a "carpet-licker", as you so crudely put it, you didn't stand a chance because she wasn't a cradle snatcher.

  • It is sad isn't it that a few have to get crude and smutty and spoil it for many - I wish that if it was not to their choice they would just refrain from comment.

The quality in her voice is what it is all about and is altready apparent in this recording

  • You're absolutely right. The weird part of your comment is that it showed up in my inbox -- and yet I can't find a comment of mine. You appear to have replied to ProfessorEdelstein. Odd!

  • Your dismay is right - and that was the target - not the first time that this has happaned - I have also had some responses that I thought - what the hell are you talking about

My apologies if my comments were not appropriate

  • No need for apologies, indah. Misdirected mail is an occasional problem with YouTube. Actually, it has sometimes led to interesting conversations :)

  • To true i agree with you..

  • for me the musical production here just clashes with the purity of the song - see oldibutgoodi54's live performance version for a comparison. The accompanying photos are an absolute knockout on this vid. Tks 2glenside for posting. So sad Mary/Dusty no longer with us. Wonder what the guys are doing these days. Cheers.

  • one of the best tunes of the 60s, i remember it played on high interference radios on holidays in scotland, brill memories.

  • 60's lyrics, music and images at their very best.

  • A fantastic song sang with so much feeling. I love it and it tends to bring tears to my eyes. I will never forget Dusty Springfield.

  • Breathtakingly beautiful song! Incredible lyrics! Beautiful beautiful Dusty

  • Everything just fits well together. Dusty's high notes, especially far from the mad rushing CROWDS, still sends tingles up my spine

  • Thank you for the posting.

Do you have "Say I Won't Be There'?

  • Just wonderful harmony and backup, Dusty at her very very best.

  • Dad used to play this on cassette in the car when I was just a wee boy

  • Likewise. The first record I ever heard that did anything for me!

  • I've been looking for this one for years, i thought it must have gone into the forgottens thanx for this post

  • same here
