What should i do if my puppy just wants to stay at my feet? I guess she might just be too young, but ive got her to where she will heel, sit, and stay so i have no idea why shes not wanting to retrieve
I really wish they would start from the very beginning with these videos. They pretty much show the finished product instead of actually walking you through things. For example, it would be far more easier understood say you had a puppy, which is when you should actually begin the training. You'd have the perspective of having a younger, greener dog instead of one who's already got the basics down and ready to go.
@rvngizswt well you also need to get your dog to learn the smell of the waterfowl you are hunting so the scent will be familiar to it. But It's to get the basics down. Its to teach your dog that it MUST bring back whatever it is retrieving, back to you. So retrieving the bird is translated back to retrieving the toy back to the owner.
@MrJackanthony if you look carefully the rope is the dog, and when he throws the bird its not tied at all, if it hadnt been for you question I would have thought the bird was roped
@Anishpatel888 Hey nobody is a looser for asking a question. Please mind your tongue. The fact that anyone can simply say anything to anyone on youtube still amuses me.
I have a golden retriever/german shepherd mix, i would like to train him to be a bird dog. My puppy is 3months old, how young can you begin bird training? He's already learned the sit command, but he's still got a ways to go with 'come'. When can i beging the training and how should I start? Are there any steps I need to take?
haha thank! i needa go get a longer lead now. i tried training my dogs yesterday, two chocolate labs, sometimes they come back but other times they run off nd takes awhile to come back and drop the dummy.
You trained your dog very well! Im planning on buying a German longhair pointer this summer, do you have any tips on how to train him, apart from this vid?
You are confusing "mean" with having a CHOICE, like the way you choose to not eat meat and to love horses. By the way....vegetarians (spelled correctly) have more of an impact for more animal deaths than hunters. How do you think the farmers protect their crops from birds and varmints, by telling the animals they're mean for eating his profits? NO! He shoots, traps and poisons thems so he can he sell his vegetables to you, feed his family and pay his bills. WAKE UP!
Good job delivering to hand...but no release word like "give" or "out"?
Do you use a command like "mark" to have the dog mark the fall? How do you train for "steady to wing and fall?" I have had trouble with that because my dogs are so excited to retrieve.
:( wow i wish my dog didn't go after birds!
