  • Belshep Could you pleased posting the english translation?? you wrote it one month ago

  • Thank you belshep, what a rare treat! Can't wait for English!

  • Such a nice guy. Polite, humble, always with a smile on the face. Danke!

  • My God if someone could add subtitles to this I will start to believe in humans again!

  • Awesome Richter speaks german:)

  • there is no sound is that possibly my computer (?)

  • @RueDuMilieu Yes, there is. It's alright with me.

  • One of the best..

  • someone should subtitle this gem... unfortunately I don't know german

  • @newFranzFerencLiszt I'll get around to posting the English translation

  • @belshep Yes please!

  • I've never known Slava but I terribly miss him...

  • I saw this beautiful Richter Portrait already in the 1970´s or early 80´s I am not quite sure but a long period before the Monsaingeon 'enigma'. Very interesting what he said about Mozart, pretty subjective but true: ' Ich habe doch den Schlüssel zu Mozart noch nicht gefunden, alles was er schreibt, ist schrecklich schwer, bei Haydn leicht!'

dann sagte er sinngemäß noch:' was ist das mit Mozart? [hält inne], keine Antwort'

Mozart was in fact a enigma for Richter but he didnt play him that bad!

  • Das ist ja großartig!!!

"Wissen sie was Neuhaus hat gesagt? Es ist wuuunderschön, was ergesagt hat. Mein Lehrer. Er hat gesagt: Jeder Künstler hat eine zweite Heimat. Also die Heimat, wo er geboren ist. Und die zweite Heimat ist ... Italien. --- ist wahr ... Naja... ... Aber's schön gesagt..."

    :D

  • really looking forward to the English translation...thank you

  • I cried, and I am 33.

  • At 24:00 he said that he feels at home in most places, except America, London, some Nordic countries and... Germany! Neuhaus said that every artist has Italy as a second fatherland... Richter said at 26:10 that he is half German, half Russian, and can have the best of these two worlds, as he had immense knowledge of both Russian and German culture... while he certainly was in love with French Art (and as we can see here, also with French wine!)

Thanks for posting this wonderful rare interview!

  • @pianopera

    Dear Erwin,

in France and the mediterranean countries, wine is an essential part of Culture: it is unconceivable to have a relaxed, educated and personal talk among friends without the inspiring company of a good wine! The more subtle and complex is the wine, more elevated the ideas! ;-)

Don't let the "anglo-saxon politically correct castrating attitude" ruin some of the most precious and pleasent moments in life!

  • @ermpp65 Deawr ermpp65,

Don't read my comment as a condemnation and treat me as a little boy, please! ;-)

I've been in Richter's situation quite often (in fact more fuddled, enjoying French delights a little too much) though not in Tours but in many other French places, and I treasure many of those inspired moments...

  • @pianopera

    Dear Erwin,

I know you are not precisely a schoolboy ;-) and I didn't have any doubt

that you are familiar with the pleasures of a good wine! …

I just didn’t want that people could get a wrong impression from your comment! Honestly, it sounded a bit sarcastic to me, and stereotypes are so easy to follow... Anyway, I’m sorry if I have overreacted, I’m probably a bit paranoid with conservatives now in power in my country!;-)

    Best wishes!

  • @ermpp65 Ok, cheers! ;-)

I was surprised to see and hear Richter in such a relaxed state, first time I saw this interview... it's a wonderful document, but maybe because of the combination of wine, the German language and the sometimes bad timing of Schaaf, I think the later interview of Monsaingeon shows a much more profound and interesting Richter, in terms of content and expressing his ideas and thoughts more clearly...

  • @pianopera >I think the later interview of Monsaingeon shows a much more profound and interesting Richter

If you remember his notebooks, Richter more than once makes unfavorable comments on the film and Johannes Schaaf himself.

  • @belshep ...The spirit of [red] wine!!! ;)))

  • A treasure!

  • Thanks for posting!
