What a wonderful moment in time captured for everyone to enjoy over and over. A fantastic arrangement played a masterful harpist. I've heard Jerry Holland playing "Iggy and Squiggy" played on the fiddle, and I must say that this adaptation for the harp really gives it a voice and style unique to Brown...she really brings it to life and makes it her own. Very well done.
nice!! i love the harp and want to learn but im not that patient =] anyway 5 stars! oh and just a question um.. u look like ur maybe 16, how old are you?
WOW I am a Hip hop producer in the music industrty. I couldn't be further removed from this kind of music. BUT I heard some harps the other day, and decided to look it up on youtube. I am glad I did because this was a very beautiful and inspiring piece of music.
i would like to say, very amazing to see and hear SUCH AMAZEMENT, takes a very special kind of person to play the harp like u have two brains!!! it's just simply beautiful, amazing and phenomenal. keep doing this.
Cheyenne kindly played this for us after having run harp workshop day for local harpists. It was a spontaneous performance - when we uploaded it, it was one of the first youtube lever harp videos - hopefully it has inspired others to play - and upload their own playing.
Completely beautiful Celtica. Love the way these pieces are blended together, so subtle; the first begins abstract and then at 0:55 made a sweeter melody. Jerry Holland's Cape Breton piece comes in at 1:40(?), 'Iggy & Squiggy', and the last, 'Arthur's Seat' at 2:44 ?.
Hi pies2k7 and PearlGirlClary, clarsach is indeed how to spell it, and it is what many people in Scotland call a harp with levers or blades and gut or nylon strings. It is the Gaelic word for harp. But in a historical sense, the term clarsach referred to a smaller harp with metal strings and no levers or blades. These wire-strung harps are still played today and are the true owners of the title clarsach. So you can call it what you like because everyone uses different names! :-)
The 2nd tune, a reel called "Iggie and Squiggie", is by Jerry Holland, a Cape Breton fiddle player. It is found in his book, "Jerry Holland, the Second Collection", published by Cranford Publications. The last tune in this set is a traditional tune called 'Aurthur's Seat'. I got this tune from a great collection, the "Athole Collection", originally published in 1884 and containing 870 tunes. It has been reprinted by Balnain House, home of the Highland Music Trust.
Thanks for your comments and questions about the pieces! It's great to hear from you. Sorry I didn't write back sooner, I've only just made a youtube account...
So the first tune in this set is a jig, the 'Earl of Dunmore'. I found the music to this tune in one of the fantastic Taigh na Teud books - "The Fiddle Music of the Scottish Highlands, Ceol na Fidhle, Volumes 1 and 2".
I like your vid clip and I've rated it as awesome. Please check out my video clip of some very rare 1934 tobacco cards of old and ethnic musical instruments.
Cheyenne: Beautiful pieces and beautifully played!!, especially the Earl of Dunmore jig!!! I am an advanced beginner on lever harp, and would love to know where you found the sheet music to this jig, since I've had a rather difficult time locating it and had to settle for a rendition that is supposed to be played on the fiddle...Any info. you can provide on this would be great!
Gah...she is amazing. Srsly it's so beautiful. I have never seen that music instrument anywhere except fairy tales. lol

Pretty good. Could be a softer touch. Too much "room" in the production, or somehow more clarity is needed in the equipment or setup.

Wonderful, beautifully interpreted. I especially like the Earl of Dunmore - does anyone know where to get the sheet music for it???
