  • Wonderful playing and this is the first I am actually listening to Mandolin Shrinivas even though I have heard a lot about his skills since a time. The rest of the instrumentalists were also amazing.

  • its kaapi raaga....

  • i got my first taste of zakir hussein and ravi shankar, etc. after listening to Derek Trucks and how it effected his music so greatly. then after listening to John Mclaughlin it all came together. shakti lead me to Srinivas who is an absolute genius.

  • yes kapi

  • Yes it is Kapi

  • SUPERB PERFORMANCE BY YOUNG ARTIST !

  • The raga is Kapi

  • Excellent God Bless him.

  • just got back from seeing him in NJ today... one of the most ecstatic performances I have ever seen!

  • haha, he threw in the blues at 0;35

  • My I know which raaga it is...what keerthana...please update the information. thanks for posts.

  • @srikanthyes The first song is "mee valla" by thyagaraja. It's in kaapi raagam. one of my favourites!

  • music born in thanjavur..........i ma realy proved i ma born & live in thanjavur........srnivas sir is great........very nice played by t.r.g uncle.............booth are rocking........ kasiviswanathan

  • @kasivishu sir , music is universal. not restricted to Tanjore or Madurai .

  • Hát, ez felsőfok ! Szinte már hihetetlen !

    Egyszerűen grandiózus !

  • Bueatiful Kapi in the Begining. Great Bhavam. Awesome performemce. All though they are playing together, it looked its Mridangam Vs. Tavil :) Great Video!!

    Thankx

  • basically, I cannot stop watching this. bliss!

  • The tavil dude starts jamming real hard at 7:45

  • I wonder if this could be done on guitar

  • It is done on guitar. Srivinas (the mando player) tours with John McLaughlin Gray (guitar) and Zakir Ali Hussein (tabla) as "Shakti Remembered"...astonishing and a must-see.

Srivinas is without doubt one of the finest mando players in the world, and Hussein is the greatest living percussionist in probably any genre-- you get the feeling that the guy could play for Led Zeppelin, Miles Davis, any Irish session, or carnatic music, all with equal aplomb.

  • Dereck trucks! does it

  • you couldnt possibly fit more beautiful instruments on that stage, amazing!

  • so captivating.

  • Heavenly .. pure bliss this...

Could someone please advise which Raga this is? Many Thanks!

  • 2nd one is Gaanamoorthy

    Ist I think is Kaapi.

  • thx so much !!

  • @bbsarav the first one is indeed kapi. the kruthi is goes something like this - "mee valla guna dosha memi Sri Rama na valla ne gaani" by the great Thyagaraja.

  • @bbsarav It is indeed Kapi and the krithi is "Mee valli guna dosha" by saint tyagaraja

  • @bbsarav

This is Thygaraja Keerthana- Mee Vall Guna Dosham in Kapi Raga

  • @pratopathak

bbsarav is right. the first is a composition by tyagaraja, meevalla guna dosha.

  • Absolutely amazing!! Fantastic! Hari Bol!!

  • wow, i love the dissonant harmonies. they make them so stable.

  • do you have any more from this concert? great video! some raga alapana or swaras would be great

  • fantastatic

    thanks

    from france - aix-en-provence

  • Amazing!!

  • AMazing performence especially how tavil and mridangam were kind of competing to play their best. Mr. Srinivas also playing marvelously as usual. thank you uploader such a great viseo.. 8) :)

  • awesome video thanks uploader.. and srinivas is just impeccable.. srinivas is to mandolin as satch is to guitar

  • thats a horrible comparison. srinivas is beyond peers.

  • So this is the man Derek Trucks got his slide guitar Ideas from. He was right in saying this guy makes it sound like he's playing a fretless insturment. Sounds good.

  • I love Ganamoorthey when Shrinivas plays it!

  • Last 25 seconds of tavil and mridangam was electrifying.

  • Excellent...

  • Meevalla Gunadoshamemi SreeRaama

    Thyagaraja Krithi

    Raag: Kappi

    Taal: Khandachappu

    Marvellous performance!!!

  • anyone know the thalam for the first song?

  • I think it is khandachapu

  • yep, kanda chapu

  • I just wish they would have played this song at a slightly slower tempo. It would have been that much better.

  • @guitarguy1381 : I completely agree with ya.

  • Excellent, would you have the rest of this concert?? If so how can I get it!??

  • It is Mee Valla in Raga Kapi followed by Ganamurthe in Raga Ganamurthi. Thank you for the wonderful video :)
