Some of you are not taking into consideration WWE offered Flair a non-wrestling role, which would cut his salary down immensely. No more ppv bonuses- nothing. An office job. Standard salary. Same as Arn, Dean, etc. Flair also wouldn't of been able to make outside deals with NASCAR, lottery, etc. Really can't blame him for leaving. Its been reported he makes almost 23K a month from TNA alone. Plus all the endorsement deals..so he's making far far FAR more money now then if he stayed with WWE.
@Cap420 Thank you. That's what I've been trying to tell these people. You know it really makes me sick how people jump on Flair w/o considering all of the facts. Flair's decision to got to TNA was a business decision. TNA allows him to accept endorsements deals. WWE would not. It's that simple.
@Cap420 Had Flair saved his money and made good, solid investments rather than piss it all away he could have made a regular salary with the WWE, lived comfortably for the rest of his life, and still be considered a legend in the wrestling industry. As it is now he's become a true joke and a liar as well as pretty much flat broke from all indication. Even if he is making that kind of money in TNA, it all gets taken immediately for his bottomless debt.
He was right, once his contract ended with WWE, Vince never came back with a new offer and it was something like 6 months so then TNA came along and Flair took their offer.
ha ha ha ha ric flair is a fucking idiot, he said he was so happy when wcw closed down, why the fuck did he work there then? and this interview says it all, I would never go to tna, 2 years later hes on tna, what a prick
He didn't really lie. If I remember correctly, when Flair did the Hogan Australian tour, he signed a contract with Hogan and Bischoff that basically stated that he was working for them, and when they signed with TNA, he was a part of that package with the 2 of them. So while he is signed with TNA, he didn't go there out of choice, but more so obligation to contracts with Hogan and Bischoff. That's the danger of not reading contracts when you're going through your 8th divorce!
@Kevorkian6 That´s bs. No contract could make anyone join a company just because he has a contract with someone who goes there afterwards. Wherever you heard that, it´s silly. He just needs money. And I´m glad he was inloyal to WWE since I prefer TNA. I just wish he would stick with a manager role instead of wrestling himself....
Never in wrestler years is only about one year in real life so technically Ric didn't lie. Same as him saying "This match with Shawn will be my last one ever" and turns around and now saying "I want one more shot at you Sting! Whoooo!" That's a man I can trust buddy
@Lurvy1963 flair needs the money. At the time of this itnerview, vince was giving him some, but once vince cut him off, he needed money. jake the snake said it best, " pro wrestlers are all prostitutes."
@TakerXL00 yes, flair has a bit of a drool from taking alot of head punishment and usualyl when he is in the ring he has some chewing gum which absrobs the spittle, but because of him taking repeated head punishment it left him with a tiny drool. You wouldnt notice it when he is speaking because he jsut spits it all out eerywhere but in an upclose interview you'll notice him spitting in a can.
"I've just joined TNA! WOO!" LOl! I guess he realized he REALLY needed a lot of money fast, but he also realized that his time with WWE was pretty much up, and there was nowhere else to go.
why is Ric Flair such a prick? why is he so pissed off? what the hell happened to him between 2001 and today that has changed his demeanor so drastically ? Everybody loves the larger than life character but this dude in the video is an unlike-able arrogant asshole who thinks someone owes him something
@Whyisthisthat Spot on! When he rips into Bret Hart, I find it hard to respect him. Bret Hart's a fucking legend! So is Ric Flair (supposedly, even though I really never liked his in-ring style and didn't find him all that entertaing, and his promos are basically once-you've-seen-a-few-seen-all). But Flair is gonna rip on him because, so he says, Bret "couldn't draw nearly as much money as I could" or some shit?? Uh-uh! Nooo, Flair. If you're gonna rip on someone, rip on Miz.
@Whyisthisthat And the Foley criticisms are only half-correct. Yes, Foley didn't use his full ability in WWE, and he kind of WAS a 'stuntman', so to speak. But if you look at his OLDER ECW shit, he was pretty fucking good. It's just too bad WWE didn't let him use his full ability while as Mankind and let him (or gave him) use that stupid sock.
Frankly, I have WAYY more respect for guys like Bret Hart and Kurt Angle than I will EVER Ric Flair. By the 1990s, Flair's "talent" in wrestling had all but gone to shit, and by the 2000s, it DID go to shit! So why was he still on all those years as a wrestling talent?? It was fucking pointless! He was riding on the coattails of his previous 'legendary' career facing greats like Harley Race and Dusty Rhodes. I mean, even the 1993 match for unification of the title against Sting he sucked in.
The only thing going for him by the '90s was his promo ability. Of course, if you LOVE guys who look kind of old with the worst type of blonde hair wearing ridiculous robes and flashy, expensive clothing to cover for his lack of ability, he's your guy. Me? I'm more of a wrestling fan. It's called PRO WRESTLING, not Pro Mic Skills. I mean, if the guy DOES have great mic skills in addition to wrestling ability, that's AWESOME. But just mic skills? GTFO
For those of you who say you can't knock Flair for going to TNA, I have to disagree. He completely contradicted himself by saying he would never go there. So WWE wouldn't take him back. How many sendoffs does this guy get? When is enough enough? Look at the images of an old, out of shape, beaten down, bloody Flair. All he's doing by hanging around is tarnishing his legacy. And I'm one of the biggest Ric Flair fans there is.
@JohnnyBakery I don't fault him for going to work for TNA because of the WWE, I fault him for going because of all the times he ran them down and said he wouldn't work for them. He has always been a hack, and a two face. He sand bagged other wrestlers opportunity to advance themselves because he was an insecure peace of shit, and a hack in the ring. Hart said it best, a 3 made up to look like a 10.
@Chad0980 Yeah before I found out the whole story behind why he signed with TNA, I did feel like he made a big hypocrite out of himself. But he had his reasons, and I kinda agree with Flair. Doesn't really matter, he's Ric freakin' Flair he can do whatever the hell he wants haha.
2008 was also the best year of my life mostly because The Dark Knight was released and it became the best film of the decade. So I feel you Ric. I'd love to travel back in time and relive 2008.
@Jb, Bs87,rojo. Jb. He worked for WWE at the time, so like he saud he's loyal to WWE. TNA wanted Flair, he still wanted to be a part of wrestling, price was right. He's now working for TNA! Bs87. Flair is the greatest wrestler of all time. Don't believe me, ask his coworkers. Hogan, HHH, Hbk, Piper, Jericho ect. rojo. WWE was the one's that forced Flair to retire, he didn't want to. He even called HBK, Hbk didn't care if he wrestled. They both are great friends, Flair was at HBk's HOF!
Its better to just read his book & watch his DVD & remember him as great as opposed to saying things like this & telling Shawn Michaels he'll be his last match & having it all be false. Shawn Michaels said he wouldnt wanna wrestle again because it would be disrespectful to 'Taker. Which is a nice way of saying he feels disrespected by Flair for going to TNA & wrestling. He doesnt understand that you can be in the business, in the spotlight, w/o wrestling, even a match here & there isnt needed.
@rojoshow13 He even gave HBK a belt buckle. He dosen't feel disrespected by Flair. HBK knew Flair didn't want to retire, but Vince wanted him to. You ever thought, TNA are the one's wanting him to wrestle. There are way more Flair fans then there are of you haters!
@ed2kou1 im pretty sure the reason y he went to TNA cuz he needed money cuz he got divorced again and if he didnt wrestle he wouldnt get as much money
@huskiepride1206 Ric loves wrestling, it's in his blood! He does alot of things, he has a deal with the North Carolina Lottery, he also has a deal with coca cola. I'm sure if he wanted to, he could do things to get by, but he still loves wrestling. Like I said, he didn't want to retire from WWE, they made him. When he retired from WWE, he was the ambassodor, behind the scenes, promoting the company, he was making good money. He still wanted to be in wrerstling, so he went to TNA.
@ed2kou1 I dont think my comment implied I hated Flair. I love Flair. I still think he outworks half the people in their prime today. I was just saying that when he makes remarks that are so definitive, it just makes him look bad...insincere I guess. I guess he was working for WWE at that time so he couldnt say, "sure Id love to work in TNA" but he coulda gave a cliche answer like" never say never" or "u nvr know what the future might bring" I love Flair, Im not a hater.
@rojoshow13 Saying Shawn felt disrespected by Flair, to me comes across as a slap at Flair. Cause it's not true, HBK and Flair are real good friends, he did call Shawn and asked if he cared, if he wrestled again. You aid it yourself, Flair worked for WWE at the time, so he probably never even thought about working for TNA. Plus Flair was always under the impression that WWE would call him for something, but they never did! Vince is a JACKASS. He may have all the money, but his wrestling SUCKS!
@ed2kou1 Well Vince may have wanted Flair to retire from wrestling, but he still had a contract after Wrestlemania to make appearances & be an ambassador. Flair asked for his release from that contract. Vince didnt push him away from the company. Then Flair went to do Hogans Australia tour, then TNA. He didnt want to be just an ambassador for Vince & WWE obviously. And Shawn is friends with him, but friends can still fel sleighted by eachother. Shawns comment about his retirement implied that
@rojoshow13 Shawn's commnet was about himself, not about Flair! Flair still wanted to be part of wrestling, not behind the scenes, that's why he wanted out of his contract with WWE
@ed2kou1 You're right, Flair and HBK are great friends in fact rumor has it that Flair was at Shawn's Hall of Fame induction ceremony. That's how close they are that Flair would walk back into the WWE, being a current TNA star, for his friend. I believe Shawn was even wearing the matching watch he and Flair have. And yeah Flair would have never gone to TNA but he felt disrespected when WWE didn't respond to his calls about coming back again. He waited six freakin' months too. Vince is stupid.
Ric Flair is a business player. Pure and simple. He goes where the money flows, because he has a lifestyle to maintain and bills to pay. ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!!!
Flair was all about tradition and was loyal to WCW for its final years. He talked about how great it was. Then in WWE, he talked about how awful WCW was because it was trendy to bash a former competitor. How much do you want to bet that Flair will return to WWE in 1-2 years and then say the same things he said about TNA that he did in 2008?
Once again, Flair shows how selfish he is. Maybe he's out of money and needed to go to TNA for that reason, even then he showed what a hypocrite he is with this interview
Give Flair a break people! His comments in this video is how he felt at that time. Can any of you honestly say you haven't ever changed your views on certain things? If you say no you're a liar.
Seriously how broke is Ric Flair?! I mean a guy of his age should be resting at home, not avoiding surgery to earn some extra money!! With all the respect to his wrestling skills, he must be a very stupid man who cant manage his life.
Hes not a hypocrite, shit just changes. If youre working for WWE, why would you talk about any plans to go to another company or talk them up? He handled the question, at the time, exactly the way a "loyal to the company" man like himself should. I bet if you ask him now, what are his "plans when his contract with TNA expires, when will he return to WWE" he will say "Never. TNA is the future of this sport, etc.. etc.." Flair didnt want to retire yet, and WWE didnt have use for him get over it.
im not a kiss up to anyone i thik it sucks he in tna cuz lets face it tna sucks n ric i respect ric for everything he done for the bussiness and always will no matter what hes so emotional i wish him all the best in the future wooooooooo!!
Well no matter how great TNA could be they still won't beat WWE because most people will just follow them cause of the name. Wrestle Mania's main event could be the great khali vs hornswoggle in the main event and the buys would still be a large number. Ratings don't mean the company is worse. I think TNA doesn;t need to go as far as WWE in order to be really good again.
Well i started watching WWF in 1997, but it got bad and i realized TNA was better.
I think 1 show is enough. A lot of people wouldn't have time to watch 2 shows.
The thing is TNA could be amazing, but aren;t doing that and so they get blamed more for it. WWE is expected to be pretty bad these days so they don't get crapped on much. WWE is too much of a waste of time and it's more expensive for a PPV so in a lot of ways i'd stick to TNA.
It's great TNA has no PG shit because than it'd be worse.
Right now TNA is not doing very well, but it's still better than the watered down crap WWE has. So many people gave up on WWE around 2005. They moved on to TNA,ROH and other companies.
ROH certainly has better wrestling than WWE and even TNA, but does it get the ratings? No, but oh well it's still got the better WRESTLING!
I think this clip pretty much proves 100% what kind of two-faced back stabbing piece of shit Ric Flair is and always has been... the nerve of him to speak bad things of real legends like Bret Hart & Ultimate Warrior...
I know we all have our flaws, but wow Flair is the king of being shameless spitting out his chaw into that water bottle, with a black eye because his daughter's boyfriend handed him his ass, talking about all the rats he slept with, getting drunk all night every night, crying about Vince and WWE and how great it is there only to lie and back stab them, making them look like cunts after that farewell they gave him only to go to TNA and to top it all off wearing that peach t-shirt in the process.
what a shame and what a lying prick....he ruined his reputation, and still gets arrested and in trouble like he is in his 20's...no wonder he got married 3 times and they all left him..... Ric Flair is not a man of his word, never was never will be....its actually very sad he got to this point.....he made millions and millions and is still poor in a sense that he still has to work and wrestle at his age.... thats a disgrace towards shawn michaels, in which he was suppose to retire PERIOD
@muratshawn I totally agree, have you seen this entire shoot interview? Your comment reminds me of the part when he said he owed the IRS almost 900,000 dollars and Vince lent him the money. It's so amazing when you think about it because he said back in the 80's he was paid between 5,000 and 6,000 dollars per match and wrestled almost everyday sometimes twice a day so it averaged out to about 2 million a year for just that decade. He couldn't even save 1% of that money. He'll be with TNA forever.
Anything can happen in wrestling. Noone ever thought McMahon would hire Bischoff and look what happened. If John Cena said he'd never work for TNA, I wouldn't put it past him to debut on Impact in the very near future (though it likely would never happen, I wouldn't exactly scoff at the idea either). It's been proven time and time again, if a guy says he'll never work for X, don't 100% believe him
@Fondrom I'm not even going to respond to your comment because you clearly did not understand what I was saying. If you did, you would not of responded to me saying what you did
I'm a huge NWA Flair fan so naturally I'm upset at hearing him say that the WWE is the greatest promotion in Wrestling and even more than Jim Crocket promotions. How could he even think that? When you think of Flair you think of NWA Ric Flair. That's what made him. He never fit in with the WWE and when he was with the WWE he was nothing more than a valet. At least if he was a manager it wouldn't be so bad, but he was only a valet to mop up HHH's sweat.
This was filmed when WWE was still promising to book him. He's right, they treated him great the last 6 months, but prior to that they abused his talents. WWE had promised to use Flair in some capacity because they knew he still had bills to pay. WWE renigged on their deal to book him appearances and blocked him from making other appearances. So he went to TNA and he's been treated better and used better than he has in decades. Which is why Flair is the happiest he's ever been in TNA.
@MrMoonGoon - you say wwe "abused his talents". Why don't you bring up how vince, stephanie and shane made ric love the business again. watch a wwe produced ric flair dvd and you'll have all your answers on how ric feels about wwe. Just so you know, your wrong.
Put yourself in rics shoes, he has all his ex wives taking his money And the company who he claims he is loyal to buried him on his way out, wanted him off tv for good and wasnt gonna pay him anymore. Plus he is a man whose career spans around 5 decades. He can still offer alot to the business, just not in the ring. What does he do when wwe doesnt call him, he packs his bags and goes elsewhere
i own this vid got it autographed by flair through highspots for my 27th bday.
why would you post this one little clip 2 plus years after making this?
. in the video the interviewer and flair seemed to be pretty friendly but to post this and possibly ruin your relationship forever with flair seems kind of low.
If I saw this time before he went to TNA, I would say that Flair truly is loyal... But now I truly have to wait the day when HBK will join TNA... Shawn Michaels said in one interview those same exactly words that he would never go to TNA and he is loyal to WWE... Hopefully Michaels is little bit smarter and more loyal than Flair.
@SystemFan20 Look at it this way. HBK could have gone to WCW when WWE (then wwf) released him in the late 90s early 2000s until WCW was dumped. But he didnt. He sat at home and waited until they called him back in and put him back in storylines until he had another decade of wrestling. He is loyal to the WWE. Flair really has no loyalties because hes been all over unlike HBK.
Actually...it is somewhat WWEs fault that he went to TNA. WWE wanted flair to leave so bad but he didnt want to. then they were negotiating making flair the GM of Raw...but instead they did the STUPID guest host shit and never called flair back....so he packed his bags and went to TNA
@TheHappynot Flair isn't so much a Hypocrite he's actually just flat Broke after getting divorced. And unfortunatly this is the only way he knows how to make money now.
Feature tv time, Panda Energy money, paid Orlando vacations, sixty plus and still as relevant as ever... Flair would have been stupid as shit HAD HE NOT WENT TO TNA! Everyone knows Vince buries guys on the way out, and Ric Flair's retirement was a colorful way of killing the Ric Flair character, or "old yeller" as they put it. I'd rather style and profile on tv and on the road, rather than sitting home to grow old and jerk off on the computer all day.
It amazes me that High Spots are the top money marks in the game with cash to drop on booking $30,000 names like Flair for interviews, yet their interviewer isn't worth a quarter. He stumbles over his words, doesn't sound confident in the questions he's asking, just plain out sucks. You could even see in Flair's eyes that he was being interviewed by a novice. Guys, get rid of him.
Flair sure did kill the legacy he had.

BSabres87 9 months ago 2
Its better to just read his book & watch his DVD & remember him as great as opposed to saying things like this & telling Shawn Michaels he'll be his last match & having it all be false. Shawn Michaels said he wouldnt wanna wrestle again because it would be disrespectful to 'Taker. Which is a nice way of saying he feels disrespected by Flair for going to TNA & wrestling. He doesnt understand that you can be in the business, in the spotlight, w/o wrestling, even a match here & there isnt needed.
rojoshow13 9 months ago
@rojoshow13 He even gave HBK a belt buckle. He dosen't feel disrespected by Flair. HBK knew Flair didn't want to retire, but Vince wanted him to. You ever thought, TNA are the one's wanting him to wrestle. There are way more Flair fans then there are of you haters!
ed2kou1 9 months ago
@ed2kou1 im pretty sure the reason y he went to TNA cuz he needed money cuz he got divorced again and if he didnt wrestle he wouldnt get as much money
huskiepride1206 9 months ago
@huskiepride1206 Ric loves wrestling, it's in his blood! He does alot of things, he has a deal with the North Carolina Lottery, he also has a deal with coca cola. I'm sure if he wanted to, he could do things to get by, but he still loves wrestling. Like I said, he didn't want to retire from WWE, they made him. When he retired from WWE, he was the ambassodor, behind the scenes, promoting the company, he was making good money. He still wanted to be in wrerstling, so he went to TNA.
ed2kou1 9 months ago
@ed2kou1 I dont think my comment implied I hated Flair. I love Flair. I still think he outworks half the people in their prime today. I was just saying that when he makes remarks that are so definitive, it just makes him look bad...insincere I guess. I guess he was working for WWE at that time so he couldnt say, "sure Id love to work in TNA" but he coulda gave a cliche answer like" never say never" or "u nvr know what the future might bring" I love Flair, Im not a hater.
rojoshow13 8 months ago
@rojoshow13 Saying Shawn felt disrespected by Flair, to me comes across as a slap at Flair. Cause it's not true, HBK and Flair are real good friends, he did call Shawn and asked if he cared, if he wrestled again. You aid it yourself, Flair worked for WWE at the time, so he probably never even thought about working for TNA. Plus Flair was always under the impression that WWE would call him for something, but they never did! Vince is a JACKASS. He may have all the money, but his wrestling SUCKS!
ed2kou1 8 months ago
@ed2kou1 Well Vince may have wanted Flair to retire from wrestling, but he still had a contract after Wrestlemania to make appearances & be an ambassador. Flair asked for his release from that contract. Vince didnt push him away from the company. Then Flair went to do Hogans Australia tour, then TNA. He didnt want to be just an ambassador for Vince & WWE obviously. And Shawn is friends with him, but friends can still fel sleighted by eachother. Shawns comment about his retirement implied that
rojoshow13 8 months ago
@rojoshow13 Shawn's commnet was about himself, not about Flair! Flair still wanted to be part of wrestling, not behind the scenes, that's why he wanted out of his contract with WWE
ed2kou1 8 months ago
@ed2kou1 You're right, Flair and HBK are great friends in fact rumor has it that Flair was at Shawn's Hall of Fame induction ceremony. That's how close they are that Flair would walk back into the WWE, being a current TNA star, for his friend. I believe Shawn was even wearing the matching watch he and Flair have. And yeah Flair would have never gone to TNA but he felt disrespected when WWE didn't respond to his calls about coming back again. He waited six freakin' months too. Vince is stupid.

Hes not a hypocrite, shit just changes. If youre working for WWE, why would you talk about any plans to go to another company or talk them up? He handled the question, at the time, exactly the way a "loyal to the company" man like himself should. I bet if you ask him now, what are his "plans when his contract with TNA expires, when will he return to WWE" he will say "Never. TNA is the future of this sport, etc.. etc.." Flair didnt want to retire yet, and WWE didnt have use for him get over it.

As a boss of a company yes, but as a fan i don't care that WWE has more fans. I think TNA has the better wrestling still.
spfan68 1 year ago
@bosnianpro1
Well no matter how great TNA could be they still won't beat WWE because most people will just follow them cause of the name. Wrestle Mania's main event could be the great khali vs hornswoggle in the main event and the buys would still be a large number. Ratings don't mean the company is worse. I think TNA doesn;t need to go as far as WWE in order to be really good again.
spfan68 1 year ago
@bosnianpro1
haha
I've watched a couple of TNA ppv's for free if i didn't feel like buying it, but wanted to see maybe one or two things on it.
spfan68 1 year ago
@bosnianpro1
WWE is too much of a waste of time and it's more expensive for a PPV so in a lot of ways i'd stick to TNA.
spfan68 1 year ago
@bosnianpro1
Yes because popularity means you're better?
I guess Justin Bieber is the best artist now lol
It's great TNA has no PG shit because than it'd be worse.
Right now TNA is not doing very well, but it's still better than the watered down crap WWE has. So many people gave up on WWE around 2005. They moved on to TNA,ROH and other companies.
ROH certainly has better wrestling than WWE and even TNA, but does it get the ratings? No, but oh well it's still got the better WRESTLING!

Ric Flair is not a man of his word, never was never will be....its actually very sad he got to this point.....he made millions and millions and is still poor in a sense that he still has to work and wrestle at his age.... thats a disgrace towards shawn michaels, in which he was suppose to retire PERIOD
muratshawn 1 year ago

At least if he was a manager it wouldn't be so bad, but he was only a valet to mop up HHH's sweat.
notta3d 1 year ago
@notta3d
Hes been in the WWE for 35 years kid, no one thinks of the NWA ric flair apart from you.
he never fit? i guess you started watching wrestling at 2006.
Look at his 1980-1996 stuff fag,
his stuff in the 2000's with evolution, edge, mick foley, rated rko, shawn michaels.
He was almost 60 at the 2000's, wwe dont wanna overuse a supposed to be retired wrestler too much, unlike TNA.
Fondrom 1 year ago

rko619wrestlingfan 1 year ago
This was filmed when WWE was still promising to book him. He's right, they treated him great the last 6 months, but prior to that they abused his talents. WWE had promised to use Flair in some capacity because they knew he still had bills to pay. WWE renigged on their deal to book him appearances and blocked him from making other appearances. So he went to TNA and he's been treated better and used better than he has in decades. Which is why Flair is the happiest he's ever been in TNA.
MrMoonGoon 1 year ago
@MrMoonGoon - you say wwe "abused his talents". Why don't you bring up how vince, stephanie and shane made ric love the business again. watch a wwe produced ric flair dvd and you'll have all your answers on how ric feels about wwe. Just so you know, your wrong.
truthsupplier1 1 year ago
Put yourself in rics shoes, he has all his ex wives taking his money And the company who he claims he is loyal to buried him on his way out, wanted him off tv for good and wasnt gonna pay him anymore. Plus he is a man whose career spans around 5 decades. He can still offer alot to the business, just not in the ring. What does he do when wwe doesnt call him, he packs his bags and goes elsewhere

SystemFan20 1 year ago
@SystemFan20 Look at it this way. HBK could have gone to WCW when WWE (then wwf) released him in the late 90s early 2000s until WCW was dumped. But he didnt. He sat at home and waited until they called him back in and put him back in storylines until he had another decade of wrestling. He is loyal to the WWE. Flair really has no loyalties because hes been all over unlike HBK.

Everyone knows Vince buries guys on the way out, and Ric Flair's retirement was a colorful way of killing the Ric Flair character, or "old yeller" as they put it.
