  • Could never overdose on this track - miss u Marvin.

  • Like everyone else who responds to this video, I have always wished this song was longer, and I too could listen to it for hours. Thank you so much for this upload.

  • @simplymrfingers994

    You're welcome.:)

  • i could listen to this forever..it would be so nice if it was a 30 min re-mix.. ;-)

  • OMG my UMI used to play this album in my youthful dayz....this is a *JEMSTONE* 4 tru...give thanx for the looonnnggg unedited version!!!!!

  • INCREDIBLE STRINGS!!!! MARVIN'S MUSIC IS THE BEST OF THE HISTORY OF MUSIC!!!

  • @ :48 "I'll always love you Janis" lol I love Marvin!

  • WOW! What a treat. Never heard ths before. Very smooth.

  • beautiful

  • Thanks for the post. I seem to recall the original version of this song being REAL short...kinda the thing that EWF (Earth, Wind, and Fire) did with some of their songs. Wonder what J Dilla woulda did with this one.

  • This is the best version of this Motown classic.

  • N!!!!CE

  • props to the person who found the original cut. I had no idea.!!!Like some of the listeners, I too listened to the short version too many times to remember. love it

  • @t1973ful

To be fair, this version wasn't released until 2003, and only then, on a "Deluxe Edition" re-issue.

  • Ok this is where Leon Ware got the full set for this tune on his Musical Massage album. Well he did write the song!! Brilliant!

  • Wow...brings back such a feeling/memory......

  • I only heard the shorter version from the After The Dance album . This is great , thanks for posting this . Wow!! Sorry I said after the dance I WANT YOU ,WAS THE TITLE .

  • REGARDLESS IF YOU'RE NEAR OR FAR, I WANNA BE WHERE YOU ARE !!!

  • An extremely dope groove.

  • wow i'm loving the extended version...especially those strings....yeah!!

  • The beauty of this track is that he starts by blessing his children: Nona, Frankie, and Lil' Marvin...and wishes his wife @ the time Janis: Good Nite!! I love you all...then the track takes me another level....God Bless Leon Ware 4 sacrificing ego and maybe a lil' contempt by letting Marvin record and put his stamp on his material.

  • @11kful did he have a daughter named Denise? because it really sounds like right after he says night little mama I'll always love you Denise

  • @deniseguzzardo No, he said "I'll Always love you, Janis" - she was Marvin's 2nd former wife

  • @solesirching73 I know ;(..... but ..... I choose to live in my own fantasy LOL

  • @solesirching73 Yep, the whole album is an ode to Janis Hunter. Its also nice that his kids Marvin III and Nona got a shout out from their daddy. They'll always have that to listen to and remind them that he loved them.

  • I had to buy this version on this song today.. the cookout was a success my uncs and pops have never heard this version till today.

  • I am shellshocked!

My favourite little song that I have been listening to for sooooo many years and finally an actual song!!

    Dreams realized!!

    Thank you!!!!!!

  • @Bossachic My dream, too. I remember dancing to this album in a place that resembled the cover art. Marvin Gaye was so special!

  • I had the original album...actually my mother did...and the original version was just over a minute. I always thought even then this had to be a song but why so short? Just an idea? Obviously there was more to it and here is the "directors cut." So beautiful to hear this fully realized.

  • @spinradiofm I KNOW!when he just went straight to tucking the kiddies in bed I was like NO WAY is this it! it was a CRIME! I was right though thanks marv

  • i betcha marvin is beating the hell out of the drums. he such a well rounded musician. singer piano player drummer. and he didnt even read music. that is pure talent

  • @mjjcng8958

James Gadson is listed as the drummer on this CD set.

  • @TheReturnOfStephan1 thanks for letting me know i only thought so because marvin was a drummer also.

  • @mjjcng8958

    You're welcome.:)

  • Fantastic! I shall just have to purchase this CD, since back in 1976, my mother thought the album cover was so sinful she threw it out! (Fortunately, she didn't know the record was not inside at the time ). Marvin is just so wonderful to listen to... anytime.

  • I too, constantly played shorter version...today is first ever hearing this....WOW..alway loved his chord changes..this is stunning!

  • Woah! What a masterpiece of smooooooth soul! I especially liked the melodic change at 3:57.......was this piece originally recordrd that length? What a mistake to shorten it......I used to play it over and over,,,I couldnt get enough of it!

  • OMG I used to play the original short version over and over again, back in the day, and always wondered what an extended version would be like. This is everything I imagined and more.....Marvin we love you.............

  • @andyd320 i know me too i never understood how such a mellow song like that was so short.Just goes to show the genius of marvin music like this came natural to him unlike me who would think damn i got to milk this for all its worth ill never make another song this good!lol

  • @andyd320 - I had this on EIGHT TRACK and in 1976 played in NON Stop in my 1969 Oldsmobile Toronado. Now that was a sweet ride! Too bad it only got 9 mpg on 'hi=test'....but man, what a treasured memory and THIS song was the background for a LOT of FUN!!!!

  • This is so very good :-)

  • The groove is just captivating. I find myself adlibing uncontrollably to the last part of it.

    Hey, I'm a singer. Whad'ya expect? LOL

    Feliz semana,

    Elsa

  • This reminds me of my 20s. This was one of my favorite records by Marvin Gaye and I just love this song - but I never heard that longer version! "Here, my Dear" (with "Anna's Song" and "When did you stop loving me..") is another record that I love... thanks for uploading!!

  • This track is from Disc 2 of Marvin Gaye's recently released "I Want You:Deluxe Edition" 2-CD set.

  • @TheReturnOfStephan1 Damn, this is tight. There's little goodies like this also on the rerelease of Let's Get it On and, I'd imagine, What's Going On.

  • @charliekkendo

    Definitely.

Motown's releasing some real gems, so appreciated in this time of corporate "musical" garbage.

Motown's showing exactly why it deserves to be seen as America's preeminent record label.

  • Yet another winner from you! Marvin was a once in a lifetime miracle, and you've captured that in this amazing homage....Thanks again!

  • luv it....goes down real smooth. Luv the "Good Times" painting!
