They said they want to get back to what happened to John, and the remake idea was Bungie's idea for after Reach, but they decided to let Halo go so the idea was scraped.

They confirmed that they are going back to the original storyline. And they couldn't make a Halo game in just 1 year anyway. Notice how it took 3 years for every Halo game, that was focused on the main storyline. In fact CE took about 5 years to develop because it wasn't entirely made by Bungie.
