Its a great review but i wouldn't call it a thumb ramp, it's gimping. A thumb ramp ramps up to prevent the thumb moving forward, i think! LIke the spyderco ATR. THats a real thumb ramp.
The Spyderco ATR's feature is actually called a "Cobra Hood" by Spyderco. Jimping (not gimping) is the cut-outs in the back, you are correct.. a Thumbramp would probably be only when the spine angled upwards from the handle like a Spyderco Endura.
Kingpin is not made up. Bull pivot is the style of pin. It's the knife's kingpin. It doesn't matter what style of pin it is because the main pin is the kingpin.
If anyone is interested, I just got a brand new Strider AR. Its the newest model with the contoured G10 handles and single screw bead blasted pocket clip. If anyone is interested just PM me.
That's what folding knives do. That's why if you're going to actually use the thing don't pay a lot of money for it. They're really designed for collectors, not users. So you won't often find a folding knife of this style that will withstand moderate usage as well as hard use. Most assume for the price these knives are heavy duty, but they're not. The price merely reflects what the collectors are willing to pay for a knife.
I use knives, I don't put them in cases nor on shelves. They don't get used in a case nor on a shelf. If you were to use these you would be introduced the wear & tear caused by the leverage of rough use. More use + more wear & tear. Stabbing, chucking, twisting & prying put a lot of leverage on the handle, joint & kingpin. So you end up with a blade and no handle. This why most people carry a solid fixed blade.
I know the tolerances of the materials, joint's and fasteners. A kingpin is a pin that's the main pin. It's the most important pin because without that pin the device would not hold, nor be reinforced. The things in the frame that hold it together. Most of them are threaded so they screw, therefore they are commonly known as screws. Larger pins (threaded or not) are known as bolts. Whatever, you don't agree. You won't subject this knife to rough use anyway. Argument is futile.
you don't need to explain what a "kingpin" is, I'm fully aware you're referring to the pivot screw. I was just laughing at the dumb name you made up. on Striders it's called a 'bull pivot'.
if you had any clue, you'd know Strider offers a no questions asked warranty on all their knives. what makes you think I have a need to baby any Strider?
visit bladeforums or knifeforums and educate yourself a bit. actually buy and use a Strider before you share your "expertise".
It's not made up. I can't believe you've never heard the term Kingpin before. King as in main. The thing about warrantys... they're bullshit. Anyone who has the resources to persue the company on grounds of fraud wouldn't bother. They will just buy a new knife. It's not worth the time, money nor hassle.
I have items with lifetime warrantys and none of the mfgs replaced any of them. It's all a game, a hustle. They didn't ask questions they just played ring around the phonie.
@PopcornCoolie I've never heard Strider's bull pivot or any pivot pin on any knife referred to as a "kingpin" by an knife user or knife maker in all the forums I visit. Maybe you could provide some kind of reference as to where and whom that term originates from, other than yourself.
Most knife companies also have a close relationship with their customers through forums and there's no way they could refuse any warranty service without others hearing about it. The only one full of BS is you.
I wasn't happy. I was kind of disappointed when mine arrived. For the price I paid I expected a little more final fit and finish. It already looked used when I got it , very rough finishing job , scuffs , dings , scratches and tool marks all over it , it looked like it was assembled by the Sampsonite Gorilla. I sent back and they refunded my money. Then I wen't to Greg Lightfoot up in Canada and purchased one of his big heavy beefy customs for about the same price. Beautiful fit and finish
Good review dude, enjoyed it. However if I was going to carry this much weight and bulk I'd be going with a fixed blade. It is a great addition to a tactical collection though.
do you want to sell this knife? i would absolutly love to buy that knife

wow, you sound like an expert - how about giving some advice on driving a Ferrari, dating a supermodel, or any of the other stuff you've never done?

the "kingpin" huh? lolz. I might as well be talking to a wall.
like I said, just because you have a driving license, it doesn't mean you can give advice on driving a race car.
come back after you've actually used a Strider folder.
