Great, Such a down to earth guy. I'm sure people might be cynical and say that he's cashing in with his connection to the legacy. But hell, wouldn't you after going through all that? I really hope he can reconcile with Paul before it's too late.
He might have or might not have been a better drummer than Ringo, but listening to him talk it seems that he just didn't fit their collective personality.
If Pete Best and Paul McCartney ever do meet, Pete Best will have to surround himself with so many lawyers to work out all the secrecy and silence clauses that will issue forth from McCartney. Pete will never be able to give another interview after his meeting with McCartney. Is it worth it? McCartney clamps anyone who might say something he doesn't want the world to know about - for fear of ruining his image. He's also the Beatle who had the least to say when it came to the Pete Best sacking.
At the time, pop bands weren't expected to last more than a couple of years anyway - no one, including Best, could ever have anticipated what was going to happen.
I think it's lousy that none of them ever gave him so much as a phone call afterwards. However, I presume he gets royalties for the tracks he's on on the Anthologies, though.
I saw and met Pete Best two years ago and, in talking with one of his bandmates after a concert, learned that TO THIS DAY none of the Beatles have EVER gotten in touch with Pete and had a face-to-face meeting since he was asked to leave the group. Amazing - after all these years.
Well, he's a nice man and in his youth he certainly looked the part. But his dismissal was probably a very common thing among young fledgling bands.
He didn't fit in, regardless of his (likely) talent.
There were irritations, grudges, ... No one could have predicted the Beatles' success at that time.
But finally, he wasn't forgotten at the issue of the Anthology series and got 3 million pounds for his contributions to their early (Hamburg, Decca) recordings.
Life is unfair and show business is more unfair. I heard he did make quite a bit of money when the Beatles Anthology series came out using the songs he played on, so maybe some justice was finally served to him.
I met Pete once.I don't know him, but I'd written a song I wanted him to have and I called at his house and gave it to him on an audio cassette. It is amazing that 3 of the 5 original Beatles are now gone, and I hope he's right when he says he feel he's destined to meet up with Paul again one day and I hope it finally clears the air after all these years.
Yeah, I'm looking at it from Pete Best's perspective, counting the line up that he'd been with before Ringo joined - the original 5 who went to Hamburg, and like he suggests, there's only him and Paul left now and it'd be good if they could get together somehow.I'm not devaluing Ringo's part at all.
Paul is dead, miss him miss him. So Pete is the last of the original Beatles. Pete is a class act. Not a crybaby like most people would be. I think he got the better end of the bargain in the end.
It's nice to hear him speak. what a great down to earth person he is. He seems to have his head on right. A wonderful historical figure in rock and roll.
