@collectivesigh Bike envy here too! But I think the seat recommendation was made with good intentions - it does look like the seat is a little high. You don't typically want your leg to be fully extended either, as that can mess with your pedal stroke.
But you're right - it is the owner's choice, and she may well be more comfortable with that saddle height due to her shoes, her physique, or her preferences. We're only observers. Of a lovely lady and one hell of a nice bike.
I hope Grant is paying this lady a commission. This is totally a commercial. Anyway, the seat does look too high, but the rider tends to know her comfort and preferences better than us critics. As for the creepy ppl making creepy comments, well, i guess this is par for the course with internet videos, but seriously: get a grip.
@letsgorideabike1 it does seem a tad high, your leg is quite straight but difficult to tell with such a small sample. Have to see if your hips rock but i like a higher seat height for whatever reason, my friend is always bugging me to lower my seat.
@letsgorideabike1 I would have to concur with jetpilotjack. The angle on your knee is practically fully extended during the bottom of the pedal stroke when it should be more like ~30 degrees. If your hips rock at ALL when your pedaling your seat is too high.
Saddle height is perfect, your hips are not rocking.
I've always put my saddle up as high as it will go comfortably, rode the bike for 3 or so miles then moved it down 1/2 an inch till my hips don't rock from side to side.
That's a really nice looking bike you have there and as long as it's looked after (which anyone buying a custom made bike would do anyway) it will last you a long time.
A classy bike for a classy lady. Looks great. I'm a guy and I wouldn't be ashamed of riding a Betty Foy around even if it is considered a 'girl's' bike in the U.S.
I have a Brooks saddle as well, but I don't use it for commuting because it stains my pants. Is there some trick to prevent that or do I just have an odd saddle?
Wow, you are adorable! Its a beautiful bike! I just partially restored a late '40s Raleigh 4-speed. Built 650b wheels for it, and got a late '70s mavic crankset to go on my Phil Wood bottom bracket. Still to come - a dynamo lighting system.
It was really wonderful to see you enjoying your bike so much! Your outfit, too was great with your little red shoes- very cute! I can see you put some effort into it and had fun. I really appreciate my own bicycle oriented life and it's just nice to see other people getting into it and enjoying life. Very cool that you went to the expense of a pair of fine Honjo's! At some point, it you might consider a hub generated lighting system. That is really ultra wonderful. Have fun and enjoy!
What is the brand/model of your mirror?
hazendragonsnack 5 months ago
@hazendragonsnack I got the mirror from Rivendell and it was called simply German Mirror. They may still have it on their website. I love it!

Riv bikes are really nice, but way out of my price range. I'll have to stick to Surly, another great bike.

Wow, love your mixte, so graceful and full of character. I'm envious and can definitely see why she such a pleasure to ride.

You look so much like Roma Downey in Touched By an Angel in this clip, especially riding that beautiful bicycle. Yes. Definately an Angel's bicycle.

I love that you Google "mixte" or "gears," and Sheldon's site is still number 1 or 2.

Great ride! Do you often wear a skirt while cycling?
I suppose that's what mixtes are for?

Awsome! Old school cyclists would love a Rivendell. I ride a Surly (the poor mans' Rivendell) :-)

Really enjoyed your commentary and you are the lucky owner of a lovely bike, but I agree with jack - lower your saddle a bit. At least try it ;0)

Move your seat down 1 inch

@jetpilotjack - No, I will not move my seat down one bit. I know more about my bike fit and comfort than a random internet guy.

@jetpilotjack - There's nothing out there that says one can't ankle a bit through the pedal stroke.

She is very cute and has a beautiful body, a quality that is particularly noticeable when she is riding away from you. Nice bike, too.

It is a mixte. A variation of the usual split top tube, but still a mixte. Check out Sheldon Brown's glossary.
