  • damn, it should bailey wins the race,

if they had better drug test methode on 1997, i'm sure greene failed.

  • and greene was a cheat

  • great final...i think bailey is the fastest ever (in "top speed" ), but he often started bad (0-30 meters, he was very bad, you can see that on atlanta 96 final, if bailey starts better, i'm sure he could run in 9'65-9'60)

  • that´s why this guy, donovan bailey deserves a lot of credit,

i don´t remember any contest where he had made a good start, even when he broke the record,,9,84

hardly you see a sprinter increase his speed the way he used to.

  • Bossofalltime is exactly right. I was just about to say that.

Greene dominated this race. And nearly broke Bailey's WR in the process.

  • Bailey didn't start well.He never really started extremely well.He always relied on his closing and top end speed to win.He didn't start well in his 9.84.Maurice Greene was to fast for Bailey to start bad and win.Maurice is exactly what he says he is.He is the G.O.A.T.

  • Still holds the WR for 50m,that is what amazes me the most.

  • @t5239857289578947594 Carl Lewis had the same kind of style, that is,could accelerate well, don't you think?

  • @rhoomsy ummm, yes and no.I think overall carl had better acceleration(putting aside baileys 50m).Bailey had good top speed and that's where he would pass by most sprinters.

  • @t5239857289578947594 lol that is not the record any more. already greene broke it but it wasnt officialy counted

  • @fightjunge24 Green had the same time if I remember correctly, but it was never recognized as a world record. The time was 5.56.Anyway,Bruny Surin owns them both with a 50m(5.53) and 60m(6.38)world records. No one has run faster over these distances.

  • @t5239857289578947594 usain bolt 6.29 in berlin and that was even faster in 50 so someone did

  • @fightjunge24 You talking about split times,cause usain ain`t run 60m.

  • @t5239857289578947594 No one has run faster? Duh because no one has ever run those times!!! Bruny Surin doesn't have the world record int he 50 OR the 60m. The world record in the 50m is 5.56 held by Donovan Bailey and Maurice Greene and the world record in the 60m is 6.39 held by Greene alone. Surin NEVER ran a 5.53 50m. If he did that would be shown in the record books instead of 5.56. Get your facts straight please.

  • @EPizits Those times were recorded in non-IAAF World Record events. He still ran those times.

  • @t5239857289578947594 Those times for Bruny are split-times taken by the biomechanics team at the Seville 1999 World Championships.

  • Haha.

  • usain bolt could jog those times...

  • I wouldn't call it a jog. He'd certainly be putting in a good effort for 65-70m and then ease off, just like in his Beijing semi-final 9.85. Gotta respect these guys running so fast so often, making 9.9 the norm and running 9.8 every now and then. They paved the way for Bolt to do his thing, and Bolt will do the same for the next champion

  • could? he already had lmao....

    Zurich golden league 2008 100m - 9.83 jogged last 10m

    Beijing semi finals 100m 2008 - 9.85 jogged like 40m

    2009 Jamaican National Trials 100m - 9.86 jogged last 20m i think

  • Bailey had a bad start in the 1996 Olympics and still won...

  • Don't buy into the ''if he had a good start he'd run 9.65'' because its crap. Bailey had many good starts and didn't capitalise on them. He was not as complete as Greene who could win from anywhere: Good start, Bad start, etc

I admire Bailey much though, a real championship-performer.

  • In this race Bailey & Greene both recorded equal top speeds of 11.8m/s (Both had fastest 10m split-times of 0.85 which is 11.764m/s)

Career-wise, Greene's top speed was faster. He recorded several 0.82 10m split-times, compared to Bailey's one time 0.83 in the Atlanta Olympic Final 9.84.

  • Anyone saying that Bailey was gaining on Greene in this race is not watching it properly. The official split-times show that Greene was out ahead of Bailey to 10m, and Bailey closed the gap on Greene 10-40m. After that they ran level until 90m when Greene pulled ahead. You see it in the slow-mo....there's a gap, Bailey closes it, both run at the same maximum speed, and in the last 10m Greene puts a couple hundredths on him.

  • Man, white people. I wanna see some white people, lol.

  • In some of the older races whites was in finals !

  • Bailey was gaining on him..he had the higher top speed.

  • Too bad for Maurice Greene that the BALCO scandal happened. Once they started testing for THG, and the Clear Greene's performance on the track took a nose dive. He never came close to running those very fast times again after that.

  • If you are referring to 2002 & 2003 they didn't test for THG as they didn't know it existed. Greene's performances in those years were below the standards of previous years due to injury. He ran multiple sub-10s in 2004 and they were testing for THG then so go figure

  • This race was the passing of the torch to the next generation. Although I'm Canadian, MG was definately the superior sprinter compared to Bailey. Start, finish, and mental strength, Green had everything. he is the GOAT

  • Bailey's greatest weakness was his start....other than that, i would place him above green

  • Bailey smoked, and then fades into oblivion. Blame Canada.

  • Yeah i knew he was a cheater all along...may be able to run but you cant hide

  • MG really was the GOAT.

  • no matter the distance, bailey can't catch up wit greene

  • Fuck Maurice Green, he's a stupid fucking American.

LMAO he cheated for Christ's sake.

    Bailey > Roided up Americunt.

  • ah heck naw stop wit all dem bull comments.don`t u dare metion maurice greene name as a cheater. he`s the best ever and never failed a drug test ever.

  • i feel bad for the last place guy. he ran insanely fast (10.29) and he still got dusted.

  • Demonstrates the the quality of a world class field. Ray Stewart ran 9.96 and finished in the 1991 World Championship Final in Tokyo. Kim Collins ran 10.00 and also finished 6th, this time in 2004 Athens Olympic Games Final. Amazing depth !

  • baily is by FAR the better NATURAL athlete (long with bruny) on the track that day. like carl lewis and all the other american cheaters, greene juices!!! it's the american way- cheat!

  • carl lewis failed a drug test once!

  • where is the report? where did you read this? I believe you though... but where did you hear about this?

  • go to wikipedia type in carl lewis then read his life story its in there!

  • how do you know he was "natural"?? You don't know anything... The americans are not the only one cheating...

  • because i trained with him when i ran, and a relative of mine ran with bruny. you are right though, americans aren't the only one's who cheat. it's a global problem.

  • who the hell cares

  • Who cares? The people who keep overhyping Donovan Bailey's finishing speed that's who. Yeah it was awesome, but Greene was faster from 40-100m, as have been Gatlin, Powell, Gay

  • Bailey closed the gap on Greene from 20m to 40m and they were running evenly until 80m where Greene extended his lead slightly. Look closely at the replay and you can see it. Also, check the split-times

  • Ato donovan and maurice were all built what are u talkin about!???

  • You could tell Donovan was catching up to Maurice but wouldn't have enough space left in the race to catch him, then he started taking too long strides and fell off. He always had shitty starts though, gotta wonder what his 9.84 would have been with a decent get go.

  • Thats the technicality of sprinting. Bulky, strong athletes like Bailey usualy accelerate after 50-60ms because their mass prevents them from instant speed, but there strength comes on after. Slender athletes like Ato Bolden always start fast but don't have the strength to follow through. In very rare cases you get sprinters who are able to do both, like Flo Jo and Asafa Powell who can subsequently run extraordianry times

  • Agreed, though as far as FloJo goes I am of the belief that there was no way she was clean. She did have perfect stride technique though.

  • Exactly, she did have a perfect stride technique and physique, but yeah of course she wasn't clean. She needed that extra muscle to achieve sprinting perfection

  • Man, white people. I wanna see some white people, lol.

  • this was a great race, Frankie Fedricks is a legend

  • Powell needs a world or olympic gold medal for his resume. A few tidbits though as far as greatest 100m runners of all time. Powell has more sub 10 races in one season than Greene had in one season already. Powell has more sub 9.90 races than Greene already. Powell runs consistently faster times than Greene ever did. Powell is less injury prone than Greene. Powell did not get slower after the BALCO scandal like Greene did either.

  • lol

  • your idiot, Balco came out in 2003! Greene and Asafa ran the most sub 10's in 2004. Injury prone, Greene was as much injuried as Asafa has been at that same age. Face facts, Greene at that age is better than Asafa. Greene was facing better talent and was able to beat them all. 4 time world champion, only man to hold both 60/100m world title and world records at the same time. Asafa Powell world record 4 time world record holder, but NO TITLES!

  • not to mention Powell has been aided by wind more so than Greene ever was. All the ifs... if the wind was perfect for mo, if he wasn't injured, if this, if that. The fact is Mo was the best. Asafa won't ever amount to what Greene has done, ever.

  • Beautiful

  • YES BRUNY!!!i saw u at my track meet and at da banquet.....ur speech wuz gud

  • Greene was a drug cheat like all yanks Bailey kicked ass in his day as does Powell these days

  • Greene never was caught doping, just like Bailey didn't, Greene was 23 years old when he won his first world title, Bailey was about to turn 30 later that year and head to head, Greene owned Bailey

  • yeah Powell is kick ass, but how many championship does he own, probably as much as you, NOTHING. If Powell wants to be even considered to be mention with Greene or even Bailey for that matter, he's got to start winning titles NOW. Breaking and tying WR doesn't make you great, ask Leroy Burrell, he set the 100m WR twice and better the previous mark 3 times if you include when he ran 9.88 and lost to Lewis in the 91 Worlds but he always choke in the major championships

  • Hey Scubosh, what happen to Asafa, I thought he was kicking ass. As I said below. World Records are nice to have, eventually someone will break. No one can take away titles and Championship! That now 0-2 in major championship races. No Excuses!

  • i agree 88bigs88

  • Too bad for Maurice Greene that the BALCO scandal happened. Once they started testing for THG, and the Clear Greene's performance on the track took a nose dive. He never came close to running those very fast times again after BALCO.

  • MO is old he about 30-33 that is old for a srinter so get off him he was clean and you cant do anything about it so DONT HATE on the man.

  • your a sopomore and u run 11.3 . dude i was 13 and ran a 11.5

  • I thought I was good. I'm a sophomore in high school and I run an.11.3

  • SHUT THE FUCK UP

  • I can run the 100m in 13sec flat,can`t wait till i`m older

  • fastest-runners.piczo..com

  • Playing catch up is tough. Another horrible start from Donovan Bailey.

  • Bailey was not a good starter. Great acceleration from 30-70m is what usually put his competitors away, but Greene is from another planet when he's on his A-game. Just no breaking him down

  • tim montgomery then broke the world record later. ha. dang, i feel bad for michael march, he couldn't even compete with any of the other guys

  • the fall of donavan bailey

  • the rise of Maurice Greene
