some of the cheapest items are always the best. to this day i am using shea butter, olive oil and cocnut oil. just cuz it has some fancy name doesnt mean its all that
I'm just as lost and wish I could help, BUT I do like your video and your honesty!! Some people wouldn't post this! I don't know WHAT products to use AND some are just too dang expensive!!! Right now, I'm stuck on thinking Olive Oil products are the best...yeah, I need to get outside of my box!!!
I THINK I FEEL THE SAME WAY YOU DO I HAVE 3 KIDS ANDC CAN BARELY AFFORD THE PRODUCTS. I WANT TO EMBRACE MY HAIR BUT I HAVE NO HELP. I HAVE SHORT LITTLE VIDEO OF WHAT I USE AND I DID THAT FROM A CELLPHONE THAT IS HOW DESEPARTE AND NEED HELP PLEASE HELP I WANT TO CRY.
Our hair is the most fragile of the other hair types, so i'd advise u 2 use a sulphate free shampoo and to deep condition regularly (once a week is a good start). I use Aubrey organics honeysuckle rose or island naturals. A good leave-in is also gr8 4 xtra moisture. I use oyin's honey hemp
Your GORGEOUS girl, so keep smiling : ). U r DEFINITELY a 4c! I have the same hair type : ) moisturising and sealing are our best friends!! I'v learnt that along the way. I use oyin juice and berries, and seal with either coconut, olive, castor, or sapote oil (the last 2 r my faves). I also use Shea butter and mix it with either of those oils.
Hi Lady. You are not ugly. You are Bold for embracing your naturalness. If you are still holding on I'll share my experience with you. I have the exact same hair type. If you try nothing else try Taliajh Wajeed's Mist Bodifier for a daily moisturizer. The stuff is "Hair Crack" LOL I also use her Black Shampoo and Conditioner. I also like The Bantu Leavi-in Conditioner. These products do not buildup or make your hair dry and flaky. Stay Strong. curious1915

Try doing a the coconut creme "relaxer". It's not a relaxer its a deep conditioner that will lengthen your curl pattern and make your hair extra soft. There are alot of videos on youtube. I tried it and love it.
Hi there. First off, you are a beautiful sista so no matter what always know that. I think we might have about the same hair type except mine has a curl pattern to it. Anyways, I am new at this but this is what I use: Suave Professionals Shampoo & Conditioners - I like Almond/Shea Butter or Rosemary Mint. My beauticians in the Walmart Salon said that Suave products don't have the harsh waxes that other products have that can block moisture. Oils- carrott, coconut, olive/castor mix
I am struggling to keep my hair moisturized and stop the shedding and loss. I have big chopped twice. I do not want to resort to the perm again. I want my hair to be healthy and grow in its natural state. I am actually going to visit a salon to help with my hair this time around until I get my niche. Me too-i have had many ppl tell me about products that don't work for me. I have spent so much money. My hair doesn't like oils, it likes cream based products.
your hairs adorable by the whay i know how you feel with short hair though my hair dresser gave me a lesbian cut and i never whent back your lucky you have a verry faminine face so it works were as i do not and my hair sucked
You are not ugly! You are very beautiful! While I realize this video is old. I really like your hair this length. I miss my hair being this length as it was much easier to care for. Again, you are a very attractive young lady. Wearing your hair natural is trial and error. You'll figure it out as you go along! Good luck in your natural hair journey!
U look great!! Try doo grow shampoo. Also check out Blackonyx website, she also sells products. I haven't tried them yet, but can't wait to. Embrace your hair it is trial and error.
I ABSOLUTELY love YOUR HAIR!!! you have 4c hair and if you are still having problems with this message me ill give you some tips. i have the smae tpye od hair and had this problem at first too
@waynehersheykiss08 i'm no longer having problems except that i get lazy when it comes to moisturizing my hair cuz i have to do it almost everyday, my hair is so thick that it sucks up everything.
@anime4reek i actually do a deep condition every time i wash my hair which is once a week if i stick to my hair care regimen. i dont know if thats good or bad.
@LuvinNappy oh thats real good! Our hair love moisture!!! Oh and I've found that the LOIS hair typing system helped me understand my hair's needs and behaviors, maybe that will help? Btw I WISH I looked as good as you in a twa =3
I have the same hair texture as yours, so I`ll tell what works for me. I found out that going natural meant I felt more comfortable switching to natural hair ingredients and this is the list:
Shea butter blended with a tablespoon of water in a powerful blender, olive oil, coconut oil, essential oils, the coconut milk and plain yogurt mixture as a conditioner and so on. Avoid shampoos containing sodium laureth salfate and parebens. For more kitchen or natural recipes google Motown girl.
@AirForceGirl05 true but on the real ive always been teased because i looked haitian(which i am..duh) or i had short hair, so like everyone i have my insecurities. i guess i just dont see what everyone else does
@LuvinNappy they only did that to you because they wanted to look like you and dont know how to express it, i know, it's crazy! ive been through the same teasing growing up, and was told i looked like a hatian as well, still today but it is actually a compliment because hatians are beautiful. stay yourself, you are beautiful.
You should try a wet and go style. Wet your hair. Don't shampoo it. Towel dry it only. Don't blow dry it. You can use Organics conditioner in your hair and S curl texturizer hair gel. Coat it as much as possible. Don't rinse out the conditioner. That's it. You can sport a really cute head band too if you want.
You'll learn to love the hair God gave you. STAY AWAY FROM products with: Beeswax, Mineral Oil and Petrolatum in them. Use oils, conditioner and moisturizers instead of grease. CUT DOWN ON: Saturated fats, sugar and dairy(very hard to do but possible). Take a multi-vitamin daily. Excellent book to buy as a reference: Texured Tresses by Diane Da Costa. Use glycerine in the summer to pull moisture into the hair. You will be fine, just give it time.:-)
You are beutiful girl! I have the same problem though! Can't figure out how to get this stuff under control but, lovepigz2007 has some really good vids on here! check her out she helped me alot alot!
i'm new to the whole natural hair thing n I've had the same problem very very dry hair to the point where it was painful. then someone suggested glycerin and oh my god that really made it soft even after my hair was dried after washing. a little goes a long way. try it you'll be amazed. let me know if it helped you
OMG! Girl! first off you need to leave the white products in the store. Go get yourself some cream of nature shampoo and use a honey mayo egg mixture conditioner (homemade) and some greese lol take it back to the old school. and no more water on hair when not washing and conditioning. good luck baby
Your hair look like mine, I think maybe 4C. Go to black oynx page she give good moisturizing tip. U look great u have to own it. Experiment as well with what works best with your hair. I'm still discovering. Carefree curl activator works good on my hair, also coconut oil, shea butter and olive oil. GOOD LUCK
You are beautiful, I am sure everyone's said this by now. Use water and whipped shea to braid/twist your hair and 100% unrefined coconut oil to oil the scalp/moisturize the whole hair between styling. Sleep with a satin bonnet as well. Coconut oil is my fav, I Iove the stuff it works wonders!
any change since then? you are beautiful sis, no lie. one tip i can say is never comb your hair while its dry...and if your hair is hard then you may be using products with proteins in them. try to use more natural products until your hair gets longer...this video was made in april, how is your progress??
Your not ugly, you are just using the WRONG PRODUCTS. Shea butter, coconut oil, carrot oil, are oils you should be using. Stop using a lot of water on your hair - it only dries it more. MOISTURE MOISTURE MOISTURE your hair with natural oils. Also DEEP CONDITIONING helps.
i suggest google'n ANY question you have about your hair. it's better than youtube if you really have no idea get a book on natural hair also. I've done these things and i'm glad i did. I learned soo much about my hair. It's also trial and error. What works for one person may not work for you, even if you have the same hair type
girl... you need shea butter and jamaican black castor oil. get it asap, and dont feel ugly. I understand though... Aloe vera is good too. OMG, e-mail me. I'll hook you up
lol sis ur gorgeous, enhance your beauty make it a complete look, it is your own individual style, invest in some great natural makeup, if you want to and matching nail polish brighten up your look put a flower on the side, be bold, confident, and exactly who you were meant to be and the rest will follow! can I get a amen!
I can't tell how many men have complimented me on owning my own hair, my husband prefers me to be no other way, but it initially is about what I want, I don't get as many compliments as I used to ( it wasn't highly popular to see that many naturals where I'm from) I believe it is because there are more and more of us who rock our natural hair so it is almost becoming a norm, well that and wigs!
getting to know me and not letting people (family & friends) get me down about what I wanted to do and what I was trying to achieve. I learned actually how to love myself better and exude confidence, and you know what it paid off, just look at us now! so many videos about natural haircare/ products.
When I went natural my hair look just like yours and actually it was shrunken, dry and very hard, now this was 18 years ago, when none of the you tubers were on here to give me any advice and the vast majority of information, sis the one thing I can tell you ( and no I let the others tell you about hair products, because mostly it will through trial and error) however, the one thing I learned about my natural 4c hairtype was that I learned how to be patient! it is a virtue ya know!
i kno this is vid is a bit old and dont kno if uve found anything yet but
i agree w/ jabrilla about cantu shea. i started w/ curl keeper by africas best bc i was really dry in the begin stages too
also dont comb/pick when out of shower or dry...use fingers as much as possible and allow to air dry -i only comb wet hair w/ gel to avoid frizz. also dont be afraid to rewet/cond in shower daily as needed
What has worked the best for me is doing the moisture/balance and curly girl method. Basically keeping a GREAT amount of moisture in your hair and sealing it in with oils. Black curly hair NEEDS moisture and often we are NOT getting enough or washing it out with harsh chemicals. I won't recommend any specific products as different people need different things. Tigher curl patterns tend to do better with more creamy products. Be careful because a lot of over the counter cream "moisturizers"
The shampoo and conditioner that i used and loved is by Always Natural and it has Indian Hemp in it. That has been great for me and has given me tons of growth. You can buy that at a hair store for about $4 each! Good luck, keep tryin :-)
Cantu Shea Butter Leave in Conditioning Cream is the best product I've discovered! It's about 5 dollars at Walmart or any hair store. It will def soften up your curls! Hopefully you are not still using that Aussie and Garnier stuff if it dries up your hair! As a natural sista, you have to become a label junkie. READ ALL LABELS. products that have laurel sulfate, mineral oil, petralatum, and a lot of alcohol products are very drying to your hair.
I'd recommend vegetable glycerin mixed with water, 1 Tsp to 16 oz of water. I have 4b/c hair, it craves moisture. Keep your hair moisturized to avoid breakage. Avoid silicone ladden products , petrolatum and mineral oil. theses will clog your hair cuticles and stop moisture absorption. A good thing to base your product choices on is "If it's edible, it's safe." Remember, your body will be absorbing these ingredients. Extra virgin oil, from the grocers, is a great moisturising conditioner.
My hair type is 4b. I used Profectiv Growth Renew products. I really love the deep conditioner. The shampoo is ok. I love the Growth Renew lotion. I use Dr. Bronner's mild liquid soap as shampoo because it doesn't dry out my hair. It has various oils like coconut oil etc. When my hair was this short I wore a hair band and rocked my TWA. You're beautiful! I have a video showing how short my hair is. I have a problem with thinning edges. They grew back because of the Profectiv products.
First of all...you are sooo cute! But I know what you mean when you say you just feel ugly...that's just one of the realities of transitioning from the old way of life to the new natural way of life...that will pass with time. You will adjust to seeing your natural hair texture and you will hardly even remember what you used to look like. Secondly, rather than picking out your hair, why not try wash-n-go...or maybe adding a little something to define your coil a bit...just for a different look.
Try the infusium 23 moisturology line (shampoo, conditioner, and leave in). I was strugling with dry hair after using products such as Aubrey and Giovanni. But once I applied the Infusium 23 line and used shea butter mixture, my hair was in heaven.
By the way, you look great. looking at your hair, I believe you and I have the same hair texture; my hair looked like that when I chop it off. My hair Is mostly 4c and probably 3c or 4a in the back.
I hate that Garnier Fructise conditioner too! It is very drying. Just to curb future breakage, please dont comb/pick your hair too much while its dry! I have also found that sometimes creating your own conditioners with like coconut oil as well xtra virgin olive oil. Please, don;t be discouraged, you are beautiful sister! Also, our hair only grows about 6 inches a year, and that is without succumbing to any damage. The rest of the year our hair is cycling through phases, so hold steady!
I know those days when you just dont feel pretty when our hair is very short....but its a condition that we can't help some times...its all a process....YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!! Good luck on your natural journey! Thanks for sharing...its youtube great??
Create a mixture with coconut oil and extra virgin oil, or with someother oils. Check out RusticBeauty's video tutorial on how she makes it. I've found it really softens my hair.
yeah i just used a shea butter mixture that has glycerin EVOO and rosemary oil. its really good. i used it to do my two strand twist. it turned out good. Thanks!
First of all, you going natural is NOT a disaster. Your free from the bonadge. There's nothing wrong with weaves mind, they provide choices BUT it's problem when you can't stand the thought of leaving the house without them. I congratulate you. However if you don't mind returning to weaves have you considered micro braids? Doesn't have to be the straight kind, you could get a kinky twist one?
I have 4a-4c hair (I think) Just recently I tried out the vegetable glycerin, and water mix I also added a little vitamin e and EVOO (very little), I'm so used to having dry hair that when I sprayed it out the bottle I put to much it made my hair "overly moist". So a little goes a long way and it worked really good on my hair HTH and good luck.
you have the same hair like me 4C. ALWAYS keep your hair moisturized with sheabutter cream. it really works-make sure u nevr dry your her with heat or something then your hair is gonna grow beautifully!!!
join the crowd I just found out by reading hair forums..that my hair is protein sensitive...now I am trying to see what I can use and that is my price range. No matter what I have done it is dry and hard...UGHHH
From watching this video, I'm at the same growth stage right now and I also have 4C hair. I'm actually starting over my natural hair process from transitioning out from a perm because it didn't work out. But don't lose hope! It'll work out.
Girl dont consider it a disaster.. your hair is beautiful!! I have the same hair type as u & after i did my BC, i also made a vid askin4 HELP! lol My hair was dry &I was looking for this "curl" pattern that everyone talks about. Truth is, my hair doesnt "curl" as much as maybe the next person so I'm learnin what products work 4my specific hair type. The tighter the "curl", it seems like the harder it is 2keep it moisturized. I've been doin the CG method 4a couple months.. Feel free2 msg me :)
gurl you need to see tracima's rap song on the twa. I was wearing weaves but i love my twa. i wash once a month/ with an avacado deep conditioner/ i baggy every night/ I love my hair/ using all natural and home made recipes. my hair is loving me You are beautiful and you must know this!!!!
First thing is to make sure you are not using products with protein in them. I have ur hair type and I realised all those products i had been using had protein in them. it made my hair hard and very brittle. I cute all that out and now my hair is healthy. Then use try not to wash ur hair with shampoo. Use conditioner and co wash hair once a week. When u do this it will help. Our hair hates shampoo but loves conditioner. nothing expensive the VI05 conditioner that cost 89cents thats good.
I condition my hair with this conditioner called Inecto pure coconut oil conditioner (100% coconut oil), LOVE IT. I discovered that both my conditioner and my henna treatments make my hair really soft to touch and so...lol can't think of an adjective; but seriously you should try the conditioner, plus it's not expensive at all!! I got it for like £3 (it should probably be around that price in dollars). Also I will put up my video of my henna treatment and girlie, i love your hair, so cute =)
I will go totally natural after the twists that I have now. I said braids before, but I meant twists. Also watch the other vids on You Tube, there are very inspiring ladies out here. Search on: natural hair care etc. Don't despair; being afraid is ok, we all are some time or another! Good luck!
Secondly; I have your exact hairtype. I wasn't to sure about a twa, so I braided my hair. I just stopped using chemicals all together and my hair does not itch anymore! What I used as shampoo; the vinegar method, 1 ounce of vinegar to 3 to 6 ounces of water, then rinse it out with lukewarm water. Condtioner; 1 egg, mixed with castor oil and aloe vera oil. I've also purchase an absolute hair MUST pure sheabutter. It really does wonders for my hair. I also recommend pure avocado oil!
First of all, stop putting yourself down. I know it's easy to do, if you already feel bad, but it will definitely not help you. I know it seems weird, but say to yourself out loud and tell yourself that you are beautiful, because you are. And I would DIE to have your figure!!! If you dress nice, you will definitely feel nice. Well, it works for me.
do not be discouraged, you are BEAUTIFUL. I would say use Organics Root Stimulator conditioners, they are really great for me; but I don't know what hair type I have. I also use a mixture of egg yolk, mayo, and olive oil; it's like lunch for my hair. I also use Cantu Shea butter, and Smooth & Shine's curl activating gel, for styling.
Please do not be discouraged . It gets better!!! . I HAVE YOUR HAIR SO I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL!!! You MUST USE all natural products because our hair dries out easily! Be careful with the pic because we have fragile hair and it will break easily. I used Sta Sof Fro in the brown bottle daily to keep my hair moist. The magic is in the glycerin and water. You should do natural treatments like olive oil-honey treatments. I use the Ayurvedic Hair system and Giovanni smooth as silk conditioner.
I just did my big chop on 8-5-09. I am not rocking my tiny afro yet. I use shea butter, coconut oil, lavender oil and plan to buy more oils when i can.. get rid of the stuff that is not natural, find you a natural moisturizing shampoo and conditioner ( i use Komaza) I stopped buying sodas, so can afford to buy the products i need for my journey, i wear tracks using Gro protect solution. if i am using the wrong products some pull my coat tail and correct me
Hey Im doin the whole TWa thing too. i think we have about the same amount of hair and we have the same hair type. i use orgainics shampoo and conditioner i get it from wal-mart they're about $5 dollars each and then i put a little blue magic in my hair (which u can also get frm walmart) while its still damp and then i pick it out. hope this helps and your hair is beautiful and so are u
Hi Queen, You really have to try different products for natural hair to find the one that really works for you. I use Hawaian silky 14in1, Pantene Relaxed and Natural daily moisturizer, Cantu Shea butter shampoo, and Creme of Nature Leave in Conditioner. I hope that helps, but you'll get it.
Stop shampooing ,just co-wash with coinditioner, use suave or cantu shea butter.get a spray bottle add coconut oil and olive oil and water and spray your hair to moisturize it. . Buy a small travel size spray bottle for work. I was keeping my hair too dry and every time it would grow it would just break right back off. I use pure rosemary oil on my scalp after I co-wash and it makes it very soft and it is growing like weeds now. I have been natural sine 2005. Good Luck.
try suave coconut i heard it is good for the hair. i also hear coconut oil. I use castro oil softs my hair. I just BC so i used castro oil and LA activator gel to braid and twists my hair. I have kinky twist right now it been twks since i cut my hair. to avoid breaking your edges don't braid tight around the edges. you hair is long enough to do braids. it will help retain moisture to the hair. i took one of my braid out two days ago and it was still soft and had castrol oil still in it.
I think you are beautiful and I love your hair. I've been natural since last year may and it wasn't till about Jan this year that my hair just got a mind of its own and has been growing like its on steriods!! Keep watching youtube videos of natural sisters. We are here to support you!! Make sure you have shea butter in your arsenal ;)
I am rocking a TWA too. It looks like we have the same texture. My hair is about the same length too. I co-wash with Suave naturals (no cones). Then I follow up with coconut oil. I refresh in the morning with a mixture of water and Infusium 23. I wear my hair just like yours is in the video. You can add headbands and cute earings to jazz it up. I had always had long hair before my BC. You just have to rock it until you are comfortable. Don't hide behind the wigs. Your hair is great.
For anyone having problems like this: I posted two comments on her page. They list all the videos she can use to define her curls, style, and an easy regime. The twists option I mention there can be done weekly. The cowash daily. Good luck. And, I hope u all recognized that this lady is gorgeous and so is her hair..just as it is in this video.
*cont* I didn't really use the creme of nature's often because it has petroleum but it honestly moisturized me really well. I make my own leave-in now but at your stage those products worked well for me IMO. *edit* I used queen helene's jojoba hot oil , added water and glycerin and my hair had a really moist curly look when I baggied it. *sorry it sounds like a lot I was constantly experimenting*
First off you aren't ugly neither is your hair. I actually love how soft your hair looks. I actually used a lot of heavy products at your stage that weren't good for my hair but I liked the weighed down look. For a moisturized yet light looking look, I found co-washing with suave humectant conditioner or any cheapo and using glycerin, water and jojoba oil baggied on my head at night sometimes helped keep in moisture. Also carefree curl gold with cream of nature's lemongrass/rosemary leave-in.
I find that co washing with V05 moisture milks works well. I only use a non sulfate shampoo once a week. Dampen hair in AM then apply Cantu Shea leave in...then seal in with an oil...combo of shea butter, coconut oil, veg glycering and drop of honey is good..to seal in moisture. I style w/Blue IC Fantasia...then just a tiny bit of Long Aid Gel..helps keep it moist during the day. I think picking your hair when its dry causes breakage. I only pick after applying Cantu. Your TWA looks cute:)
I am so glad you posted this because I also feel that no one has my hair texture or know what to do with my hair.
Also drink lots of water. And take vitamins about 2000 mg of Biotin Hair grows from the inside out. My 4b/4c twa is in braids right now. I just needed a break from it as well. I will let you know how it goes. For that spot on the side, the same thing happened to me. Lol. See a dermatologist. They will prescribe soothing oil and it really works.
I have 4c as well. Its so intense. You buy all these products and nothing works. I am glad I'm not the only one. lol - thanks i felt so alone with these natural hairstyles most of which i need a relaxer to achieve. I feel the same way. lol
Your fro is very cute on you! Don't get frustrated, you'll learn what your hair likes as times goes on. Try spritzing your hair with water/glycerine throughout the day. That may help with themoisture issue. I've found that my 4b hair love protein and thrives well with it. Try headbands, flowers, scarves and clips, nice earrings etc - you'll start feeling better. Once you get to know your hair, you're going to really fall in love with it! trust me!
(cont.) If you want to use natural oil, start with something LIGHT and work your way up in terms of heaviness. When my TWA was <2" I could get away with using jojoba or sweet almond oil. At 3" I had to switch to olive and coconut oil. If you go with shea butter BE CAREFUL because it can be too heavy. Even at my length (about 8") I can't use it straight because my 4b/4c strands are very fine. I have to whip it with something (usually oil and/or conditioner).
First off: You are SOOO NOT UGLY! And your hair looks about right in terms of length.
You don't have to do anything to the TWA aside from keeping it soft. Rinsing every morning should work IF you can find something that will seal the moisture in. For me that was plain OIL. When I first went natural it was before all this stuff was online so I was using Moisture Max, and then Pink Oil when it got to your length. I never had any issues with dryness. Yes, mineral oil is bad...but it WORKED.
hi,greetings from the u.k! I have the same type of hair as you and boy it can be hard work.I did my b.c in 2007 and at the time regretted it almost as soon as I did it but i love it now.I cowash every week and only use shea butter with jojoba oil, sweet almond oil,and hemp seed oil mixed into it on my hair.I keep it moist with spraying it with water when I think it needs it. has really softened up a lot and is easier to manage now and has grown a lot.Dont give up you look great!!
Actually its known that the average persons hair grows at about an half an inch per month. You said you had 3 inches in six months right, then i guess its growing at normal rate. For inspiration I looked at this user photo album
from user Sera2544
her hair is really long now but if you look at the pics her hair started out cut low.
I have 4b hair and I use a leave-in conditioner (cantu repair cream) and layer on top with coconut oil to seal in the moisture.
Elucence moisture balancing conditioner is also a really good conditioner/leave-in.
I apply leave-in in the morning and at night before I go to sleep. I also make a deep conditioner (video tutorial on my channel) that I apply once a week.
I also co-wash daily and shampoo once a week with non-sulfate shampoo. Hope this helps :)
jewelry jewelry jewelry!! use lots of shea butter girl. try doing different things. wear headbands and do coils and twist outs. its worth it in the end. u dont have to buy expensive natural products. just find some that work good for your hair type. good luck. everybody has the ugly days but ur really pretty and the natural hair is gorgeous on u!!
you are not ugly!!....and I remember feeling the same way!..you are my hair twin!!..don't give up..what has worked best for me in keeping moisture is natural raw shea butter and CANTU shea butter leave in conditioner...and twists are your best friend..twist at night and then twist out, you will begin to love it! gives it texture!
Your hair type is just like my hair 4b-4c. I also did the big chop in December of 2008. I wore wigs from December to now. You look beautiful. You remind me of myself when I was 20 and natural. Try using shea butter on hair and scalp. Braid your hair at night and wear it loose as an afro during the day until it gets long enough. Do small twist and twist out. Use a natural shampoo and conditioner. Keep watching youtube for ideas. You are not ugly. Hang in there it will be OK. Good Luck.
You're beautiful. I felt the same way when I cut mine and the negative comments didn't help either. But I'm learning to not pay attention to that and love myself and my hair more.
here's how i retain moisture. it might work well for you especially since you rinse your hair everyday anyway. wash 'n go w/ cantu shea butter leave-in; when i get home from work, i apply either whipped shea butter, or mixture of coconut oil & a 7-in-1 oil; put on plastic cap, bonnet, then tie scarf. in the a.m. if i don't rinse [w/ cool water to reduce frizz], i simply spritz with veg glyc & water mixture to wake up the curls, then gently pick out w/ pick or fingers.
Also, I think Design Essentials is great; especially if you have a TWA. Their line really defines your curls and makes the hair EXTREMELY soft...you won't be able to stop touching it! If you don't want to purchase the full package, I'd at least recommend Wave By Design Define & Shine 2N1 Lotion.
I've been natural for 2 years now. I recently got it cut again. But before I cut it (2 weeks ago) it was bob-length. I thought it would be easier having my hair short (I never did the BC, I just wore out my relaxer). All I have to say is, wash-n-go doesn't work for my 4c hair.
4 c not a curse..lol!!!....we should be encouraging each other not joining in the negatvity : ).....4c's just have to find the right products...Im a 4c too and its a struggle some days and wonderful others!!
I think you're 4c, same as me. Our hair is really...really curly/kinky and forever needs moisture. Shea butter has become my best friend. For the past four or so months, I've been using Africa's Best Organics Shea Butter. It has no mineral oil or petroleum. It's a creme and it does a great job moisturizing and softening my hair.
I have 4 b/c hair use mayo and egg for a deep conditioner leave it in for 30mins. I also like extra virgin olive oil just a small drop keeps my hair moist. Shampoo and conditioner I use is Paul mitchell green tea treatment. Only was your hair once a week so you do not loose natural oils the scalp produces. Sleep with a satin scarf or bonet and you sould be fine.
First off u r not ugly. I believe we have the same hair texture and Cantu Shea butter moisturizes and softens my hair. I can understand where u r coming from but it all takes time to get to know your hair.
cantu shea butter leave-in conditioning repair cream IS the bomb, ain't it? i love my wash 'n go results. it gives my hair some sheen, doesn't weigh it down, defines curls and softens. another tip for a more polished wash 'n go is to use cool water to rinse. that reduces frizz big time.
you and your hair is so pretty, i love the twa look on you... but the two products i recommend are 1 good ol' shea butter and 2 glycerin and water mix, o yeah and only co wash ur hair and if u want to shampoo try a sulfate free moisturizing shampoo and only shampoo once a month at the least, wait longer if u can... good luck and much love
You and I went natural about the same time and have the same length and texture 4b/c. I ROCK MY TWA! And love it... I practice the curly girl method and now I have so much moisture. Hit me up lets talk. Bye the way you are beautiful n dont for get it!!!!!
Some recomendations on what you could use is boton oil by nexus. i love it and it adds moisture to your hair and doesnt make it too oily. i also like to use shea butter and patenes white girl conditioner to leav in. It reallyhelps define my curls and makes it soft. i also recomend using aveda for you shampoo and conditioners. Its all natural and doesnt harm your hair. I also like the home made avacado conditioner. It's one avacado oils baking soda and manionais. i hope i helped a little
garnier fructis leave-in creams dry my hair out too!!! i have dry hair and have decided to try the curly girl method (where i don't use shampoo to wash my hair and use conditioner in its place...there's a lot more to it, you should look it up). Good luck!!!
Yeah, I haven't complete;y committed to the cg method myself, but they say you have to give the cg method some time to see results. I plan on starting it when my hair is longer, but for right now I use Creme of Nature Ultra Moisturizing shampoo when I shampoo (its pretty good), I use John Frieda's Frizz Ease Curly Conditioner which is really great, and I use Elasta QP Mango Butter Moisturizer, which does have cone's but works very well in my hair (the only negative is it leaves an after smell).
(cont.)....oh yeah, the after smell is not bad, but I am just really sensitive and particular to certain scents. My hair is also short, but its long enough to be braided and from the looks, I think you can get braids too (just be careful). Trust me I know how it feels to have short hair esp. if you never had hair so short before, but keep going & don't give-up (it will grow)!!!
You should try Qhemet Biologics heavy cream...ITS AMAZING! it will moisturize your hair right away. It can be a bit too oily and heavy in the summer but its great in the winter. For the summer you could try Karens Body Beautiful Hair Milk. Its lighter and not as oily on my hair. I like this product better than the QB but my hair is a bit thinner than yours so you may want to start with the QB. Both products are completely natural. Just google the names and you can order them online.
Your hair looks good. everyone posted really good suggestions for you! you don't look ugly so STOP saying that. I can relate with how you are feeling but, this change starts with us and what we CHOOSE to say. you may feel one way but your words need to start saying positive things! Say to yourself "I am beautiful" b/c you are! anyway, I just recently went natural again after being natural a year then relaxing...I'll keep watching your videos you're very pretty! keep saying that okay!!!! peace!
also, you can look up cynthiarf on youtube. She has 4b/4c hair and she's really good detailed videos on how she keeps her hair moisturized. and also everyday, since your hair is dry, wash with conditioner, not shampoo, and make sure its a moisturizing conditioner. My faces areVO5 moisture milks, or herbal essences conditioners. make sure you shampoos are sulfate free (sodium lauryl, sodium laureth, ammonium lauryl/laurth strip the hair of moisture completely).
you can try the baking soda deep treatment. youtube it and see how it's done. all you do is add 1/2 cup of baking soda to about a cup of a moisturizing rinse out conditioner, apply it to your hair and sit with it under a plastic cap for 1-2 hours and rinse/cowash it out. the baking soda soaks up all the moisture from the conditioner and inserts it directly into the hair shaft and it leaves my 4a hair extremely soft so try that before you go and buy extra stuff :) hope i helped!
A great moisturizer is distilled water and or Aloe vera gel and vegetable glycerine. Spray on your hair in the morning and at night and when ever it feels dry. Use a moisterizing conditioner instead of shampoo. Please check out RusticBeauty vids. She has hair like you, beautiful.
your hair looks just like mine when i pick it out i have 4b. You can achieve the twisted look very quickly by brushing it in circles. I'll post a vid on how to do this sometime today or tomorrow. The best thing (i've found) to moisturize it with is shea butter (melted) with olive oil while its damp. I know what u mean about feeling ugly sometimes but you are absolutely beautiful! Don't trip we got u!
Hi welocme to you tube. I've have 4b/4c hair type too and i had trouble finding something that would help me keep moisture, and thank God i finally find something that i really love and thats smooth &shine curl activator its only like 2.50 too and i twist my hair with it too and i so love it. So give it a try or check out my video's on it. Good luck and hang in there, Its worth it in the end. Let me know how things come along ok. God bless!
you have beautiful hair

Our hair is the most fragile of the other hair types, so i'd advise u 2 use a sulphate free shampoo and to deep condition regularly (once a week is a good start). I use Aubrey organics honeysuckle rose or island naturals. A good leave-in is also gr8 4 xtra moisture. I use oyin's honey hemp
crazeegirl4life 9 months ago

Oils- carrott, coconut, olive/castor mix
nwallace1908 1 year ago
I am struggling to keep my hair moisturized and stop the shedding and loss. I have big chopped twice. I do not want to resort to the perm again. I want my hair to be healthy and grow in its natural state. I am actually going to visit a salon to help with my hair this time around until I get my niche. Me too-i have had many ppl tell me about products that don't work for me. I have spent so much money. My hair doesn't like oils, it likes cream based products.

You should try a wet and go style. Wet your hair. Don't shampoo it. Towel dry it only. Don't blow dry it. You can use Organics conditioner in your hair and S curl texturizer hair gel. Coat it as much as possible. Don't rinse out the conditioner. That's it. You can sport a really cute head band too if you want.
ellenamoniquenavarro 1 year ago
You'll learn to love the hair God gave you. STAY AWAY FROM products with: Beeswax, Mineral Oil and Petrolatum in them. Use oils, conditioner and moisturizers instead of grease. CUT DOWN ON: Saturated fats, sugar and dairy(very hard to do but possible). Take a multi-vitamin daily. Excellent book to buy as a reference: Texured Tresses by Diane Da Costa. Use glycerine in the summer to pull moisture into the hair. You will be fine, just give it time.:-)

Weewinkle7 2 years ago
any change since then? you are beautiful sis, no lie. one tip i can say is never comb your hair while its dry...and if your hair is hard then you may be using products with proteins in them. try to use more natural products until your hair gets longer...this video was made in april, how is your progress??
caliBornbEauty 2 years ago
Your not ugly, you are just using the WRONG PRODUCTS. Shea butter, coconut oil, carrot oil, are oils you should be using. Stop using a lot of water on your hair - it only dries it more. MOISTURE MOISTURE MOISTURE your hair with natural oils. Also DEEP CONDITIONING helps.

I can't tell how many men have complimented me on owning my own hair, my husband prefers me to be no other way, but it initially is about what I want, I don't get as many compliments as I used to ( it wasn't highly popular to see that many naturals where I'm from) I believe it is because there are more and more of us who rock our natural hair so it is almost becoming a norm, well that and wigs!
chinewmarie 2 years ago
getting to know me and not letting people (family & friends) get me down about what I wanted to do and what I was trying to achieve. When I went natural my hair look just like yours and actually it was shrunken, dry and very hard, now this was 18 years ago, when none of the you tubers were on here to give me any advice and the vast majority of information, sis the one thing I can tell you ( and no I let the others tell you about hair products, because mostly it will through trial and error) however, the one thing I learned about my natural 4c hairtype was that I learned how to be patient! it is a virtue ya know!

i kno this is vid is a bit old and dont kno if uve found anything yet but
i agree w/ jabrilla about cantu shea. i started w/ curl keeper by africas best bc i was really dry in the begin stages too
also dont comb/pick when out of shower or dry...use fingers as much as possible and allow to air dry -i only comb wet hair w/ gel to avoid frizz. also dont be afraid to rewet/cond in shower daily as needed
hope this helps :)

Singityrara 2 years ago
The shampoo and conditioner that i used and loved is by Always Natural and it has Indian Hemp in it. That has been great for me and has given me tons of growth. You can buy that at a hair store for about $4 each! Good luck, keep tryin :-)
jabrilla 2 years ago
Cantu Shea Butter Leave in Conditioning Cream is the best product I've discovered! It's about 5 dollars at Walmart or any hair store. It will def soften up your curls! Hopefully you are not still using that Aussie and Garnier stuff if it dries up your hair! As a natural sista, you have to become a label junkie. READ ALL LABELS. products that have laurel sulfate, mineral oil, petralatum, and a lot of alcohol products are very drying to your hair.
jabrilla 2 years ago
To make your hair softer and hold more moistured, use 1 parts vegatable glycerin and 2 parts water.
sugartastic1 2 years ago
I'd recommend vegetable glycerin mixed with water, 1 Tsp to 16 oz of water. I have 4b/c hair, it craves moisture. Keep your hair moisturized to avoid breakage. Avoid silicone ladden products , petrolatum and mineral oil. theses will clog your hair cuticles and stop moisture absorption. A good thing to base your product choices on is "If it's edible, it's safe." Remember, your body will be absorbing these ingredients. Extra virgin oil, from the grocers, is a great moisturising conditioner.
speerrituall1 2 years ago

Doesn't have to be the straight kind, you could get a kinky twist one?
tinyyuki 2 years ago
I have 4a-4c hair (I think) Just recently I tried out the vegetable glycerin, and water mix I also added a little vitamin e and EVOO (very little), I'm so used to having dry hair that when I sprayed it out the bottle I put to much it made my hair "overly moist". So a little goes a long way and it worked really good on my hair HTH and good luck.

Good luck!
Cookiec1973 2 years ago
Secondly; I have your exact hairtype. I wasn't to sure about a twa, so I braided my hair. I just stopped using chemicals all together and my hair does not itch anymore! What I used as shampoo; the vinegar method, 1 ounce of vinegar to 3 to 6 ounces of water, then rinse it out with lukewarm water. Condtioner; 1 egg, mixed with castor oil and aloe vera oil. I've also purchase an absolute hair MUST pure sheabutter. It really does wonders for my hair. I also recommend pure avocado oil!
Cookiec1973 2 years ago
First of all, stop putting yourself down. I know it's easy to do, if you already feel bad, but it will definitely not help you. I know it seems weird, but say to yourself out loud and tell yourself that you are beautiful, because you are. And I would DIE to have your figure!!! If you dress nice, you will definitely feel nice. Well, it works for me.
Cookiec1973 2 years ago
do not be discouraged, you are BEAUTIFUL.
Jalyse07 2 years ago

Good Luck.
kaysplay 2 years ago
try suave coconut i heard it is good for the hair. i also hear coconut oil.

Try adding oil to your conditioner..not the leave in.
maybe try Vo5 conditioner and opt out of shampoo.
Baking soda could clarify your hair
ACV is good also.
jessie1793 2 years ago

*sorry it sounds like a lot I was constantly experimenting*
jadedpoet82 2 years ago
First off you aren't ugly neither is your hair. I actually love how soft your hair looks. I actually used a lot of heavy products at your stage that weren't good for my hair but I liked the weighed down look. For a moisturized yet light looking look, I found co-washing with suave humectant conditioner or any cheapo and using glycerin, water and jojoba oil baggied on my head at night sometimes helped keep in moisture. Also carefree curl gold with cream of nature's lemongrass/rosemary leave-in.
jadedpoet82 2 years ago 2
I find that co washing with V05 moisture milks works well. I only use a non sulfate shampoo once a week. Dampen hair in AM then apply Cantu Shea leave in...then seal in with an oil...combo of shea butter, coconut oil, veg glycering and drop of honey is good..to seal in moisture. I style w/Blue IC Fantasia...then just a tiny bit of Long Aid Gel..helps keep it moist during the day. I think picking your hair when its dry causes breakage. I only pick after applying Cantu. Your TWA looks cute:)
spoonks1 2 years ago
I am so glad you posted this because I also feel that no one has my hair texture or know what to do with my hair.
Also drink lots of water. And take vitamins about 2000 mg of Biotin Hair grows from the inside out. My 4b/4c twa is in braids right now. I just needed a break from it as well. I will let you know how it goes. For that spot on the side, the same thing happened to me. Lol. See a dermatologist. They will prescribe soothing oil and it really works.
MBT1981 2 years ago
I have 4c as well. Its so intense. You buy all these products and nothing works. I am glad I'm not the only one. lol - thanks i felt so alone with these natural hairstyles most of which i need a relaxer to achieve. I feel the same way. lol
MBT1981 2 years ago
Your fro is very cute on you! Don't get frustrated, you'll learn what your hair likes as times goes on. Try spritzing your hair with water/glycerine throughout the day. That may help with themoisture issue. I've found that my 4b hair love protein and thrives well with it. Try headbands, flowers, scarves and clips, nice earrings etc - you'll start feeling better. Once you get to know your hair, you're going to really fall in love with it! trust me!

I have ur hair type but i havent found a good regimen yet. all i can say is never give up
LOJETE85 2 years ago
(cont.) If you want to use natural oil, start with something LIGHT and work your way up in terms of heaviness. When my TWA was <2" I could get away with using jojoba or sweet almond oil. At 3" I had to switch to olive and coconut oil. If you go with shea butter BE CAREFUL because it can be too heavy. Even at my length (about 8") I can't use it straight because my 4b/4c strands are very fine. I have to whip it with something (usually oil and/or conditioner).
Good luck! You can do this!
LBellatrix 2 years ago
First off: You are SOOO NOT UGLY! And your hair looks about right in terms of length.
You don't have to do anything to the TWA aside from keeping it soft. Rinsing every morning should work IF you can find something that will seal the moisture in. For me that was plain OIL. When I first went natural it was before all this stuff was online so I was using Moisture Max, and then Pink Oil when it got to your length. I never had any issues with dryness. Yes, mineral oil is bad...but it WORKED.
LBellatrix 2 years ago
hi,greetings from the u.k!

Cantu shea butter leave in conditioner it is only 4.99 you will not regret buying this

Actually its known that the average persons hair grows at about an half an inch per month. You said you had 3 inches in six months right, then i guess its growing at normal rate. For inspiration I looked at this user photo album
from user Sera2544
her hair is really long now but if you look at the pics her hair started out cut low.
gforceroy 2 years ago
I have 4b hair and I use a leave-in conditioner (cantu repair cream) and layer on top with coconut oil to seal in the moisture.
Elucence moisture balancing conditioner is also a really good conditioner/leave-in.
I apply leave-in in the morning and at night before I go to sleep. I also make a deep conditioner (video tutorial on my channel) that I apply once a week.
I also co-wash daily and shampoo once a week with non-sulfate shampoo. Hope this helps :)

you are not ugly!!....and I remember feeling the same way!..you are my hair twin!!..don't give up..what has worked best for me in keeping moisture is natural raw shea butter and CANTU shea butter leave in conditioner...and twists are your best friend..twist at night and then twist out, you will begin to love it! gives it texture!

But I'm learning to not pay attention to that and love myself and my hair more.
nickaraye 2 years ago
here's how i retain moisture. it might work well for you especially since you rinse your hair everyday anyway. wash 'n go w/ cantu shea butter leave-in; when i get home from work, i apply either whipped shea butter, or mixture of coconut oil & a 7-in-1 oil; put on plastic cap, bonnet, then tie scarf. in the a.m. if i don't rinse [w/ cool water to reduce frizz], i simply spritz with veg glyc & water mixture to wake up the curls, then gently pick out w/ pick or fingers.

con't....
5. seal in moisture with oils - try castor oil, coconut oil, extra virgin oiive oil, or African's Best Herbal oil.
--wear a plastic cap for overnight or for 15-30 min to keep hair moist. HTH
prettybrowneyescutie 2 years ago
Oh yea try to avoid product with petroleum and mineral oil. this has helped me so much. I am a 4a/4b and my hair require so much moisture.
prettybrowneyescutie 2 years ago
Here are some suggestion for you
1. get a sls free shampoo - sls drys out natural hair. Burt Bees, Giovanne (found at Walmart or Walgreens) Hair One (found at Sally's)
2. Deep Conditioner after ever shampoo (Queen Helene Cholesterol or Lakeir Cholesterol both can be found at Walgreen)
3. Cowash 2-3x a wk - Suave Humectant Conditioner, Suave Naturals, or VO5.
4. Moisturized Daily - try Olive Oil Hair Moisturizer (Walmart), and of the Organics hair moisturizer (Walgreens or CVS), or Shea Butter.
prettybrowneyescutie 2 years ago
Also, I think Design Essentials is great; especially if you have a TWA. Their line really defines your curls and makes the hair EXTREMELY soft...you won't be able to stop touching it! If you don't want to purchase the full package, I'd at least recommend Wave By Design Define & Shine 2N1 Lotion.

How long is your hair?I also have 4c...what a curse! LOL!I hate mine
sexanddiamonds 2 years ago
I've been natural for 2 years now. I recently got it cut again. But before I cut it (2 weeks ago) it was bob-length. I thought it would be easier having my hair short (I never did the BC, I just wore out my relaxer). All I have to say is, wash-n-go doesn't work for my 4c hair.
UhnointedFaithful1 2 years ago 2
4 c not a curse..lol!!!....we should be encouraging each other not joining in the negatvity : ).....4c's just have to find the right products...Im a 4c too and its a struggle some days and wonderful others!!
napturalserenity 2 years ago
I think you're 4c, same as me. Our hair is really...really curly/kinky and forever needs moisture. Shea butter has become my best friend. For the past four or so months, I've been using Africa's Best Organics Shea Butter. It has no mineral oil or petroleum. It's a creme and it does a great job moisturizing and softening my hair.
UhnointedFaithful1 2 years ago
I have 4 b/c hair use mayo and egg for a deep conditioner leave it in for 30mins. I also like extra virgin olive oil just a small drop keeps my hair moist. Shampoo and conditioner I use is Paul mitchell green tea treatment. Only was your hair once a week so you do not loose natural oils the scalp produces. Sleep with a satin scarf or bonet and you sould be fine.
ballout501 2 years ago
First off u r not ugly. I believe we have the same hair texture and Cantu Shea butter moisturizes and softens my hair. I can understand where u r coming from but it all takes time to get to know your hair.
dell1nell 2 years ago
cantu shea butter leave-in conditioning repair cream IS the bomb, ain't it? i love my wash 'n go results. it gives my hair some sheen, doesn't weigh it down, defines curls and softens. another tip for a more polished wash 'n go is to use cool water to rinse. that reduces frizz big time.
expertonmyself 2 years ago
you and your hair is so pretty, i love the twa look on you... but the two products i recommend are 1 good ol' shea butter and 2 glycerin and water mix, o yeah and only co wash ur hair and if u want to shampoo try a sulfate free moisturizing shampoo and only shampoo once a month at the least, wait longer if u can... good luck and much love
MzjuiCii88 2 years ago
You and I went natural about the same time and have the same length and texture 4b/c. I ROCK MY TWA! And love it... I practice the curly girl method and now I have so much moisture. Hit me up lets talk. Bye the way you are beautiful n dont for get it!!!!!
PreciousnLaw 2 years ago

Kaytube19 2 years ago
yeah i have started the cg method too. i saw results the first day but i'm not too sure about it. its harder cuz i have a twa
LuvinNappy 2 years ago
Yeah, I haven't complete;y committed to the cg method myself, but they say you have to give the cg method some time to see results. I plan on starting it when my hair is longer, but for right now I use Creme of Nature Ultra Moisturizing shampoo when I shampoo (its pretty good), I use John Frieda's Frizz Ease Curly Conditioner which is really great, and I use Elasta QP Mango Butter Moisturizer, which does have cone's but works very well in my hair (the only negative is it leaves an after smell).
Kaytube19 2 years ago
(cont.)....oh yeah, the after smell is not bad, but I am just really sensitive and particular to certain scents. My hair is also short, but its long enough to be braided and from the looks, I think you can get braids too (just be careful). Trust me I know how it feels to have short hair esp. if you never had hair so short before, but keep going & don't give-up (it will grow)!!!
Kaytube19 2 years ago

CurlFurly 2 years ago
you can try the baking soda deep treatment. youtube it and see how it's done. all you do is add 1/2 cup of baking soda to about a cup of a moisturizing rinse out conditioner, apply it to your hair and sit with it under a plastic cap for 1-2 hours and rinse/cowash it out. the baking soda soaks up all the moisture from the conditioner and inserts it directly into the hair shaft and it leaves my 4a hair extremely soft so try that before you go and buy extra stuff :) hope i helped!
CurlFurly 2 years ago
A great moisturizer is distilled water and or Aloe vera gel and vegetable glycerine. Spray on your hair in the morning and at night and when ever it feels dry. Use a moisterizing conditioner instead of shampoo. Please check out RusticBeauty vids. She has hair like you, beautiful.
Peace & Abundant Blessings

your hair looks just like mine when i pick it out i have 4b.
