  • I got chills at 1:26, 1:54, 2:02, 2:30, 2:38, 2:41, 2:47, and 4:05 with some mini-chills in between. Absolutely love this piece. I'm playing 1st horn on this for our concert music at MCHS, GA and the chords in the horns alone that we hit are beautiful. Now we just need "Abram's Pursuit" to sound this good xD

  • i love this piece and i think they did i great job, and i hate myself cause i always find myself saying, "late entrance". im not even a director .

  • Playing this for Regional Band. Hopefully I'll be able to get 1st chair on Bass Clarinet and play the ending with the clarinet and flute. Luckily I've already played this piece, and that part prior to regions :O

For the song itself, probably one of the most beautiful pieces I've ever played. :'3 <3

  • We are currently working on this piece for our upcoming concert. The least I can is that this song is absolutely beautiful! I do agree with several people that it is played too quickly. This song needs to hang onto the amazing chords that are found within it. I can't wait until we perfect this song in our band, it will be amazing!

  • Bass Drum part is the best everybody:P

  • 2:41 that french horn lick gave me chills.

  • Impresionante

  • We sightread this a few times in wind ensemble, but never actually played it for any concert.

Needless to say, I was very disappointed.

  • I am currently playing this in honors band. It is an amazing piece. So simple and yet when I close my eyes I can see the sun setting. One of the best pieces I have ever played so far.

  • playing this for marching band and it is boss!!

  • we just revived this piece today in my 12th grade band, and it's absolutely beautiful.

  • I played this my senior year in high school at the last concert and played the clarinet part at the end, best moment of my life, I have never felt so much emotion playing a piece of music.

  • Not my favorite piece to play but one of the best. I performed this both my sophomore year and my junior year of high school. This piece was also one of the recordings that got my high school band into GMEA this year. Someone put our performance on youtube so go listen to it and post your comments. Our high school name is Newnan and our band is the Symphonic Winds.

  • Hi everyone! If you're interested, I recently posted a fantastic recording of Dusk with video score on my YouTube Channel. Best wishes!

  • 2010 MMEA All state. Piece 3. My favorite piece ever played at All state that year. I looked at it and i was kinda like "meh" first rehearsal, I had chills. During the performance, I cried during the climax, so pure and beautiful -3

  • @JJBRMusic 2010 MMEA All State was fun, however Illyrian Dances takes the cake as my favorite!

  • @devoncifuni Yessss!!! :D that was so fun to play! I loved the last movement! :D it was rather interesting yet, It sounded so much more 1600's then the first two in my opinion :D

  • Playing this song for part two of our marching band show this year

  • Is there any way to put this on an ipod?

  • This is amazing! :)

  • I played this my freshman year in high school.

The most moving song we've ever played. nothing topped it.

  • I played this last week! It's such a lovely song, and I had to keep myself from crying, it's so beautiful.

  • We played this my Senior year in Hs, It was amazing! Also it is really neat how everything came together. I played the baritone solo! :D

  • actually got steven bryant to comee to our all state band at UNCC and he said we were playing it perfect. Awesome piecee

  • I just came across this today - amazing to read all your kind comments about Dusk! BTW, I don't know which recording this is, but it's a bit too fast (especially at the climax) - I like for the piece to remain very slow throughout (q=48 or so). Just FYI for the next time you play - if the director is going too fast, tell him or her. ;)

Hope everyone has a great day and keeps making music!

  • Playing this with our marching band, i dont know how it will turn out but it sounds awesome so far

  • I got the chills when my band played this at MMC in grand rapids

  • I played this in Indianapolis Wind Ensemble a few years back, and this song was one of my favorites. It looks easy on paper, but it's gorgeous! I'd pay my band director to be able to play it again...

  • We were going over the chords in my Symphonic Band class, and at one point in the song, I'm not remembering where, there are two major chords played a whole step apart. I think it's a Db Major and an Eb Major, but i could be wrong. It's so cool!!!! :D

    String Bass player

  • We're playing this for a concert and today when we listened to a recording of it in class I had to keep myself from crying.. It sounds corny but the beauty almost made me cry

  • my band is playing this for spring concert(:

  • I love this peice, this is what made my middle school win state=)

  • @TacoJuiceMcWhatFace I played this song this year at all region and I'm a sophmore too! Haha! It's actually my favorite band song ever! I spent all weekend trying to find it and another girl told me that the name was "Dusk" not "Dawn" which is what I was searching for, hahaha!

  • My band is playing!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE DUSK!!!!

  • played it yesterday with the district wide honorband i was in.. i play tuba.. oh my gosh it was so amazing

  • I absolutely love this piece. I played it my Junior year of high school for AA festival. Amazing. I play the Oboe, wonderful experience. :)

  • i am a sophomore in high school and we are playing this

i am in LOVE with it

  • I had the honor of working with Mr. Bryant in performing this piece... you could really connect with his passion, it was one of my greatest musical memories. :D

  • just played this at honor band today....it is so beyond beautiful.

  • This song, although note wise easy- when you try to add the voice behind the instrument.... WOW! Talk about make or break the piece

  • I've always hated this song until just now. Wow. This is gorgeous.

  • @Naill0 I was at Honor Band too :)

  • Probably the first piece to ever send chills down my spine as I played it.

  • I beg to differ, the triple mallets in the vibes part is not easy...

  • You really have to be emotionally involved with this piece to play it the way it was meant to be played. I definitely was, not many of the other people in my band were. :/ Still love this piece.

  • (On my brothers account) I played this for band camp this past summer and got the flute solos. :)

I had to keep myself from crying while I played.

Beautiful work and Ill never forget how I felt when I finished the peice.

  • @TacoJuiceMcWhatFace ditto but im a clarinet :) we were going to play it for graduation but didnt :(

  • @TacoJuiceMcWhatFace ditto but im a clarinet :)

  • nicely timed entrances and releases, this band is really internally in sync

  • I am a male cellist, and I tear up while playing this!

  • I had the horn solo my sophomore year of high School it was so much fun to play I love this piece so much :D

  • I absolutely love this song. I wish it were longer.

  • bass clarinet, breath taking. french horns...beautiful. a simply angelic piece

  • I love this song <3 I listen to this to fall asleep.

  • @TacoJuiceMcWhatFace

Way to have the balls to admit you cried. Bravo.

  • If you like this piece, you should listen to "First Light." Steven Bryant does so much with tone color in all of his pieces that your ears have to be well in tune with pitch (no pun intended).

  • We are playing it this year in Marching Band and it so sooooo beautufully played! These one and us! :)

  • @XTheDeadFallenAngelX

    hahaha me too....

oh wait. WERE IN THE SAME BAND ;D

    guard girl for life :]

  • OBOE FTW

  • stephen is doing great music!

  • The first time I played this song I was so excited just from read the sheet music. I play french horn and I could tell that this is definitely a horn piece. The chords are beautifully blended and harmonized. So simple yet it sends chills up my spine everytime i hear it... Steven Bryant is the 2nd coming of Christ. :)

  • @JourdyPie16 Steven Bryant is good but you are over exaggerating by saying he is the second coming of Christ

  • i played this in my all state band... and it was honestly the first time ive ever gotten chills while rehersing a piece. this is one of my favorite songs and truely is one of the most gorgeous pieces written. oh and i got to meet steven bryant. :)

  • THis song is extremely hard. Might be just whole half and quarter notes but its extremely hard to make this song sound right.

  • this pat weekend i participated in NC 9-10 allstate. This song gave me goosebumps every time we played it :) we played it as our second chart

  • Just played this at the NC All-State 9-10 High School band concert. Awesome piece. And Steven Bryant lives in Durham, so he came and told us all these nice things and fixed it up nice 'n good. Happy face =)

  • I heard this song performed yesterday at the Atlantic Band Festival in Nova Scotia, and it was amazing. It gives me chills every time!

  • Steven Bryant is awesome! This piece is wonderful! Two years ago, he brought his piece, "First Light," to an Arkansas Composer's Symposium, and he is not only a fantastic composer, but also a fantastic person!

  • i am at the moment playing this piece for band and being an oboe player i have a lot of rest time to hear the piece and i swear to got every time we play this piece it just give me goosebumps

  • Tuba player... nice to get there and listen till the cool part in the middle section... paint the picture... it's gorgeous

    Woo Hoo... Go Arkansas native

  • My high school band is playing this for a competition. It proves to be a difficult piece, what with all the emotion involved. Also, we're playing it about half as fast as this version.

  • We played this amazing, wonderful piece just before performing the world premiere of the Zeppeling Sinfonie by Thomas Doss on the November 11th, 2008, composed for the 100th anniversary of the Zeppelin - Stiftung (Zeppelin Foundation) and our Orchestra: Stadtorchester Friedrichshafen (City Orchestra Friedrichshafen).

  • we r playing this at festival =)

  • I love it

  • We're playing this in my hs band for festival. :)

  • This song literally gives me the chills everytime i play it! By festival it's going to make me cry with emotion

  • 8D I love this song. We played it this year at Region. Might've got stuck with last chair, but this made it worth it.

  • Almost got the chance to play this at a regional honors band festival a few years back, but I didn't get a high enough chair in the euphonium section to qualify for the wind ensemble...

Hopefully, I'll get another opportunity to perform this piece. It's nothing short of beautiful.

  • ME tooo to all of thoose thing this song is gorgous exept after the 2nd week of playing this song they moved me to oboe since I play that too

  • Played this song at all-region symphonic. Simple, yet incredibly emotionally moving. Steven Bryant is a genius in composition.

  • This song is simply fantastic, its a shame that my band only played it for one concert :(

  • i got this song today in band and after playing this once in class i took the time to look this song up.

  • this is my favorite, except for when we played funkytown <3

  • When i first saw the sheet music, i was disappointed that my band had to resort to such an easy piece...little did i know how it would turn out ..

  • Comment removed

  • Played it my freshman year. So simple, yet when put together it sounds so complex.
