  • Ian Eagle was a great movie...

  • hey isn't that Ian Eagle, the Voice of the NBA's Nets and the voiceover of NBA Action?

  • @kimv020887 Yup! :)

  • @WREYtube okay. I just saw him on YouTube doing NFL games. hey WREYTube, isn't this from the return of NFL on CBS? By the way, I love watching old school CBS, FOX, NBC and ESPN NFL intros!!!!

  • @kimv020887 Yup! This was the first week in the return of the NFL on CBS... i like all of the old school intros better than most of today's... I am glad that Fox had continues to retain their classic theme! :)

  • @WREYtube hey WREYTube, how about this: NBC should leave the Faith Hill intro only during the regular seasons and play the 1995-1997 NFL on NBC theme during the Super Bowl while CBS should only leave the "Posthumous Zone" theme during the regular seasons and play the 1992-1993 theme during the Super Bowl? What do you think of my suggestion?

  • @WREYtube and by the way, I can imagine the 1995-1997 "NFL on NBC" theme being played as the theme song of the Oscars.

  • @WREYtube, do you have the NFL Today from 1998, when they returned on the air?

  • @richie137 Because the Dolphins kicked off at 4:15, I didn't record the one at before the 1:00 kickoffs, but I did get the segment that aired between 4-4:15... :)

  • @myaccount00000001 well you have to take into consideration that there were not all of these advanced graphics software programs that we have. Computers were not that advanced back then like they are today

  • Imagine being a rookie QB and having your first NFL start come against a legend like Dan Marino, I cant even fathom the amount of pressure Peyton was under for this game

  • Titanic hahaha

  • I miss this theme

  • Music from Titanic..SWEET

  • Wreytube, I no longer see your video of the intershow for this game posted on youtube. It featured a commercial of Domino's pizza, and then when the broadcast returned to the RCA Dome, the CBS sports voiceover said "the NFL on CBS is brought to you by...." It featured the NFL on CBS logo lighting up on the screen and moving out the way for the sponsors. If possible, could you reupload it?

  • @bayou432 Its still up... its under the title 'CBS Football Break September 1998'... :)

  • @WREYtube Thanks, sorry I made the mistake of saying "intershow"--at the time I was typing my previous message, I was also thinkng about the other video you posted that features the close of the Jaguars Bears game, which I know you labeled that as "intershow" which I know is still up. Anyway, for some reason, I had trouble finding the commercial break video, but thanks to your reply, I now see it.

  • So much better than today's intro! And wow, Ian Eagle hasn't changed a bit.

  • Ian Eagle sounds like an '80s Top Gun ripoff....

  • @ScottyA222 first SUNDAY on CBS, first game to kickoff on network that Sunday was Seahawks@Eagles

  • September 6, 1998

  • wow. Peyton Manning had no idea at the time he was going to be one of the best quarterbacks ever

  • On that day a legend's career officially began.

  • 2001-2002 was the best theme for CBS...

  • @ThePatriots010304 Have to agree with ya there. It's just our luck there are only 4 or 5 clips of it on YouTube.

  • @ScottyA222 Manning's career has coincided with the CBS/AFC era (first game on the Peacock Network was the first Manning Bowl)

  • @chrisuncleahmad

The first game of NBC's Sunday Night Package was the 2006 Kickoff Game between Pittsburgh and Miami.

NBC had the NFL's AFC TV package until 1997. CBS had the NFC TV package until 1993.

Now, it's Fox and CBS with the Sunday package. Times have changed.

  • Thanks for uploading, I miss the older AFC on CBS! Do you have the old copyright bumper that CBS used from 1998-2002? I love it, it is so epic

  • @ScottyA222 Not to mention a Marino-Manning matchup... If Peyton makes it to the end of his contract and retires, the league will have had 33 straight seasons of either Dan Marino or Peyton Manning (or both) QBing... I can't think of another pair of QBs who played against one another whose careers from beginning of one to the end of the other would have spanned as many seasons... :)

  • Does anyone out there have the opening for the first NFL Today upon CBS's return to football in '98?

  • the 98 season---the scorebug had the CBS eye sit in a gray box located above the score bug, rather than the CBS eye being embedded in the background as can be found in many other games later on in the season. Did the change in the scorebug coincide with the changes to the intro? On a side note, I remember the Saints played your Fins down there on Thanksgiving weekend that year. you all blew us out and Ditka's post-game press conference lasted less than 30 seconds!

  • @bayou432 I think it changed fairly early in the season, when they also shortened the vamps they used when doing sponsor plugs... I also have that Saints-Dolphins intro from 1998 loaded on my channel, with some trivia about that game in the description... That game was a whole lot better turnout for Miami than the disastrous 2nd half of the 09 Game... :)

  • Roman/Greek coliseum. The camera does not have an uninterrupted transition focusing on the CBS sports words and logo, along with when the stars/fireballs hit the NFL logo on the field. Also, instead of going above the wall after the stars hit the NFL on CBS logo to get to the footage of the real stadium, the camera goes through the tunnel located behind the field goal post? Do you know when CBS changed this? Also, I see in highlights of ESPN NFL primetime that alot of the CBS games early in

  • Thanksgiving game (remember that hilarious coin toss dispute with Jerome Bettis starting to say "heads" but not completing the word and then immediately saying "tails" and the toss resulted in tails, referee Phil Luckett declared the Lions the winner and they went straight down the field to kick the game winning field). I noticed that the intro to this game is slightly different in that there is no audio of the broadcasts of those game clips showing on the banners in that "rotunda" of the

  • WREYtube, as a Saints fan living in south Louisiana, I did not watch much of the NFL on CBS when it returned in 1998 with the AFC package. Both of the saints home games vs AFC that year (Patriots and the Bills) were blacked out (which was customary for most home games until all the bandwagon fans showed up in 2006, and there is now a waiting list for season tickets so all home games are shown locally). I think the first time I watched a CBS broadcast that year was the Steelers Lions

  • Peyton Manning and Dan Marino=the greatest of all time if we are only talking QUARTERBACKS. Let me make that quite clear

  • @RoyalTebowDoom Agreed! Although, its hard to quantify greatness across positions and eras... One that has gotten lost as Marino's records have fallen is that in the mid 80s, the rules allowed more contact downfield... Everyone knew what the Dolphins were going to do and few could slow it and none could stop it.... that's one of the reasons why Marino beat the previous TD record... by 12!!! It was fun to be a Dolfan... hope they return to competence soon! :)

  • cbs should bring this intro and theme back....here it had been carried over from 1992...personally i liked the 80s game intros the best...

  • Do you have footage of the 1999 games? Those two were simply great.

  • @WREYTube Do you have an intro for "The NFL Today" from September 1998?

  • Ha...the Titanic theme at the start...can't get more 1998 than that

  • @TUNDRAStrt Paramount released that movie, and their parent Viacom would later buy CBS

  • Ha...the Titanic theme....

  • Mark May... before he started riding USCs cock on ESPN every saturday

  • Look, Mark May before he became an ESPN douche with a bias against non-BCS conference teams.

  • And Peyton was never heard from again...

  • @kylespeicher Didn't do much in the NFL. He just has 2 superbowl appearances, 1 superbowl ring, and is a 4 time NFL MVP. LOL.

  • @mytimton Don't forget a superbowl mvp award, but then again who doesn't have those, right?

  • @T3KN3O I KNOW lol

  • 1998 graphics were great

  • I like today's cbs theme, but this theme is CLASSIC!!!

  • they change everything in 2003

  • @sacman1222 I realize they changed "everything" in 2003. I was only asking about those specific changes I mentioned in the middle of the '98 season. When I said I started watching the NFL on CBS in November, I meant November of 1998. And by the way, there were many other changes made from the '98 to the '03 seasons.

  • I notice that the intro of this game (going through the Roman/Greek Coliseum) is slightly different from what was used later in the season, in that the radio/TV broadcasts of the game clips shown on the banners are not used, and there is no continuous transition of the camera in front of the CBS Sports logo that rotates around the statue. Also, they show different angles when the stars hit the NFL shield and when they reach the NFL on CBS logo, the camera goes through the tunnel rather than

  • @bayou432 up above the NFL on CBS logo to show the real stadium of the game. Does anyone know exactly when they changed this? I didn't watch much of the NFL on CBS till starting around November, so I am not familiar with this exact sequence. Also, I notice the scorebugs used early in the season had the CBS eye sit in a grey box above the scorebug rather than being embedded in its background. When did they make this change?

  • Mark May should have stayed at CBS. I don't know why he defected to go to East Coast biased ESPN. I can't stand him now on ESPN always playing favorites to the USC Trojans.

  • Iam Eagle still one of my favorite announcers. He actually cares and doesn't force a fake reaction. My Brother remembers this game he is a Peyton die hard. Thanks for the intro. I miss this CBS intro and the music. R.I.P. RCA Dome aka Hoosier Dome.

  • That Manning guy would turn out decent.

  • I like the CBS mike flags in this video, much better than the ones they have now. Also, Ian Eagle looks like McLovin.

  • Comment removed

  • @rjpsuh06 CBS still uses those mic flags for their college sports coverage. Not sure why they stopped using them for their NFL coverage.

  • Ah... this Manning fella won't make it. PSYCHE!
