To any one arguing for higher taxes why stop at 5% why not tax them at 100% imamgine how well that will help Buffet keep you down - he won't pay

Wait wait wait, This is old I know but Canadians coming down here for Healthcare? Maybe for the Leaders but the average Canadian loves their health care.
Lets play a game: If I have 1 million dollars income now, and ignoring the normal tax rate. I could earn an extra million dollars, but if I do so I will have 5% less of me second 1 million dollar, or $50,000 less. Does it make sense to :
A) stop working and only make a million dollars.
B) keep working and make 1.950 million dollars.
If you ask me I am going with option B.
Side note: What does someone do with that much money anyways. How much consumption does one person need.
Wow, you're like a fake character of ignorance or something. I feel like I should be hearing a laugh track as you talk. Oh my god a surtax DURING A RECESSION?!? What will the people who make over 1 million dollars every single year do with a small tax increase that brings their taxes not even CLOSE to what the highest tax rate has been for the super-rich?! They might have to not buy their new private jet, oh god no. Oh wait, with the surtax it's still not where taxes should be on the rich.
The fact that you automatically referred to free food as "Free McDonald's, Free Burger King" shows how truly stupid you are. People don't want that stuff for free. People want food for free. None of your rhetoric addresses the real issue: people earning over a million dollars a year are in no way suffering, and have benefited so much from American prosperity that they should submit a portion of those exceptional earnings for the betterment of the country that has done so well for them.

Yes, even if you are wealthy! When the masses don't have enough money to pay for necessities, they certainly don't have the money to purchase extras. Who will purchase American goods if only a few have all the money?
There are no jobs, because so few have any money to buy anything.
Working hard is not a way to get rich, being greedy and ruthless is.
So let's not print more money- but lets not tax those who have the most either- 5% on income over $1,000,000 hardly puts a strain on their budget. They already are not paying 16% social security on most of that money- I hear no solutions here- Don't print more money- don't take more from those who have it- Don't take a serious look on the 2 sides of balancing a budget- Make cuts where it makes sense but also increase revenue where it make sense- the same choices I make on my $25,000 income
You're a freaking idiot. People who make that kind of money have benefited from the largesse of this country, and on the backs of the workers they're so keen to lay off. Trust me, they're greedy enough that they'll keep working. Don't like the tax system? Well, run for office!

Canadians who get really sick or need high quality emergency care tend to come to America because America is among the best in the world for providing emergency care and superior medical technology. That's ridiculous. Canadians tend to stay in Canada when they get really sick or need high quality emergency care. Canada, like the US, has some of the best doctors and hospitals in the world. All Canadians get excellent care.

I see that sarcasm is lost on you...shame. With development of a society comes a greater sense of socalism, the desire to help the less fortunate members of society rather than stand with your foot on their throat in the gutter. This even at the price of a little less money in your own pocket.
Its actually rather pathetic how tainted the word socialism has become in your country, somehow inextricably linked with communism. This only perpetuates the greed of a priviliged minority. Some society..
I applaud your sense of idealism. Do you honestly believe that a given population would 'voluntarily' provide the necessary income to support necessary public services? If you dont want to pay tax and be part of society, go and live in the wilderness somewhere.
No matter what your profession, you require the society to prosper. You dont want to pay tax? tough shit
"At present, CO2 levels have already risen from 280 parts per million to nearly 390 ppm since the Industrial Revolution and could exceed a 70 percent increase during this century, a rate much faster than the Palaeocene-Eocene event, Zeebe said."
Did you even read it? LOL Wow... suggestion my friend: stop trying to understand global warming on YouTube... and try Googling a little organization called the IPCC.
Honestly, you will get the same level of honest informaiton from Youtube than you will at any govt. or private org website. These organizations are so tied to Washington through private industry, they will give them the results they want, so until the sky turns red or green, I will keep pressing.
Since I am a PhD in Meteorology, I decided to read the news about Global Warming...
Well, "HowTheWorldWorks" doesn't know how to read!
Essentially, the article said that Global Warming can be only worse, because past warming episodes happened with less greenhouse gases.
Our climate simulations use scenarios of different greenhouse gases emissions, but even if we stop the emissions NOW we would have some Global Warming.
someone with a PhD in Meteorology reading the news for information? I've only got an MBA and even I know how to use databases through my old colleges for real facts.
I needed to read what he read to check the value of the article he mentioned and what it was about, didn't I?
A scientist will read the others' findings to confront against his, because, in science, we don't assume we know everything. I was expecting something that would deny the role of greenhouse gases, which was not the case.
Why exactly is taxing the rich a bad idea? We have it in the Netherlands and it works great. Plus, people who earn more than 350,000/year apparently aren't that much of a victim of the recession in the first place, at least not as much as some of the less wealthy.
In your link it said it would bring in hundreds of billions of dollars, taken from those that would suffer the least from it.
Please respond to englighten the less informed. :)
5.4% on income over 1 million. You're neglecting to acknowledge how taxation and benefits work because there are ceilings for various forms of taxation.
i love it when this moron starts talking about global warming. the fact that he's reluctant to accept what the vast majority of experts and no i don't mean al gore in the field of climatology have been telling us (and no, i don't mean al gore) only further strengthens my belief that this guy is completely full of sh*t on every issue he discusses.
"People from over 130 countries contributed to the IPCC Fourth Assessment Report over the previous 6 years. These people included more than 2500 scientific expert reviewers, more than 800 contributing authors, and more than 450 lead authors.
Of these, the Working Group 1 report (including the summary for policy makers) included contributions by 600 authors from 40 countries, over 620 expert reviewers, a large number of government reviewers, and representatives from 113 governments
Scientific American took a random sample of 30 of the 1,400 signatories claiming to hold a Ph.D. in a climate-related science. Of the 26 we were able to identify in various databases, 11 said they still agreed with the petition - one was an active climate researcher, two others had relevant expertise, and eight signed based on an informal evaluation. Six said they would not sign the petition today, three did not remember any such petition, one had died, and five did not answer repeated messages.
Crudely extrapolating, the petition supporters include a core of about 200 climate researchers a respectable number, though rather a small fraction of the climatological community.
ANYONE who votes for republicans (except for maybe ron paul) are some of the dumbest people out there.
Atleast democrats tell you their theives and socialists...the republicans claim to be defenders of capitalism and individual rights, what a load of BS.
This is the economic model of Russia and China...remember the oil tycoon in Russia? Because he diesn't share Putin's beliefs and his dictatorship, he was prosecuted for tax evasion and government of Russia just took over his oil businesses and sequestered his wealth and put him in jail. This would also happen soon in this administration.
5.4% that won't go toward employee raises, so you can have that vacation.
5.4% that won't be reinvested in the company so you can have better tools to do your job and be more productive.
5.4% that won't be used to expand the business so your rich boss can hire more employees.
5.4% to fund Obamacare, which the GAO has already said will not reduce healthcare costs... it will only keep money in the pockets of special interest groups.
No, it doesn't, but answers andrewh23's question (if he had gotten himself a job). So read the whole thread before you post and make yourself look like a fool or shut the fuck up.
And what lends credibility to his statement are good arguments, he doesn't need a good job to prove his intelligence.
A) Maybe, just maybe you should actually reply to the person you're responding to. You know, just a thought.
B) Making good arguments does not lend credibility. They're two different things. I assume you're the type of moron who would believe something someone said because they used a lot of big words.
So to recap. Don't be a moron and reply to the person you want to reply to and learn what credibility actually is.
I did reply to the person I wanted to reply to (andrewh23). You can easily see that if you click "See all". But anyway, you could have assumed that my comment was clearly addressed to somebody and was not a general comment, since I used the vocative "you dick" at the end of it. Even a moron like me could have deduced that.
No, I didn't click on your comment by accident, I didn't. I told you before: you just need to click on "View all the comments" to see that I replied to another person, as I'm seeing it right now, that easy.
And the correct word in the sentence "Otherwise I'd have more then two comments", is "than", not "then". Learn some grammar and leave me alone. It was your mistake. Check it out.
If they were trying to actually stimulate the economy, they would make it VERY VERY easy to start up your own business, and then NOT tax/charge licensing fees/any other fees, till you actually turn a profit.
So, you're stating that households that earn more then 350,000 a year will bypass this surcharge by taking more vacation?
WOW. Just WOW.
I mean, that's one of the most idiotic things I've ever heard. And because these people are going to take longer vacations there's going to be more unemployment because there's less money?
Do you have any sort of... I don't know... facts to back up this? I mean, you're expecting us to believe you over the economists in Obama's cabinet.
Many people have paid vacations for a few weeks a year... one could stay on vacation longer, for what is called an un-paid vacation if one chooses to do so one may drop his/her yearly wages down just low enough to avoid a higher tax bracket, or to avoid a surtax, if it proves to be more profitable
Yes, I understand the concept. I'm not asking what you would do in the situation, I'm asking what the average person does.
I'm asking for objective evidence to back up his claims. Otherwise it's a he said she said. Obama's financial team thinks it's good, how the world works thinks it's bad.
With conflicting opinions, who will I believe? I'll tell you I'm not going to be taking the opinions of a youtuber over professionals without evidence.
You're right. More vacations! And you know where those vacations will be? Well, they won't be touring the US. They'll be spending those vacation $ in other countries.
when did you start making sense??? wow... nice shit! They have to raise taxes, because their masters, the money changers, have told them to. They raise taxes on business owners, and they dump the tax on the little guy. We essentially will be paying the tax. What? You think they won't raise prices? haha... Super Inflation time. Buy hunting and fishing equipment while you can! And don't forget your water filter!!!
The reason I know this is my wife is a RN and the canadians who can afford it will do when time is of the essence. For instance : treatment for breast cancer which is rather common could be small procedure if detected early, if three monthes pass to see a specialist it could be a who different story. People that can afford are doing what they can do to have life.
5.4% tax on people making over 1MM a year. If youre making $1M and 54K is not a lot of money. We need stronger low and middle classes, which will drive the economy and increase the market for all the "small businesses" out there.
The canadien system has issues because it is underfunded. The waiting list everyone talks about are usually for elective surgeries. A one payer system will allow margins to be reinvested instead of paid out to shareholders, and costs can be reduced in the long term.
I live in the Pacific Northwest and the flood of Canadians coming down for healthcare is quite large. There is a reason they pay out of their own pocket for healthcare when it is free in Canada. He was saying the Canadians will have no where to go immediate quality healthcare.
I think I will thrive in "Mad Max"..."Road Warrior" World...so, I am actually looking forward to economic collapse!!!!!
(well, not really, I can also do well in a thriving world....this is the better option, but nice to know if worse comes to worse, not sweat, Bra...rule).
Thanks so much for bringing some of these ridiculous stories to light. Can you imagine if any of the major three networks had the courage to report these things to the uninformed armchairs of the nation?
"Global warming...global warming...global warning...repeat something long enough and it becomes "fact."
Oh, and did you know -- Algore REFUSES to debate anyone on global warming. If it's such an irrefutable fact, then why is he afraid?
Someone gave me a thumbs down for talking about eliminating income tax? Who the fuck in their right mind wants to pay that bullshit. Rich or poor, republican or democrat. You see, I am tired of the hypocrites on both sides. Dems want to raise taxes to pay for health care. Republicans want the rich to pay no taxes while the poor pay for the wars. Idiots.
Orion, bullcrap, Republicans are for the rich paying most of the bill as they did under George Bush. The top 10% paid 70% of the total tax bill. The poor pay jack shiite. The top 1% by themselves pay 40% of all federal taxes, according to MSN "Make 32K? You're in the top 50%", while the bottom 50% only pay 3% of all taxes!!!! The difference between the parties is that the Democrats believe the rich should be punished further beyond their majority share of taxes just for being successful.
rufless: I don't give a shit about two parties bickering. End the income tax. I agree, the rich should not be penalized for making money. Repubs and Dems are frauds, and you're a partisan hack. Corporations receive the largest amount of welfare. They just hate paying the taxes for it.
Face palm. Gov Perry of Texas just asked for $650 million in federal aid after turning down the $550 million to "spurn on" the tea baggers. And the report you cited? uh, all it says is the effects of CO2 are actually much greater than previously estimated. I guess the thing I question is if people are really convinced private industry can do a better job with health care, why are they afraid to let them prove it?
The people with money are the ones capable of fighting off socialism, and fascism, so must be destroyed. The government can't stand private citizens with property and capital. They are a threat.
The yowling masses go right along with it over and over, and over again. They use every ism they can to separate the people, and get them fighting amongst themselves..
Free people with capital, and the ability to save this country, are the administrations enemy.
Do you know anything about socialized medicine or do you just recite what you hear on Fox News? In the UK we have nationalized healthcare... this means we ALL get treatment when we need it and we don't "wait in ration lines". At the same time, those who don't want to use NHS hospitals can pay for private healthcare plans. What is wrong with this system? Why couldn't it work in the US? You might be able to afford insurance on the income from your 9000 subscribers, but many people can't!
If you are interested in a story about the free market taking the lead in production of alternative fuel sources without gov't intervention check out: blog. valcent. net, at the bottom of the blog is a link to a scientific american article about Exxon investing $600 million in algae-based biofuels.
The science and existing technology exists because of gov't funded projects back in the 70's, but it's the free market that will be making it economically viable.
Hey assholes. Republicans and Democrats. Enough with arguing over taxes. How about ELIMINATING the Income Tax altogether? That way you can spend your money how YOU want it. People would be able to afford private health care. We wouldn't have to raise taxes.
Age means everything when you have been out of high school for FIVE YEARS. Yes I can read schematics but what does that have to do with automation taking over all labor? Although I have not done "much" research on robotics, I can tell you that without a doubt, the vast majority of labor and service will DEFINITELY be done by humans in ten years. Hey, we all thank you for not using "ad hominem" again ya big cyber dork. Go wash behind your ears and turn that damn music down.
well i dont totally support u on this, but i mean come on, he is tryign the best, i mean the peole did choose him and not mccain we supported him, are u not gonna support him just cause hes not doing well and be a coward?? or are gonna see him through and the surtax u can kinda understand, i mean there has to be a kinda of balance between everyone, not everyone is rich and everyone is poor so hes simply trying to balance it out??? i mean if u balance it out u have a much eaqualer income
It'd be nice if people started doing business with each other with zero state involvement and grew so much that they made the state obsolete. No involuntary taxation and the like.
Stagflation is exactly what we're going to get, and I've been predicting that since Obama became President elect. Of course, it's not solely his fiscal policy that will bring it on just like it wasn't solely Carter's. It takes a decade of over spending to create the right environment for stagflation to exist to begin with.
I understand the risk of socializim is real. However, Some healthcare would be alot nicer then the no healthcare I have now.
I make good money and recieve insurance when there are jobs but, I have been laid off a minimum of once per year since 1999. WTF???
The last time I worked was in the begining of February and it had only been six months since my last lay off. The reason is always the same. Outsourced to china. It makes me sick!
I love these youngsters who are fed up with working already, and would sell their souls to anyone who will give a freebie, so they can have more time to kill brain cells and take wild risks all on someone else's dime! If you are 20 and aren't liberal you have no heart, if you are 40 and still liberal, you have no brain!
You sound like a 20 something. No experience yet you know it all. If you think that in TEN YEARS we will be able to automate everything you have spent too much time in your parents basement. There will always be a monetary form of trade, be it coins and paper or credits on a card it is still money.

CloudyBob 2 years ago
The desire to help people isn't a bad thing, stealing money to do it is.
He's advocating a voluntary society. Taxation is theft.
SpykerSpeed 2 years ago
I applaud your sense of idealism. Do you honestly believe that a given population would 'voluntarily' provide the necessary income to support necessary public services? If you dont want to pay tax and be part of society, go and live in the wilderness somewhere.
No matter what your profession, you require the society to prosper. You dont want to pay tax? tough shit

From the article you cited, smartass:
"At present, CO2 levels have already risen from 280 parts per million to nearly 390 ppm since the Industrial Revolution and could exceed a 70 percent increase during this century, a rate much faster than the Palaeocene-Eocene event, Zeebe said."
Did you even read it? LOL Wow... suggestion my friend: stop trying to understand global warming on YouTube... and try Googling a little organization called the IPCC.
PS. Your teeth look funny.

I needed to read what he read to check the value of the article he mentioned and what it was about, didn't I?
A scientist will read the others' findings to confront against his, because, in science, we don't assume we know everything. I was expecting something that would deny the role of greenhouse gases, which was not the case.

HTWW, I have a question.

i love it when this moron starts talking about global warming. the fact that he's reluctant to accept what the vast majority of experts and no i don't mean al gore in the field of climatology have been telling us (and no, i don't mean al gore) only further strengthens my belief that this guy is completely full of sh*t on every issue he discusses.
urwronganduknowit 2 years ago
Source, proof that the "vast majority" of experts support anthropogenic global warming.
Last time I checked, the body of scientists who came up with this "consensus" consisted of fewer than 100 scientists (IPCC)
The petition project, scientists who do not accept this theory, is numbered in the tens of thousands
aggiefitz 2 years ago
then you need to check again, einstein.
from wikipedia:
"People from over 130 countries contributed to the IPCC Fourth Assessment Report over the previous 6 years. These people included more than 2500 scientific expert reviewers, more than 800 contributing authors, and more than 450 lead authors.
urwronganduknowit 2 years ago
Of these, the Working Group 1 report (including the summary for policy makers) included contributions by 600 authors from 40 countries, over 620 expert reviewers, a large number of government reviewers, and representatives from 113 governments
urwronganduknowit 2 years ago
as for the petition project... i'd say it bears about the same amount of merit as the infamous dissent from darwin list.
urwronganduknowit 2 years ago
Scientific American took a random sample of 30 of the 1,400 signatories claiming to hold a Ph.D. in a climate-related science. Of the 26 we were able to identify in various databases, 11 said they still agreed with the petition - one was an active climate researcher, two others had relevant expertise, and eight signed based on an informal evaluation. Six said they would not sign the petition today, three did not remember any such petition, one had died, and five did not answer repeated messages.
urwronganduknowit 2 years ago
Crudely extrapolating, the petition supporters include a core of about 200 climate researchers a respectable number, though rather a small fraction of the climatological community.

Wish i could get taxed an additional 5.4%, it would mean i was making over $350,000 and i could probably afford to take a holiday.
Projoiner1 2 years ago
5.4% that won't go toward employee raises, so you can have that vacation.
5.4% that won't be reinvested in the company so you can have better tools to do your job and be more productive.
5.4% that won't be used to expand the business so your rich boss can hire more employees.
5.4% to fund Obamacare, which the GAO has already said will not reduce healthcare costs... it will only keep money in the pockets of special interest groups.

Ummm. Yeah. That's the point.
You CAN get taxed more: Start your OWN business; go to Medical OR Law School... ANY Profession will do!
Then, try Poverty...
Quit your job, file for Welfare... LIVE IT UP!

You can be a Drain on Society AND sit around pondering the IGNORANCE of your Absurd comments...

No, it doesn't, but answers andrewh23's question (if he had gotten himself a job). So read the whole thread before you post and make yourself look like a fool or shut the fuck up.
And what lends credibility to his statement are good arguments, he doesn't need a good job to prove his intelligence.
Resilience1983 2 years ago
A) Maybe, just maybe you should actually reply to the person you're responding to. You know, just a thought.
B) Making good arguments does not lend credibility. They're two different things. I assume you're the type of moron who would believe something someone said because they used a lot of big words.
So to recap. Don't be a moron and reply to the person you want to reply to and learn what credibility actually is.
K thx bye.
Rundvelt 2 years ago
I did reply to the person I wanted to reply to (andrewh23). You can easily see that if you click "See all". But anyway, you could have assumed that my comment was clearly addressed to somebody and was not a general comment, since I used the vocative "you dick" at the end of it. Even a moron like me could have deduced that.

You clicked on mine by accident, whatever. Just don't blame me for responding to your comment as if you replied to mine.
Rundvelt 2 years ago
No, I didn't click on your comment by accident, I didn't. I told you before: you just need to click on "View all the comments" to see that I replied to another person, as I'm seeing it right now, that easy.
And the correct word in the sentence "Otherwise I'd have more then two comments", is "than", not "then". Learn some grammar and leave me alone. It was your mistake. Check it out.

Yeah.
Rundvelt 2 years ago
Many people have paid vacations for a few weeks a year... one could stay on vacation longer, for what is called an un-paid vacation if one chooses to do so one may drop his/her yearly wages down just low enough to avoid a higher tax bracket, or to avoid a surtax, if it proves to be more profitable
1000mrj 2 years ago
Yes, I understand the concept. I'm not asking what you would do in the situation, I'm asking what the average person does.
I'm asking for objective evidence to back up his claims. Otherwise it's a he said she said. Obama's financial team thinks it's good, how the world works thinks it's bad.
With conflicting opinions, who will I believe? I'll tell you I'm not going to be taking the opinions of a youtuber over professionals without evidence.

The reason I know this is my wife is a RN and the canadians who can afford it will do when time is of the essence. For instance : treatment for breast cancer which is rather common could be small procedure if detected early, if three monthes pass to see a specialist it could be a who different story. People that can afford are doing what they can do to have life.
toneo2001 2 years ago
5.4% tax on people making over 1MM a year. If youre making $1M and 54K is not a lot of money. We need stronger low and middle classes, which will drive the economy and increase the market for all the "small businesses" out there.
The canadien system has issues because it is underfunded. The waiting list everyone talks about are usually for elective surgeries. A one payer system will allow margins to be reinvested instead of paid out to shareholders, and costs can be reduced in the long term.

Idiots.
Orion1232 2 years ago
Orion, bullcrap, Republicans are for the rich paying most of the bill as they did under George Bush. The top 10% paid 70% of the total tax bill. The poor pay jack shiite. The top 1% by themselves pay 40% of all federal taxes, according to MSN "Make 32K? You're in the top 50%", while the bottom 50% only pay 3% of all taxes!!!! The difference between the parties is that the Democrats believe the rich should be punished further beyond their majority share of taxes just for being successful.
