  • why do people like ka24's so much? this is a serious question and not to offend anybody but my altima has one and its slow as crap.

  • @kowclubproductions

yea for some reason they dont seem that special in altimas..

maybe its cause its mounted longitudinally.. on a stick car.. with rear wheel drive..

all that can probably do wonders for how a motor feels

lol i haven't got much motor-specific to say though

i know mine packed some nice low-end torque though as most do (or should)

the car could hang with a stock s2k if that says much..

  • @kowclubproductions bleh FWD. a KA24DE engine is lots of fun when its RWD. my dad drifts my Xterra, 5000 pounds of shear offroad SUV, on rainy days and it has a KA24DE. 240sx's's's's with KA's are an awesome autocross/touring/circuit build platform, and last FOREVER. an altima with a KA24DE is just a 4 door compact with a big buzzy engine. lol

  • @kowclubproductions probably cause yours is an automatic or its tired mine has 350 000 k on it and i still eat almost anything in my path not to toot my own horn but its a bloody fast 4 cyl once you unblock the exhaust! cause the cat and resonator restrict it alot

  • I just bought an s14, with a ka24de, I want to keep it n/a, what do I do? I know nothing about these as I've never had one. What kind of cams, intake etc.

  • Lemme see it sideways

  • on my 97 altima the part that made the biggest difference in high-end power was a short-ram intake. (out of iridium wires, plugs, and intake)

plugs and wires made it stronger through-out, but the intake felt like it totally changed the power curve. I felt as though I lost low end torque, and gained high-end HP.

  • If you want to fix that loss of high end power in the KA, IMO the best and cheapest way is to go to your junkyard, or since you own a 240 I assume you have some extra motors laying around your garage like the rest of us... lol

Get an s13 exhaust cam and swap it for you intake cam. Rotate the cam gear back 4 teeth IIRC. So now you have two exhaust cams (248/248 duration) and Ta-Da! Feel the pull over 5k :)

But it wasn't enough for me. Need boost!

  • nice. my alty ka is so much fun to do pulls in. i love the sound it makes when it gets past 4k. sounds ANGRY! lol

  • haha yeah, but after around 5500 all that anger is lost when the power feels like it got snatched away. but recently, after getting NGK wires and Iridium IX plugs, power is solid just about all the way through :)

  • i didnt notice any power in the high rpms after getting my ngk plugs. :( how many miles does yours have?

  • yeah what s that powerlossall about i noticed that today as I wasdrving bt with my new air filter a lot more high end power I love it

  • @nismoskys MSD helps a grip with those plugs and wires too....got that on my single cam mayhem!

  • yeah.. i usually shift at around 2500 .. yeh, at WOT, you can really feel the power die out after just around 5500

  • "yeah.. i usually shift at around 2500 .. yeh, at WOT, you can really feel the power die out after just around 5500 "

A 4 into 1 header will help your top end. Lots of the headers out there are a 4 into 2 into 1 config, which helps your midrange more than your top end. Above that you could look into cams if you wanted to keep it N/A and gain more top end. Pacesetter made a 4 into 1 header for the KA, pretty cheap too, but you'd need to have the welds on it reinforced.

  • interesting... yeah im debating between (for the long run) going KA-T or keeping it N/A... not looking for anything enormous out of it but would be happy with something quick and responsive. ITBs sound fun though :)

  • KA-T hands down. I went the N/A route with my KA sohc, and with full bolt-ons it was decently quick, but still slower than most turbo cars and even some Hondas/Acuras. Then I swapped in a CA18DET and I haven't looked back since. If you want to see any kind of substantial horsepower/torque increases you're going to have to go turbo. That's not a bad thing though, as a turbo kit can be pieced together on a budget and KA blocks are fairly cheap and easy to obtain.

  • Hmm... I'm obviously going to have to do much more research before I decide... but a key factor I would like to maintain is responsiveness. I wouldnt like to end up with a whole bunch of boost lag even if the power is there...

  • with a 2.4L that's not really going to be a problem unless you put a relatively large turbo on it. A gt28rs or something similar should provide way more power than an N/A setup, but would have very little lag.

  • Look at my car for example, I'm using the stock ceramic T25, which is lighter than steel, but only good for about 14psi and runs out of breath above 7k rpm. In my video when I do a 60km-160km run, you can see for yourself how little lag I have when I hit 60km and step on it, and I'm running a fairly large FMIC which is less responsive than a smaller SMIC. Unless you go high rpm or high displacement, you aren't going to yield very good numbers from an N/A setup no matter what you do =\

  • @nismoskys if you go ITBs get gsxr 1000 throttlebodys and set it up likewise. and use a ka24e cable instead of the de. the e one os a bit shorter and thats what you want with that configuration.

  • dang boi, limit your shifts to at 5500-6000, the KA cant breath much after that
