  • My horse is a spaz! He throws his head about when putting it on, any tips. I usually just be patient and then he sort of settles down enough to slide his head in!

  • Beutiful

    video & horse

  • what is a simple change!?!?!?

  • Not all horses just stand there ! Mine doesn't

  • My Horse wouldn't just stand there and let me put it on...lol :)

  • I leave the halter on until I've got the saddle on. Then after the saddles on, I take it off. It's easier than only having one hand to put the bridle on with x

  • the tongue must be above or below of the bit ????????????? PLEASE REPLY ITS IMPORTANT! (i think above)

  • @MarsyChannel the bit goes over the horse's tongue

  • @Footphobics01 aha thanx....I knew it but I wasn't sure ... thnxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx!

  • @MarsyChannel lol ur welcome

  • I wish my horse was as good as your's. :( Duchess is a pain. She smacks her head around and nudges me. It's so annoying XD

  • yeah umm i am going to try putting my finger in the corner of my horse's mouth he wont put his bit in so ill try thanks

  • when you put the bridle on the horses head should be as low as it was in 1:35.. intill your done putting it on.

  • that throat latch was a little tight dont you think?

  • Ok look everyone who is sitting here being rude she is simply telling all this to people who DONT know how to do this!!!! shes doing a good job at her videos taking her own time out to make these. and you where looking this up its your fault for waisting your own time watchig it instead of being rude move on to a different video!

  • @LoLWTFBBQR ur so mean! I wish I could butcher you up into a thousand tiny pieces and show it to every body on youtube! JERK! That horse could kill you with its hoof! And i hope some day one does! I'd like to see you gone. And I hope one day a horse will eat u to! JERK :(

  • thank u very much! i find this helpful

  • Question : can you still keep the horse tied? Cause of certain reasons it would make it a lot easier for me. not in crossties but just tied to a rail or something

  • Comment removed

  • @LoLWTFBBQQR

ya know what? I like you! but only when your butchered into small piles of shit.

  • @LoLWTFBBQQR ur just plain mean. show some love for horses! :(

  • Does anyone know if you HAVE to be on the left side of the horse? when you are walking with a horse what side do you walk on?

  • @Cowpups When i asked my instructor said it depends what side the horse is comfortable with....hope that helped :)

  • @TheLoveOfHorses1 thanks! i guess its however the horse was trained.

  • @Cowpups

Horses naturally prefer you on their left.

  • @iHeartKyu why?

  • @Cowpups it should be more comfortable for u and the horse to walk and lead on the left side..... and you are supposed to walk and lead your horse on the left side ..... no matter what peope say it is way more comfortable for your horse.... it also keeps you in control and not your horse......

  • @Cowpups well thats usally is the side you have to walk on so yes.

  • thank you for this video, it has really helped me

I have started horseriding lessons & the bridle was really confusing me, this is the perfect explanation!

    5 stars

  • Very good lessons , thanx

  • you took the halter off, and placed your hand on its face. what good is that gunna do if it bolts? it should be tied up to one rope while your putting the bridle on. and you were scraping the bit on its teeth. nothing good to say about your way of things. the horse looks very uncomfortable.

  • @iloveriding100 you obviously dont know anything about horse back riding

    1) theres a 1/10 chance a trained horse to be gentle to buck when your just putting the tack on

2)she wasnt scrapeing it the horse was moving his mouth and even if she did its not like hes teeth will fall out there teeth are alot tuff or strong is what im going to say.

    3) and not every horse is going to like you its not like there all going to be fine and who know the horse might hate her but she can comtrol her

  • You should also Remove any hair that is under the bridle straps or it may frustrate her horse.but i'm sure she did that before mounting up or putting the saddle on.

  • she left the horses forelock under the brow band ur supposed to put the forelock over the brow band as if u dnt it'll hurt the horse's forehead but most of it was correct

  • I always have trouble putting the bridle on :( I can get the halter on with no problem he puts his head down and bows but when he sees the bridle he plays and raises his neck

  • poor horse :(

  • @lalokitaa11 why because she put a briddle on a horse??? i don't get you....

  • Cute horse! :D

  • another tip, when putting on a halter or bridle, only fold the horses ears over once where it is attatched to its head...if you scrunch its ear up or fold it up a lot it can hurt them

  • That horse is beautiful! Looks like a great ride in how to canter your horse! Thanks! I think this might help me get more confident riding again :)

  • OMG! thankyouu!

I work in a horses stables, and when i've been told to put tack on them, I always struggle opening their mouths to put the bits in... Thankss a bunch (:

  • you should put the bridle on before the saddle, becuz if the horse wants to lye down you can keep him from ruining the saddle!

  • I used to go horse back riding till I was 8 (no I don't mean lessons, just riding withough helmets or seat belts, etc.) but I live in a city area in los angeles and ough new to college and never have time to even look for a place I can ride a horse. I just love it! I still know how to ride 'em.

  • a flash is for more control in generally fast horses although it can be extremly dangerouse if it does not fit as it can stop breathing its not the ansswwer to a NAUGHTY HORSE! its cruel and can be very painful onsome horses always get advice before u use one as ive known one thts cut ito a horses muzzle and been very uncomfortable.

  • does the bit or bid whatever its called, does it go over the horses toung or under? SOMEONE PLEASE HELP, IM RIDING IN 2 DAYS AND I DONT KNOW....

  • over there toung it would be extremly uncomfortable if it was under and very dangerous for the horse and its a bit. if u want to no anything elsee abt horses just ask me ive lived with them all my life. goodluck with ur lesson xxx

  • thanks, so its over? and thanks so much for helping!

  • you got it sorta wrong ..

  • I disagree with a flash noseband. If a horse is opening his mouth to escape the bit, then either a different bit might solve the problem or the rider's hands are too heavy. Treat the cause, not the symptom.

  • I was always taught to fasten the throat latch first...isn't it weird that every trainer has their own right and wrong way of doing things...it's really confusing sometimes

  • Thanks

  • I do it exactly the same, except instead of taking off the halter completely I make it so the horses nose is free and the halter is just ariund its neck, then take it off after im done putting the bridle on. I find it gives you a little more control when dealing with a horse with a little "attitude" :P

  • i still haven't gotten bridling a horse yet! lol. I mean like i dont pull up the ear bands when the bit is in my horses mouth!! lol. then that makes her spit it out. haha. i get the bit inside her mouth......then i dont pull the head band up!!! lol.

  • SarafinaImelza i think u got it wrong the flash is to stop the horse opening its mouth when being ridden. my horse wears one as he opens his mouth causing me to have a little less control.

  • Wow!!this is way different from the way i do it dont use 2 tie things i only use 1

  • Remeber to pull the forelock out.

The flash band thing is only to protect people from being bitten

  • @SarafinaImelza the flash is also used just to keep there mouth closed so it looks better when your riding. I ride my horse with one for that reason, not because he bites.

  • Ya, flases arent used for biting horses, they are a measure of controll. I'm re-training my horse right now, and we're just getting used to bits again. I bought a new bridle with a flash so that he can't grab the bit in his teeth and take off, because thats what he used to do, and if he does that I no longer have any rein aids.

  • @SarafinaImelza the Flash Band stops the horse from moving his bit to the less sensitive part of the mouth and keeps the bit in place, not really to stop the horse biting

  • The horse i used to ride didnt use a bit we used a bit-less bridle.

but now i ride phoenix and he uses a bit but there isnt a flash noseband.

  • How old was your horse that didn't use a bit? did you use a bosal or a hackamore?

im curious too learn anything i can so I ask a lot of questions :)

my bridle doesn't have a nose band at all but it has the throat latch and the band in front of the ears :)

  • Umm... not sure how old but she had been originally a western horse and they think she used a bit that damaged her tounge so if she had a bit she would play with it alot. nope.. i didnt use a hackamore/ bosal . i dont know what its called but it kinda just crossed near where the noseband would tie... and if you slipped your hand into where the cross was you would feel the pressure if someone was to pull on the reins.

  • the bittless bridle is much different than a bosal or a hackamore. it doesnt put pressure on the nose such as a hackamore and is much less painful! =P

  • thanks :)

  • i thought those were for like pro's cause you don't have as much control over your horse

  • not really it can work for any horse my horse took to it right away it is actualy very painless and gives you plenty control

    =0

  • uhhhh I miss riding so much!

  • thank you sooooooooo much! i did something terrible, i got the bridle on, but i didnt adjust the cheek peice. damn melony was discoraged!

  • thanks.. i hate bridleing a horse because i couldn't do it but now i know! thanks!

  • there are so many straps in english...

  • its not as complicated as she makes it look

  • i agree too. in australia we call the strap she did second a drop nose band (:

  • she doesn't make it look complicated, she was just trying to kind of slow the process down to show beginners. :)

  • why they explaining english with an american vid? wouldnt it make more sense if she was english and described the equipment correctly? we call it a head collar NOT a "halter"

  • i agree x

  • lol

  • it's called a halter.

  • yes, maybe in america here in england we call them headcollars :D

  • i think head collars is a cool name :P its different, I like it. I wish I could live in england for a little while :) get a change of scenery

  • hehe england is cool,

  • @xdisneyfreakx in england? In england we call it a Halter and a head collar. In all the schools I've worked in they call it a halter when it has a lead rein attached but when you take it off we call it a head collar. :S

  • poor horse...the crownpeice is pinching his ears...get a larger bridle

  • if you hold the head, theyll stay still.

  • ha when i try to put a bridle on a horse at my stables she keeps moving her head away because she does not like the bit and when i get it on her she spits it out how can i help that

  • when you put her bridle on slip the bit right and then quickly put her ears in ans then do up all the straps that way she wont be able to coz she wont have enough room to and if that doesnt work then you should try holding the bit in her mouth by the rings on either side write back and tell me if it works

  • that bridle does not fit , it pinched behind his ears .....

  • thanks that really helped i suck at bridals and halters and how high the saddle need to be so i am practicing all these and getting better but thanks loads

  • I hav to get my uncle to help me because my pony puts her head up really high n i cant reach !

How can I stop her doing that ?

  • try putting a treat in your hand with the bit, while trying to put the bit in, it may work or may not. that how i first got my cousins horse to take the bit without hesitation.

  • If she does it when she rides, I suggest using a martingale on her.

  • u should put the halter round her neck coz she could take off quite easily

  • It really depends on what the horse is like, if you know he/she were to run off then you would put the halter around their neck. But if she trusts her horse, which obviously she does, you shouldnt have to.

  • umm your arm should rly go OVER the horses head when bridling, so that the horse doesnt throw there head and make you loose control.

  • It really depends on what the horse is like, some of them are comfertable with the way their owners put their stuff on, like in the video, i didint see a a problem with that.

  • she didn't even take the fore lock out from under the bridle ?!

  • Well done! noticed that- my old boy has a very long forelock.

  • lol my horse is perfect just he puts his head to the ground you just lift his head upand bridle him he doesnt you dont even need to hold his head but thats cause he is a school master so... yeah

  • I just tap my horse's lips and he will open for me instead of putting my thumb in and stuff like that. It takes a bit of practice tho.

  • i wish shadow would do that 4 me!

  • it takes practice. Calm and you get it down.

If you adopt a ex-race horse or companion, they are already trained (depending on if they were or not)

  • I used to ride and jump an OTTB and he was wonderful with grooming/tacking up. An "old pro". I know they're not all like that but you make a good point with your comment.

  • That is true, It all depends on how much you work/train & bond with your horse. Thats good that he will do that.

  • nice style i like!

  • Hey ashley some people do care on how too put a bridle on i would like too c u put on a bridle ten times better then her. yeah i thought so. so shut up you jerk

  • This is how many fingers you should be able to fit between the straps and the horse's head.

    Noseband: 2 fingers

    Cheekpieces: 2 fingers

    Brow and head: 2 fingers

    Throat lash: 1 fist

    Curb chain: 3 fingers

  • lol, its ok and i know this is random but do you know what a lead change is?lol

  • a lead change is when the horses changes its lead or the leg it was cantering with to the oppostie leg. just type in lead changeo n youtube and im sure you will find it

  • Ok, thanks alot

  • yeah oops

  • wow your horse is SO good about it my horse (the one i ride) always throws his head and pins his ears he HATES his bridle

  • Thats how i was taught, only we put the halter around her neck and keep one tie on...but i think thats just so the horse dont run away :P lol

  • Great, this explained really clearly, I always was worried about how tight the throatlash should be. Im a bit nervous about putting one on for the first time so my instructor will help, but thanks, at least I have a good starting point :)

  • not to be mean or anything GymnastO1794, cant u actually say something nice instead of puting yourself up, its puting a bridle on your horse, no 1 cares how fast or efficiently u can do it, pretty sure its not gona make much of a difference..

  • @teganlovesralph actually it can make a big diffrence!

  • and no one cares.....

  • I'm a western rider but isn't the throat latch a bit tight? I'm not trying to be mean i'm just curious.

  • It looks tight, but it's big enough for her to put her fist between it and her horses throat, so it's probably fine. To check it, you should be able to push it forward so that it can barely fit around the biggest part of your horses cheek, but not past it. That will make sure that there's just enough room for your horse to ensure that your horse can breathe freely while being round.

  • This is a really good video for bigginer riders to show them how to put the bridal on correctly :)

  • Nice video, beautiful HORSE!

  • THANKS VERY MUCH GREAT EXPLANATION

  • thank you very much,

    this really helped :)

    xx

  • Pretty horse.

  • this is kind of random but at 57 secs, the horse looks evil :P

    other than that cute horse!

  • umm u know nothing about jorses my mum does she was a jokey once and she came first in every race watch wat your doing with a horse

  • Well she knows how to put a bride on so stop being so rude no one really cares if your mom knows more about horses than this girl

  • well done but you forgot the forelock but tbh yu didnt seem to have that much control of that horse mind...but i think it did help alot of ppl soo well done !!

  • Whats up with all The rude and nasty comments? Expert village makes these videos for YOUR sake! I thought it helped alot. This is just so stupid! all the dumb comments...

  • That was about the most awkward way I've ever seen to bridle a horse. It's better to slip the halter off the nose and then pull it up and buckle it around the neck. This way if the horse pulls back he can't get away. I put my arm over the horse's neck and hold the crown with my right hand and guide the bit in with my left. If a horse won't stand for this, then he needs retraining.

  • people has there own way of doing stuff with horses everything shouldnt be the way of someones perspective just saying

  • I was just saying that it looked incredibly awkward to me.

  • Nobody that I know bridles their horses that way. I prefer to do it the way Mara shows.

  • People bridle different ways. The only way I ever do that, is when I am riding a certain pony that likes to attack other horses.

  • well done, but you forgot to sort out the foelock and poll-mane!!! D:Beautiful horse, she is very calm and patient!

  • thanks that really helped me with my horses, u r good

  • Great video! But you forgot to pull the forelock out of the browband as it may irritate the horse's forehead.

  • thanks

  • Very clear, understandable and easy to see. Was alot of help, thanks! Now i know how to bridle a horse :)

  • Well, first of all I don't think you take the halter completely off before putting the bridle on. But, ok.

  • Thanks that was alot of help!
