thanks! one might think that a direct translation would be more logical,it would not however,have the essence of what the dialogue/titles wanted to convey at the time. subtitles are not simply direct translations of dialogue, but are conversions of the essence and tone being said in that dialogue. they do this for most if not all foreign language films too.

you can't do a verbatim translation mainly because the structure differs from one language to another. That's the reason why Semantics is at the uppermost level of a language pyramid, above grammar... :D
