I have owned yamaha's for the last 5 yrs. The MotifES8 (not EX) pianos sound and feel better than the NordEX that I just bought (and am starting to regret). So far, as a pianist (as opposed to a keyboardist), its all about Yamaha.
@b3baby I'm a Nord lover and mainly I use vintage tones (Rhodes, Wurli, Hammond B3 samples), but I find myself at a loss for a good piano sound and feel on my Nord Electro. I agree..Yamaha is best for piano...but since I use the piano sample maybe once per gig with added external reverb...plus the fact that I'm kinda poor means I'll have to deal with it for now lol
All you need is a Motif XS 8. It's so easy to get to different sounds and edit and use performance mode and record, why buy more unless you just want to. You really don't need to.
I have not found a keyboard and sounds better then the full eighty eight weighted motif Yamaha XS. Pianos, Rhodes, Wurlitzer, strings, sax, drums. bass. guitars...and the Performance Mode are all fantastic. I've worked singles gigs with just the Yamaha mostly in the performance mode and get incredible responses. The ability to move from sound to sound is also incredibly fast. All of the major keyboard manufactures have very nice models but I'm completely sold on the Motif.
You can download new sounds in the Nords and the Motif, so I'm not sure which sounds you're referring too. But yes I've played all of these Keyboards and the Motif XS has the best (in the box) sounds, editing features, arpeggiators, recording features, access to sounds and that incredible performance mode and TOUCH.
I've always liked the Korg too and Roland makes nice keys BUT right now for my purpose, the Motif XS is the best out there right now. The downside? It's heavy!
I'm Nord Electro 2 owner and my friend has Motif XS6. We compared them and XS6 owner say that Motif sound seems little flat after hearing Nord sound. Also he has Kurzweil PC3x and say that many sounds is better than XS6 (piano, orchestra, some synth..) But XS is best synth "all in one" and I very like it sound.
@mihmus can you explain to me what you do to get such a good piano sound out of your NE2 because I'm really dissatisfied with them! Are you using anything external? What kind of amps do you use? What EQ settings / Clav pickup settings do you use? And also which sample? Thanks - that would help a lot
Hi! I use with my NE2r external reverb from Alesis Nanoverb - not best effect processor, but very good for price. Feeling of playing piano with reverb much more better, but I add little Low and cut High on EQ for more big, full sound. And in the Presence section I select low-mid (250-300) and move Amount near +4 maybe +6. It add to sound more strength and concreteness. Of course pianos from NS is better, but for live perfomances may be better "Steinway model D mono". Try and send me message!
@tvseal0001 I upload to my channel video from live performance. I play on Yamaha Clavinova but with sound from my NordElectroRack2. So you can hear sound of NE2 piano, rhodes and wurlitzer if you want. ;)
@mihmus cool thanks man. so in your honest opinion, how is the action on the stage 88 compared to other dp's in its price range. I know the sounds on it can't be beat, but just the action alone is really important to me. Is it something that I would get used to over time and love or the other way around. I am mostly a piano player.
I never play on Nord Stage. I know only that NS88 has Fatar weighted keyboard (not balanced, just weighted I think). As for me Nord Piano is better choice for you ! ;) See details on official web site and demo videos here on youtube.
So you did a MIDI connection for the Motif piano sound? I heard the Nord library sampled some great piano sounds including a Yamaha C7 Grand piano. Try that?
I'm longing for both of these keyboards since a year ago. I mean exactly like the video. A Nord Stage (EX preferably) and a Yamaha Motif XS7. dude may i have both of em?

Nord Stage completely owns Motif in some sections.Piano, organs, electric pianos, clavinets...
They are totally different instruments.
Nord Stage has few sounds that are superior in their own genre.
Motif has LOADS of sounds. Some are good some are less good.

Haven't you tested Kurzweils or Nords? Cause some sounds should be better on them.
And don't get me wrong. Motif is an amazing instrument!

@jobu0101 I have a 700GX, nice semi-weighted keys, but doesn't compare to the sound of my nord.

somebody who owns a nord stage + motif xs has no need for a RD700GX ;)
