Oh and Im pretty sure you stayed in Mestre, outside Venice. Bad choice as it really is worth paying more to stay IN Venice to wake up to the views, but I can understand why your parents would choose to save money. Venice is far too crowded in July & August to walk around peacefully. I've been there 3 times at this time of the year. Oh when am I going to learn my lesson?
You flew with Ryanair. But why? :( lucky for you avoiding the rubbish Treviso airport while it is being refurbished and landed in the proper San Marco airport. What a coincidence...I have also just come back from a 7 day cruise departing from Venice! I was in Venice on 5th, 6th August, sailed on NCL Jade on 6th, went to Corfu, Santorini, Mykonos, & Olympia, arrived back at Venice on saturday 13th and spent the day walking around. My guess is you travelled on Royal Caribbean, huh?
@filthiestfish Yup! I went on the same dates! I was on the Royal Caribbean yeah and I saw the NCL Jade docked next to us. Also yeah Mestre was where we stayed, it was only for 2 nights and so was cheaper etc. But Venice was so nice, it was busy yeah but nice all the same.
@hannahismee We were going to go on that Royal Caribbean one! But my mum preferred the greek islands itinerary so we went with NCL and it was perfect! Except for the Greek islands which weren't that great but who cares when you're on the ship :p I think Venice is breathtaking the first time you see it, but I've gotten used to it as its been my third visit. We had to carry our luggage everywhere on sat as the lockers were full at Piazzale Roma, and the ones at the train station were shite.
