  • Nicely done and good idea for a game... I would add some more awesome music to it and maybe like cooler levels and then like a story that makes it even more then just pushing rocks.

  • how did you manage to control the soft body? did you use the plane inside it to push it around from the inside or did you use some complicated voodoo magic to make it work o_O

  • Great job man. You did something many blender game developers forget to do, bump mapping.

    This looks great. 5/5

  • can i download it if possible?

  • nice man but you need to make it more of a challenge add a few enemies or somthing make it harder

  • Do you use Bullet physics,

  • This+gameplay elements=awesome. Great idea, follow up on it!

  • good to see a full concept with eyecandy effects.

    congratulations !

  • Have you seen Burster? This could be ideal for your game to publish it over web site!

  • can yu please upload a small tutorial on how to make a softbody movable through logic?

  • @BlenderHelixAlpha I second this.

  • Looks like this would make an awesome iPhone game with the accelerometer and all. Maybe without the glsl materials though!

  • It would be nice to upload this to blendswap.

  • HOw do you control the softbody? O_o

  • @Wrmwolf add a actor.

  • could you email the game to me

  • Wow very nice game but how did you get particles in the game engine like the little embers that were in the start menu

  • Excellent use of the physics and rendering systems. The musical score is great, and the overall scene composition is spectacular. This game showcases all of the features users who are new to the Blender game engine should explore (i.e. triggers, UI development, level progression, etc.). Have you given any thought to reworking this project in tutorial form?

  • i can't download your game

  • @agentEE7 Yeah its well over a year old so I stopped hosting it.

  • please tell me exactly how you got that glow effect. what do you mean you made a plane with a halo texture?

  • @agentEE7 I have a plane inside the blob that tracks to the camera so it always facing it. and it has an alpha transparent texture that is just a radial gradient.

  • OH DUDE

It'd be even cooler if the rocks started to like fall apart, and add on to your size! :D

  • the link doesnt work :(

  • how did you make the start menu? can you make a tutorial?

  • which site?

  • @barl29

    oh yeah blender

  • when i try and play it its just black ?

  • @easystemz You may not have glsl, or you are running the wrong version of blender.

  • @sqorck i have alpha 2 and 2.49 i guess i will get glsl

  • Nice music what is it from?

  • That way really good. Love the Lava on the rock, and the Textures and how the ground has that shine to it. That looks like some playstation 3 shit to me, if not, it looks BETTER. More more more!

  • That's awesome, though, he ought to lose his heat after being out of the lava for so long.

  • Im not gonna lie that blob looks fantastic

  • how did you get the reflective surfaces to work in game?

  • really awesome job!!!!! i can see very few improvments XD really good, in one of the earlier comments you said that to get the glow you used a plane. what do you mean by that?

  • @qazwsx2541 I have my blob and a plane is parented to the blob and is always facing the camera. I just have a Z alpha dot texture on it.

  • @sqorck ok makes sense now

  • did you have to program any of this??i hope not cause i want blender to have this built in

  • @johnshepherdsg Nothing like this is "built in" but from the looks of this game no "programming" was used just the logic blocks. i have no clue how to do python, yet i have built a very successful company.

  • What a nice-looking game! Great music, and a simple idea too. Impressive Blender skillz. :)

  • Nice job. Original idea.

Did you parent a yellow light to the lava blob or did you find a way, perhaps GLSL, to get it to "glow"?

  • @Slip819 There is a light and a plane with a halo texture, together you get a nice glowing effect.

  • how did you get halo to work in game?

  • I downloaded it and it rocked but I can't finish the first level because the timer ran out at like 75-50% of the bar! Is that meant to happen?

  • @abobchicken No, it was a bug in older versions. I just haven't been working on this for almost a year.

  • Awesome! I was just wondering could you maybe do a tutorial on those GLSL textures and the bump maps im having trouble with those

  • @XAutomatedOwnerX Yup its coming! just keep an eye out on my other channel. it should be like the 4th tutorial or something when I get it up.

  • @sqorck

Are you still working on it because its been 2 weeks past the 4th

  • @XAutomatedOwnerX

I'm sorry for the confusion, when I said the 4th I meant the 4th tutorial. I would like to do Blocking and texturing tutorials, before I get in to normal mapping. I'm trying to get them done but I am having a hard time capturing the video, I need to find a way to record my screen and voice, but not drag down my laptop. so far nothing has worked.

  • @sqorck Ooooh ok Also i would suggest for a temporary screen recorder camtasia

  • its not your game i have seen someone else uploading it and he has an tutorial

  • Lol, it is my game and it is my other channels game too. Not trying make you look dumb or anything, just check in to stuff be for you go around accusing people of stealing.

  • @MultiPivotmasterdx It is his game :P

  • this is amazing, very original. looks really professional too : )

  • cool game

  • lava blobs cool but could use more movement in the texture, right now it is static, for a mini game like this to be appealing it needs detail even in the smallest of things.

P.s. put more obstacles but keep them natural looking, otherwise the game is good. I see potential in it.

  • Lava Blob FTW

  • 2:44 HES GONNA JUMP! hahaha nice game

  • how did you get the ground to be bumpy like that

  • What the!!! you changed the song!??!!,,, lol good thing i downloaded the video... i really love the song you used... :) so whenever i want to listen.. ahahha i just go to your video.. i really prefer that song .. well anyway i was checking your ember game... its really good.. one of the best blender games with cool effects

  • I didn't change it, are you sure they are the same video?

  • Hey sqork, whats the title of the song? its really nice to listen to.. and the exturing you did with the Ember is really kewl.. nice works btw :).. what method did you use on ember?... bumps and normals? i do know how to do those methods.. but does it work on the Game? when i start the Game... nothing happens... thanks for the reply :)

  • Realy cool graphic and physics. +++++ =)

  • nice bumpmap

  • the lava blob is B-E-A-U-tiful, but the other stuff could use some cleaning up

  • i wish you could control it by using the mouse

  • with a little more work, this could be a free download on psn. no money, but it would get your name out there.

also, that's some sexy normal mapping.

  • Really great work, this is amazing!!!!!!!!!

  • wow

  • Looks good... you gonna add more to the gameplay though??

  • nice, now all you need to do is make some more lvls. i cant w8 till im that good, i havent checked your account but if you dont do tuts for ppl you should!

  • That's actually kind of a neat little game idea. Might be better if it employed some type of critical thought though in getting to the rocks and such, perhaps even having to use the abilities of lava to get to them, such as burning ropes to activate elevators or harden into rock to activate switches. I love the little lava blob, the material is neat, but would be better if while the mesh moves the material mostly stays in place. Perhaps it would be possible with the texture dictated by an empty.

  • OoOo I Like The Music......Where Can I Get It?

  • 0_0 that is just AWESOME!!! youre so good!!!

  • so awesome

  • looks very realistic dud you make all that by ureself ?

  • Yup.

  • cool man ^^

  • cool.how did u make the lave all jelly like

  • Using the Soft Body dynamics in Blenders game engine.

  • nice man I did a test game like that when I was learning blender. Does anyone want to try it? It's called slime ball. You are a ball of slime and you go through obstacles to try and do stunts and stuff.

  • hey can you make a tutorial sq: can you do it on a smaller scale like can you make one on how u did the start level and help thing and a texure tutorial plzzzz

  • I am currently working with Blender 2.5, once that is released I will start making tutorials. I see it as pointless to make them right now due to the fact every thing is changing in 2.5.

  • ok thx i really need help making games

  • go download blender 2.9

  • 2.9? ORLY?

  • What an idea and looks fantastic .. great

  • Mastepiece. I like that kind of games. But starting menu, in my opinion isn't looking so cool)

  • This is pretty epic. I really like it!

  • amazing

    5 stars

  • it looks like a really borin game. but is really well made. u could have come up with a better iida. but u are really skilled at blender:)

  • Amazing shading. How did you get the soft body to glow. Did you use weight paint and radiosity settings?

  • radiosity.. in real time.. now that would be crazy.

No, it is a alpha plane parented to the blob.

  • AMAZING

  • How long does it take to learn Blender? If it's only 2 - 6 months i'll download it :P

  • With Blender you never are done learning, it can do everything. I have been using it for about 3 years and I still don't know how to use about 25% of the stuff. So it really depends on what you want to learn, if you want to just learn how to make games you could learn how to make a good basic game in a few months. It's a very open ended program.

  • how much time had you spend to make this game

  • Maybe 6 hours, I have a hard time staying focused in Blender. I'll find some thing new and go play with it till I find something new with that.

  • cool !!!!

  • You are a texture GOD! I;'ve only seen that higher quality stuff in retail games. 5 stars

  • I've seen lower quality textures in most retail games. :P

  • Well thanks, that's really nice to hear. :)

  • Lol. I'm working on a first person shooter in blender. I have a question. What is GLSL? I've heard a bunch about it but I don't know what it is.

  • It is a shader of sorts, it makes it so you can use the materials buttons for your textures. Also it lets you have real time shadows, normal mapping and a lot of other cool stuff.

  • Awesome.

  • this is amazing. This just got me even more excited about the blender game engine (which I didn't think was possible). I real like the feel of having a soft body as the playable character. I got even more excited when I played level 2! I love the reflections on that blob. NICE WORK.

  • nice hope you can fix the camera buig.

Also I think you should try to put in enimies. like maybe a rock monster you have to push in? I don't know this looks awesome though. Hope it turns out well.

    :)

  • I got the camera to work in the current version of Blender, So go check it out. I still only have level 1 and 2 done at the moment, but I think I'll continue to add levels to it.

  • I can't believe this is realtime...please could you tell me the characteristics of your PC...is your PC just very powerful, or is Blender game engine just so awesome....if the answer is this second I definitely might consider using blender finally.

  • It's a laptop and I got it a few years ago, it was top of the line back the but now it's super low end. It has 2g of ram, 32-bit vista, and Intel Centrino Core duo 1.83GHz.

  • Thank you very much for reply!

I feel I am closer to finally starting BGE...I mean programming a game with logical bricks and not with stupid boring monotone code? that sounds like the best thing ever...if only I could be sure about BGE's performance and abilities...I could decide for sure.

Anyway thanks again and keep an awesome job! :)

  • you, are my hero, this game has the greatest graphics i have EVER seen in a blender engine

  • clever! I like the idea of having a soft body as a moveable character.

  • a few more things

    1. i cant get any texture on my blender games with any setting... WHY!?

    2. what is the difference beween GLSL and the default texture setting?

    3. im hopefully getting a macbook pro with (i think) an Nvidia 9600M GT graphics card. do you know if this will run it well enough???

    Cheers!

  • 1. Look for youtube tutorials, they will show you the best way to do it for your game.

    2. GLSL(OpenGL) will let you use better shading, real time shadows, and normal mapping(Making 3d looking textures).

    3. All new cards should have Open GL.

  • thanx!

  • when i try putting game textures on it says something like my graphics card isnt good enough. how good a graphics card would u need to play a game with fancy textures like this?

  • You need to buy a Video Card that supports GLSL shading(look for it on the side/Back of the box when buying).

  • the textures are amazing!

  • The textures look so good! Well done.

  • I felt like eating that blob

  • the melted soft body is great :)

  • Best detail on a blender game i've seen

  • At this point there is only amature game makers playing with the engine, but some major developers are also...give it 2-3 years and they will release a killer game, with killer physics and killer graphics!

  • well i just downloaded it yesterday and i know how to liquify stuff and objects lol this could take a while

  • It will, I have been working in blender for 3-4 years and I still find new features every day.

  • im just got done downloading blender 2.49 because was inspired by you on making my own game

  • That's awesome, I wish you the best luck on making your game. I would love to see it when your done.

  • i had an idea for this game, dont care if ur interested. here it is anyway. your guy has a time limit before he becomes a rock himself, many lava pits to keep lava hot. oh yea, if u could, when u go in lava make your lava guy glow red hot without that charcoal. that'd be cool. thats just an idea there though. if you like please thank me lol.

  • I do like it, I have a time limit but I did think about having the lava reset. I might use that, Thanks.

  • how did you make the texture for the ball

  • I used some images of explosions and normal mapped it.

  • Ok, this may be a super simple question for some of you, but I need some help..

How do you make materials that emit lights, such as the lava blob. Most materials only have color and don't emit light like the one in the video. I know you can use radiosity, but that cant be rendered for moving objects, let alone in real time.

If someone could help, that would be great!! Thanks!

    And great video!

    Looks like a great game

  • As mentioned in one of the other comments, It was done by parenting a lamp to the ball and I also have a plane with an alpha image of a blurred spot for the 'Glow Effect'.

  • i love the mixture of soft bodies with bump mapping, gives a sweet effect!

  • omfg, my render aren't as good lokking as you real-time models.

  • Yeah I just thought of that the other day working on one of my new projects. I use to do be able to render stuff as good as this.

  • Awesome work! I can see this being an IPhone game...

  • nice game

im pissed my graphics card is too shitty for GLSL

  • What version of Blender have you used on this video? I have installed the 2.49 version and the game doesn´t work:

When I push the 'Start' button I begin in level 1. After few seconds, the game jumps to level 2. I can't do anything in this level because the camera have problems too.

  • yeah it only work with 2.48

  • Will you port it for 2.49 build?

  • Yes, if I can find a way.

  • very nice and very amazing. is there any way to not let the camera go out of the map?

  • There is but I don't know how to do it.

  • make the camera a dynamic actor and give it collision and use the camera actuator instead of parenting

    just a suggestion

  • Very nice game, everything is really cool :).

What does Ember come from ?

    Hungarian word ? Ember = Human ?.

  • like the little glowing ash that comes out of a fire.

  • aa. i see.

It has a good name too :).

  • Wow, very nice, graphics are amazing......im so glad i have this program

  • Music?

  • I don't remember its just so copy right free song.

  • Remember where you found it?

  • I found it on here with the audio swap thing

  • I have no words....... it's just.......... WOW. me and a friend of mine are both doing a game in blender as well

  • Im working on a 3rd person game.....its definately in progress

  • how do u make the ball look like they are rolling? finding it realy hard

  • This is soft body so I used force to move it.

  • when i tried using soft bodies on my character, it would not move. i had everything setup right and it worked when i switched it to rigid body, do you know what could be wrong? oh, and awesome game, definitely one of the best ive seen on youtube ^_^

  • Riged body and soft body work in different ways I don't remember what you have to do but it's like ROT or FORCE.

  • omfg it has bumpmap fuckin 5/5 that totaly amazing that like a reall game! if the music was in game then it's i think all done just more few levels and it's omfg done.

thats absolutely incredebly cool, plus you added music what fits, bumpmap, righ place light, nice textures, you're 2 in one game maker and designer that's totaly awesome :D

  • wow the graphics are absolutly amazing, im just getting into blender (started 2 days ago) and its nice to see some of the amazing things that can be done with it

  • the texturing is outstanding

  • I loved that, was it difficult to make?

  • Not super hard.

  • one question from me is. where can i find a script that can keep track of things (like in this case rocks melted) and use it to determine when to start loading the next level? this is really important. please respond asap. thanks bud

  • I used an INT Property, you can use Sensors and Actuators to control it.

  • ok. do u know of any tutorials?

  • not really but you might find one if you search google for "Blender INT Property TUT".

  • This is one of the most interesting blender games I've seen. clever graphical design as well. I love the idea of an alpha sprite for the glow. I'd have just used a bloom shader and killed the frame rate!

  • That is Awesome!! I love it. I love the way it glows.

  • so u made the lv. w/ normal mapping? also woud sculpting a plane into the lv. be low poly?

  • Yes.

My map is only 266 verts, so if you sculpt it very low res yes it could be.

  • This looks like one of those PSN or Arcade titles you find on consoles for like $10. That's pretty impressive, you just need to hone the concept. Or otherwise, it'll get pretty boring 10 levels in.

  • hey Sqorck..what has happened to this project? i havn't seen it on Blenderartists for a while?

  • I just got busy, but I am going to be making 3 High res game levels based off games out right now like Gears of War, Halo, and Mirrors Edge. I might demo them with Ember. They should be a good watch, I plan to do 1 a month. I am really trying to spend my time on stuff game developers are looking for.

  • Looks awesome. But it looks kinda high-poly. i didnt download it yet, so im not sure

  • AH, but that is the trick of normal mapping. :)

  • This is awesome. Great work, I'm subscribing!!!
