I remember watching this live, and i was watching this by myself. It was the ony Nascar race where i was on my feet screaming at the top of my lungs and what a great finish and i wasn't a fan of either driver. I've seen a lot of close finishes and great races this was the best nascar finish ever.
@thatkid780 No. It's happened before at Talladega. The "Big One" was so horrific going into turn 1 and one of the announcers said "Oh shit" NASCAR tried to turn his mic off right at the moment but when they did it sounds like he said "Oh shi-"
@Trevizdabomb actually a super speedway is anything over 2.5 Miles cause tracks like California and Michigan are not super speedways. The only tacks that are true Super Speedways are Daytona and Talladega.
@Nascarking24 It says on NASCAR.com<schedule<tracks. That California and Michigan are superspeedways. Pocono and Indianapolis are too, they're 2.5 miles long.
@Trevizdabomb A true NASCAR Fan (I.E. A CORE Fan) doesn't recognize California and Michigan as Super Speedway's but as Intermediate Tracks. And read the last sentence of my previous comment I said True Super Speedway. Core Fans don't recognize Pocono and Indianapolis as Super Speedway's.
@theMstanglover I'm a Gordon fan too:) I wasn't very upset. But that finish was phenomenal!! The margin of victory was the exact same as Busch and Craven's finish. Go Hendrick!! :D
@theMstanglover boyer shoulda had it anyway. look at the video johnson went below the yellow passing martin. i still dont see any evidence where johnson had passed boyer.
@zeidy388 Yeah that's true. I was just a little disappointed because Jeff had a chance then Martin lets go and bowyer comes then Johnson pulls it off. Amazing finish anyway. Feel happy for JJ.
This is probably a stupid question but how come they only use the high line at Darlington. How come they don't go right down to the bottom of the track. Is it because of different surfaces or because you can get better speeds up high.
@Spannerhead29 They used to race on the bottom with the highside as a sort of "safety zone." That was until 1 guy(forget his name) realized he could run the top and go so much faster than everybody else. The more banking there is the faster the car goes, like Bristol vs. Martinsville, so now everyone runs the top because thats where the speed is.
I loved watching Ricky win, but really wanted to see Dave Blaney actually do something, haha. Ricky is one of my all time favorites though- too bad he was never the same after Talladega. Great, great guy.
I remember this race. I had to turn the volume down because DW is so god damn annoying. You have no idea how ESPN would have called it. If Ned Jarrett and Benny Parson's were in the booth, they would have been just as excited, but not stupidly annoying as the FOX morons.
I was there in the Wallace stands on the top row behind the flag stand. BEST race finish I've ever seen still to this day. I met Kurt for the first time earlier that day, and became a lifelong fan since then. The walk back to the car, everybody was just buzzing about the great finish. We live for stuff like that. GO KURT!!!
I'm looking for the races that are considered to be the best in Nascar's history, to see if they can sway my own negative view of the sport. It's not working. If I were a Nascar fan, perhaps I could see the "thrill" in it. Thankfully, that will never happen. It might be worth seeing a live event, but I'd better not. I might accidentally like it- and then I'm fucked.
@sunsofguns You are right about accidentally liking it if you watched a race because that's how I got hooked, not that I see it as a bad thing. I never cared for it much but when I started watching a couple of races here and there I saw that everyone's stereotypical views of Nascar are all wrong. I will say though at least you look at videos and make your opinion off of them and dont just stereotype it. If you do that and dont like it, hey that's your opinion. At least you've made an effort.
This is the way a race is supposted to be....rough and tumble but yet the drivers respect each other enough not to wreck each other. Days of Thunder obviously comes to mind. Absolutely fucking spectacular finish! My hats off to Craven and Busch.
Ricky Craven in the good old days, one of my favorite race car drivers of all-time, man I love that car of his, haha. To me, the greatest NASCAR race finish of all-time, thanks a lot for the post..!!!
I met Kurt that day, a few hours earlier, and I became a fan ever since! I was right behind the flagstand, and a little bit left of it in sec M. I've been to almost 40 cup races, and this was the greatest finish, ever!
