Andrew Eldritch's protestations of non-gothness are non-convincing. There are many reasons for this. But one of the most compelling is the fact that he changed his surname to fucking "Eldritch".
Since the early 1990s, Eldritch has publicly rejected associations with the Goth subculture. He describes The Sisters of Mercy as humanist, modernist, and implies he wants nothing to do with Goth.
@anulafakes "Eldritch has publicly rejected associations with Goth subculture" yeah, except for, you know, taking all the goth kids' money when they buy his albums and band shirts.
Looks like Bartertown from "Thunderdome! Is Patricia a left or right handed Bass player;..I've seen her play with both? Maybe she is ambidextrous! Either way; she is bad ass hot!
I just heard this played in a clip for a Versace show from the early 1990's. It definitely seemed to add energy to the runway and the girls seemed more animated on the runway because of it. A cool track for sure!
@himmelstanzer At a gym I used to go to back in '92, they played the radio out of an old ghetto blaster and it was a relatively boring commercial station. One day I prepared a tape with this song on it and sneakily placed it in the tape deck during an ad break and flicked on the Sisters. Hardly anyone knew it but a lot of people were freaked out by how cool it was, it created a real buzz.
@chrisnoaro1 It really is an energetic song even with the operatic elements on it. It now is on my playlist and makes for a good walking-on-the-treadmill song.
Great song. Best album the Sisters of Mercy ever did. Can anyone tell me why Goths are so friggin' catty? What I have observed of this sub-culture is that everyone in it seems obsessed with proving that " I was a Goth before you were"
@omae24 Who knows. I've given up on trying to identify myself as anything. Now when I introduce myself: "Hi, I'm Sam and I am no paradigm for any sub-cultures. How do you do?"
Just heard this for the first time on the radio after someone requested it, Thought it was a recent song lol. Do they have any other songs as dramatic as this one?
@RibbonedRat I guess there just isn't a station or demand for it. To be honest I've never called and requested something like Sisters. A lot of the rock they play here (besides the obligatory "Classic Rock" channel) is shitty manufactured for radio type music - and I use that term generously. I guess c'est Arkansas for you.
7:13 - Patricia Morrison is looking at the rain coming down and thinking "Oh heck, it took me ages to backcomb this hair! What will become of it!" lol! Great song. Thanks for editing this so well. Still like some of the old Goth stuff. Don't think the Goth thing ever quite leaves you fully once you have been into it.

Bands like this aren't around anymore (apart from MAYBE DragonForce. which if you haven't, you should listen to THROUGH THE FIRE AND THE FLAMES, and listen to the guitar solos!) LONG LIVE ROCK AND ROLL
Eldritch is incredible. Writing awesome songs, hitting the top ten more than once and still keeping the band alive despite his words against medias and music industry... You know this guy really loves his job
@algerbraistj65 you can always smash their door in & then smash up their stereo, if they are real gangsters they wont call the police...then play acdc & really piss em off .
@67bones Hehe, they aint real Gangsters, they always go home for their spaghettie hoops on toast , funilly enough they like ACDC, '''sup whats da song you wuz playing jus now''' LOL
The only problem I ever had with this version of this song was that it was too short by half. By the time it gets to about the 8 min mark we were always in such a frenzy jumping around to it in the club we wanted it to go on all night. Still have never heard anything quite like it. This and Communards 11 min epic "Don't Leave Me This Way" were like going on extended journeys to another mental landscape without taking drugs to get there. Thanks for posting
@monkynmee57 EXCELLENT!! I concur!! I do so every remember both.. Communards and Sisters of Mercy in the 80.s... Living in Europe at the time, the CLUBS.. and the DANCE.. "ENDLESS!!" We were More than Alive and Wanted to FEEL IT back then!! :)
Wonderfully edited video, IDioGenesis. I am surprised you made it flow so well throughout 11 minutes of a song.
Excellent song. Sisters of Mercy, along with Siouxsie & the Banshees, Bauhaus, Nick Cave and The Cure, are the reasons why I respect goth rock at its peak. The second wave of goth rock (if you can even call it that) is way too emo for my taste. Even Marilyn Manson is barely gothic, rather than a shock rocker like Alice Cooper.
Great job porting the video for the song's extended version. Floodland was one of the best Albums ever. I feel a little sad about the splitting of A. Eldritch and P. Morrison in anger. In my youth she was the ultimate girl I wanted to be with. I still have forbidden fantasies when I see her. *Sigh*
I watch this tune and can't help but pity this generation. The Sisters of Mercy engaged "the great longing" then for something better in life; their music spoke to the soul. The generation now has no great longing or calling, so their music's passionless with no soul .

Building up my 80s playlist you realise how much variety there was - from late Punk, New Romantics, Disco, Goth, Rock, Electro - and the variety of people singing. These days it all seems so boring and sterile, (apart from a few exceptions) and totally concerend with looks. I think we were a lot more tolerant and interesting in the 80s!

Excellent editing. I like how you got it spot on as the bassist was mouthing the lyrics. Ten minutes of this music is pure ecstasy.

Kick ass masterpiece. You can punch somebody in the face with this sound. Catches your attention and grabs you by the throat.
