Hopesfall has had a huge influence on my musical creativity.. I can't believe I just started listening to Envy. if you haven't heard of them I suggest you get on that!.
just because you don't understand something doesn't mean it's shit. this band opened up the floodgates for so many hardcore bands which eventually evolved in to metalcore, which morphed with death metal to make deathcore and on and on.
if linkin park is as in-depth as your musical taste gets, you need to start digging. eating what mainstream media feeds you is a surefire way of being a mindless robot zombie shitbag with no personal taste or originality.
It's not that I don't understand it, it's that I think it's shit, get over it dickhead.
If you don't like that then you're a pretty stupid human being for not being able to understand that other human beings will have a different point of view to you.
Finally, if you think Linkin Park is the only music I listen to you're as fucktarded as this band, that ironically enough are as mainstream as your mothers pussy.
@Laquaticus Ohhh, the faggot card. zing! insta-win. grats. when you stop being mad, maybe in 6 months or whatever, remember The Locust. Here, I'll give you a few more just because I care. Psyopus The Dillinger Escape Plan The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza Scarlet Poison The Well Norma Jean (the first album) Between The Buried and Me Explosions in the Sky The Fall of Troy The Number 12 Looks Like You get big son, you'll look back and say "that faggot on youtube was right!". No, I'm not gay
@mhaneline Actually, in about 6 months I'll have more than likely forgotten of yours, this bands and all the bands you mentioned's meaningless existences.
Unless you're willing to attempt to troll me for 6 months, of course. ;]
Seriously, stop giving me the name of musicians that I'm not going to check out...
You couldn't even answer my questions about why you're being so retarded, so I'm not exactly gonna take listening advice from an ignorant, am I? That would be ironic.
@Laquaticus then you should definitely check out some of the bands i listed. mike patton worked with dillinger escape plan on some stuff. he did vocals on it and it's amazing. what do deftones and mike patton have in common? screaming of course!
Is grateful to the guy who used to work at, the new sadly closed, CD Warehouse in Ealing, for playing this in the shop one day..I was transfixed by one of the greatest pieces of music I had ever heard...this was it..or else I might never have found Hopesfall.
The fact that he improv'd the end of the song with that little solo is fucking awesome. The original song is great but they went with a bang by changing that last part. I would say it's a little bit flanger/chorus with a lot of delay to make it sound resonant.
good musicians evolve, you guys who knock Hopesfall don't understand that. Their music was better than most of the scene music out now. They never got the credit they deserved.
I understand that if a band goes from a particular genre that appeals to a demography, and then changes their style completely, it's considered evolution. But fuck you for being generalizing everyone who doesn't like post-TSY are music mongrels.
I, for one, loved what they were up until A Types. After TSY, they put out some okay music, but it was not the old Hopesfall everyone grew up with and loved.
Change causes a lot of reactions, one of these is dislike, and sometimes hatred.
And because of that, you get haters, like the numerous amounts of people who have commented on the numerous amounts of Hopesfall videos. I can't say I like their newer stuff, but I can say I love their older, more hardcore stuff better.
It's a difference in musical taste, not out and out ignorance. In the end, you're the one who looks like an idiot, GoochF3st, for assuming what you did.
people like holyshroud-- if you have any appreciation/passion for music/art then hopesfall is a quality fucking band. after 'satellite years' they issued a statement saying that they could care less what they "sound" like as long as they are making valuable music. and precisely that is what they are doing. open your fucking mind and appreciate what your eardrums are picking up on. ps, they opened just like this in chicago a few years back and caught me by surprise. amazing. love 'em.
the talent left when all of the members except for jay decided to leave. They got a bunch of new fucking idiots who ruined everything about that band because of their 'style of music' fuck that and fuck everything they've ever done after the satellite years.
Yeah that stuff was like 6-9 years ago. Sadley nobody sings like this anymore. Hopesfall is 1 of a kind. Magnetic North is a great cd. Better than A-types. Its called progress. How about we reconize the talent and not expect the same sound all the time. Hardcore to Softcore=Still Hopesfall. Great music. All of it...
this band will always be a major influence in my life. All the guys were amazing, including Jay....some of you make it out like he sucks, when he's one of the best vocalist I know.
All of the members except for the singer, Jay, quit at the same time. He brought in a new crew of people to play, but after just a few months, they all quit as well. I think he's going to form a new band with a different name now. I'm not sure if he's difficult to work with, or what.. :p
i actually completely agree...The Satellite Years and No Wings To Speak Of (EP) are in my top 5 favorite cds of all time
i heard about them from a friend, he gave me both those cd's and i fell in love...i looked em up about a month ago on myspace to see if they had any new stuff and to see if they had any shows coming up and...well that ruined my day.
hopesfall going corporate was one of the worst decisions in music history.
They never ever went "corporate"; no major label ever. They were on Trustkill since 'The Satellite Years'. Chad and Ryan left and they got some other guys for 'A Types' and 'Magnetic North'. They were completely different because Ryan wrote most everything prior to that('The Satellite Years, 'No Wings to Speak Of', and 'The Frailty of Words'). I still respect them as one of the most original and influential hardcore bands ever.
The fact is....hopesfall clearly wants to be the "new" HUM...Which isn't bad thing at all since they are probably .hopesfall biggest influence (go listen to "The Canon" from Magnetic North...it's a complete rip off of HUM's "Little Dipper"
I love their old stuff...wasn't crazy about A-Types cuz the music was bland...Magnetic North is cool tho. But at least they aspire to be a GOOD band.
old hopesfall is one of the best bands of the universe. what the hell happened to them, now all their shit is verse-chorus-verse. it never used to be like that, they totally sold out for no reason and COMPLETELY abandonded their old sound.
awesome... i love this band... tho i hate using the word "hardcore"... all descrimination and genre's aside this band and album was one of the best musical efforts ever
yeaH i remember the first time i saw that video... awesome ... in that time "melodic- harcore" was the hit... and then i saw they in 2005 and something change in scene and people... awful.. i still love hopesfall anyways.. they are some of the first influences i have in the hxc scene.. 2001. great times
I can't believe how on-point and tight the musicianship in this performance is. Was it recorded right after they had finished Satellite Years? Great back-ups, too.
will the old .hopesfall. ever come back or did they go all Avenged Sevenfold and decided not to sceam anymore...I mean I did love A Types but hot half as much as The Satellite Years
I was actually just thinking about this today, I think they will keep their new sound, I just can't see them reverting back to the old sound. If you watch some live footage of them shortly before releasing A Types, Jay was barely screaming at shows anyway.
thats balls because he had one of the most enjoyable screaming voices...and the more raw sound (to me) beats out anything overdone in the studio (like The Chariot's "Everything Is Alive..." is a perfect example of raw sound) but I mean he does have a great singing voice. I don't know, all bands have phases of trying new sounds. some are great like the Poison The Well's transition, other just flop like Less Than Jake but hey so l,ong as thy don't break up over something retarded ill be happy.
I'm kind of surprised they haven't broken up considering how many band members have left over the years. I heard the new drummer already left and the original drummer came back.
To the Avenged comment. Avenged Sevenfold actuatley went all Hopesfall. A-types came out around Oct. 2004 and City of Evil didn't come out til 2005. To all those bashing hopesfall, you guys have to accept that they've changed. The melodic-hardcore scene was just that....a scene. Scenes come and go and we watched it disappear before our eyes. Only lingering ghosts remain.
The Frailty of Words and No Wings to Speak Of were pretty good albums too. this was back when hopesfall was still sticking to their Christian roots and Doug Venable was still the singer of that band.
I think The Frailty of Words and No Wings to Speak of are the best albums I've ever heard of any band. I'm not that enthousiastic about a few songs on The Satellite Years, but Only the Clouds and The Bending are just amazing.

@mhaneline Ask me where I stated that I give a fuck about who/what is mainstream?
You started talkin' about that shit, faggot, not me.
I couldn't give 2 shits about what mainstream is, but you obviously do.
Maybe you're a little sensitive about it?
It's OK, FfaF fans are a little sensitive about everything.
Anyway, I won't be listening to your shitty little band "The Locust".
If I wanted "The Locust" I'd play GoW.
I WILL however go toke a spliff and listen to dirty dubstep.
kthx.
