My 2 cents: I play Fenders, Laklands and Stingrays. However, I've always liked the Spector Customs; they are low end models but offer great tone with a reasonable build. Based on your recordings I would have to say the Spector custom for what you are looking for. Don't be taken in by the sheen that most of these basses offer because you're going to need some mid presence in a live or recording situation. I also recommend trying out an HH or HS Stingray, then you'll have covered all the bases.
Very nice! My favorites were the Spectors. Both sounds great. But what if you change the strings and the pickups of your bass? Wouldn't it be cheaper and give a good result?
@gugaramone Pretty much a case of putting Rolls Royce motor into a Lada. I just don't want to do it and it wouldn't be cheaper, because it's still a very horrible bass - I don't really like how the B50 bass feels and sounds. That is why I'm buying the new bass. I would have to change the strings, hardware, pickups, electronics and the frets, which would easily cost me around 500€, and I can easily get a brand new awesome bass for that money.
Definitely the Spector, it's probably the one out of them all where the mids just sit well with me. Next to those I'd go for the Kingston , Jabba, or the Lakland 4401.
Run an aux track with some dirty/heavy comp going on and try to hear how much noise you were picking up. That's probably been the one pressing thought with some of these basses, especially with some that really opened up nicely >_> There were some basses I've tried in the past, and the excess in noise was just unbearable.
I think that the Jabba and the Corvette S4A sounded amazing!!!!!

Damn that Spector REX 4BS would sound awesome thru some midrange distortion, lots of string clunkiness

I'd get the Spector because it is cheaper and sounds a little better than the first 2.

Liar! The last Tokai was in a different key :P
I vote the Lakland 4464 and 4460, LTD Surveyor 400, and Warwick Legend 4.
Clanky and bright :D The Spector REX had a better balance IMO, with a fuller low end to go with the clank.

How you've got home so many basses to test? I would suggest getting a cheap bass and replacing the pickups.

@lagiator Who said I took them home? I just took my cables, laptop, interface, DI box and tuner to the shops. Took about an hour per shop.
