Oh poor Constantine, member of the IOC. I am sure he is broke and broken hearted. Ah, come one! His family's reign was a foreign decision and it was a matter of time before they had to leave. And thank God they did!
The ones who are bagging the King and his family are obvious ignorant of the truth!Ichallenge any of you to prove that the King of the Greeks)and yes he is that for life because the Church made him so)ever stole from the nation or the people. All this family has done for the previous 4 generations is to try and better the nation unlike the current crop of misfits.
At the time he took over his undemocratic office, Greece was still recovering from a number of national disasters, such as the eviction of the Greek community from Constantinople. However, with his hated mother, he was more concerned as to whether the word "royal" should be added or not before "armed forces". This was the beginning of his disagreement with the democratically elected George Papandreou whose government he helped to overthrow - as USA instructed.
Not a single member of these adventurers ever had uninterrupted stay in Greece. Their stay was met with constant hostility -- exiles and assassinations. Yet they held on to their "living", like a drowning man on a boat. Koko therefore is not the first of the Glücksburgs to be thrown out of the country. Let's hope this one stays out. There was a time he would return with a foreign force to reclaim his job. Greece turned them into millionaires. Now it's time to leave Greece alone.
"There was a time he would return with a foreign force". His uncle did exactly that. There is film footage, often shown in documentaries about the Greek Civil War, where his uncle and father, with American troops, are shelling positions held by former Resistance Fighters who were against their return from exile. They turned against those who fought the Germans while George spent the war at London Claridges Hotel as Mr Brown and Paul in the security of South Africa.
How true but subject to one caveat: the former Resistance fighters were in specific serving another foreign Power. The problem with Greece has always been that instead of striving for our own country we have been serving foreigners either on the side of the Monarchy or Communism.
I was born in 1984 and I have no experience of the Monarchy as some might have. I think it is ridiculous to consider the former King a threat. I must say though that I am ashamed that instead of turning Tatoi into a museum, we just leave it to fall apart. Whether some of you like it or not, it is part of our history. An interesting issue is to see whether Constantine will get a State funeral as former Head of State, as did Zita, the last Empress of Austria-Hungary when she died in 1989.
It has been announced a few hours ago that Tatoi would be turned into a museum. It could have been turned into a sanatorium or perhaps an Old Soldiers' Home.
My aunt, who was a barrister, a journalist, and a misguided avid supporter of this dronish figure, was approached by his secret police, one beautiful Attic afternoon of 1965, while sitting at Flokas with her father, an MP, and asked to account for the "communist document she was trying to decipher". It turned out that "cipher" was a language called English and the "communist document" was that week's edition of "The Economist" which was confiscated.
Byron was a foreigner too. However Byron was something that not a single member of the hated Glücksburgs ever was or would ever be: a PHILHELLENE. He did Greece a great service, and not a single Greek ever questioned his love for the country. Furthermore Byron spent his fortune on Greece rather than using Greece as a business venture. This is why Byron will be always loved in Greece, while the Glücksburgs will be despised as long as they are remembered.
Regardless of the racial, ethnic, or religious background, anyone with Greek nationality can hold political office -- assuming ofcourse that he/she is democratically elected. Venizelos might have had Jewish ancestry, but he had Greek nationality and was also elected by the people of Greece as their prime minister. This Mickey Mouse family were imposed on the country that gave birth to Democracy. Even in exile they try to cause as much harm as they can to the country that fed them for years.
Obviously so many complexes have to find their way out(via youtube) by expressing their misery, hatred, racism and bigotry! On the other hand it's very easy to find some lunatics with the same view and appear as a mob of ignorants.
A "gentleman?" -- A true gentleman accepts with dignity the fact that he is not wanted. A true gentleman does not resort to pamphleteering and cheap publicity in order to be accepted. If these evil comedians were so popular, then why did they have to kill their way, with the help of the USA, in order to impose themselves on the Greek State? And why still the political prisoners on the islands 24 years later? A true gentleman would simply SHUT UP.
If you know, has he been converted to Buddhism at the same time when his mother and sister were converted? If so, has he remained a Buddhist, or was he reconverted to Christianity?
Not certain. However, my father saw him making the sign of the cross during the funeral of President Makarios, when he was stationed by the diplomatic service in Cyprus. This was in 1977 - a few years after his mother and sister became Buddhists (late 1960s).
Noel Coward, in his published diaries, points out that Constantine was obsessed with the occult. Perhaps he turned to the supernatural in order to find out whether the Greek State would ever agree to re-adopt him and his family again.
We seem to have embarrassed "ahaemon" to a degree that he had to close his account. Surely he will reappear with a different name. He will be more careful with what he leaves in his favourites and search history next time, but his views and language will remain the same, and we shall be able to recognise him at a glance. The "king" has been informed about the tastes of one of his loyal supporters.
By the way you don't like "hideous Danish/German families" but you obviously prefer American/Polish/Romanian like Papandreou. What can i say? Selective racism seems to be very convenient for you.
The only pathetics here are the leftists traitors and bastards who say he is not Greek! At least he's not crook and thief like the modern politicians and his family helped Greece to stay in the western world by defeating the communists in the "civil war".
Ironically, the eventual dictator Papadopoulos, shown here, was one of his father's cronies. He served as a prosecutor in a series of show trials of political prisoners, in the 1950s. Like Paul, Constantine's father, Papadopoulos pushed always for the death sentence of those accused of being communists. Now, Constantine tries to promote himself as a democrat. However, there were more political prisoners when his father, and he, were kings, than during the dictatorship of Papadopoulos.
So he won in the Olympics. Big deal! At that time there was poverty in Greece. Many young men of his age, even if they could afford the time and money for such an expensive sport, were kept in the concentration camps with the endorsement of his father, and mother who always kept interfering in Greek politics.
He did nothing to abolish the concentration camps on the islands where those who were critical of the various American puppet governments were kept and tortured. America was pleased!
This pathetic little man is not even Greek. His Danish/German family were never accepted by the Greeks. One of them was killed, another died under suspicious circumstances, and all supported dictatorships and have been exiled from Greece at least once during their lifetime. They were imposed on the Greek people who never really accepted them. They hated democracy and were responsible for countless deaths. His parents were directly responsible for problems that the country is still facing today.
Also one of them was condemned to death in his absence for high treason and cowardice after abandoning his troops during while a war was on. He was the father of Prince Philip. He was rescued by the Royal Navy just in time, owing to the interference of George V.
