How do I ever start using cloth diapers. So many choices, I am overwhelmed. I need someone to tell me how many I need to buy. And, how much money I need to start!
Have you tried Thirsties AIO? I am trying to find a good AIO for night time. My 7month is a very heavy wetter I am have been changing her bum 3 times in the night. Right now I have the AIO Kushies and Prefolds - great during the day!
Thank you so much. I have been wondering what cloth diaper moms use to wet their reusable wipes with. This helps me and my husband feel more prepared for cloth diapers and reusable wipes before the baby gets here. Thanks again. XD We leaning more towards using the bum genius 3.0 one size pocket wipes and prefolds.
I don't spray anything on them at all. In fact I don't even use a lid or pail anymore, since Connor learned to pull them out and throw them around the house lol. Right now I just have the wetbag on the ground. We never have an issue with smell washing every other day.
I am expecting my first baby in October and have just watched all of your cloth diapering tutorials. They are SO HELPFUL. My husband and I are planning to give CDs a good try, but we do not know anyone else doing it (so, no hand-me-downs unfortunately!). We were wondering, is there a benefit of having many different types. After watching your videos we feel one-size BGs look the easiest...any reason other than cost to combine with prefolds? When all is said and done does cost come out similar?
The benefit of having a variety of different styles is that you can learn what works best for you, your family, and your baby. There are plenty of places online where you can buy, sell, and trade used diapers, so any you don't like can just be sold or traded for something you do like! Prefolds are BY FAR the cheapest, other kinds are just easier.
HEY ALL! since you are earth conscious, I will share that I use Viva paper towels cut into small squares. They are soft as fabric when wet. I fill a small container with luke warm water, dip the paper towel squares in and wipe away! You can flush or trash them when done. CHEAP, cleaner than wipes, and good for the planet
One step better is cloth wipes! Obviously you can't flush them, but you can get baby washcloths 5 or 10 for $1 at the Dollar store. Keep them in a container with water and toss them in the diaper pail for wash day! Even cheaper and even better for the planet!
As for the Qbaby CDs I recently learned that what makes them lose their "water-proof" ability is washing them in hot water. The seller now states on her sales page to wash them only in cold water. Not sure if that is a good thing. What are the best CDs you have used so far? Which do you recommmend the most? Thanks!
Well that explains it. I tried washing mine in only cold and it doesn't rinse the soap enough, giving my baby a rash!
I've recently started making my own pocket diapers (it's easier than it looks, when I get more material I'll make a video) and so far they are my favorites.
Rash is not a good thing. Wow. It sounds like Qbaby is not the way to go with CDs. Am interested in seeing your video about your making your own pocket diapers.
This has been so helpful to me! I'm a first time mom. I have a question - do you put the wipe solution in with all of the cloth wipes? If so, how much do you add?
I pour the wipe solution over the wipes inside the container. I just pour it over, and then lift up about halfway through and pour some more, then press to get it all the way through. I've never measured lol. I do end up wringing them out when I get to the bottom.
I know other moms who use a squirt bottle either on the dry wipe or straight on the babys bottom. Whatever works best for you!
Thats a good idea, just soaking them. I am planning on using CDs and due this fall and this was the only thing I was still scratching my head about. I've seen spray and squirt bottles on the CD websites and thought "ugh, what a pain." Thanks!
Hi there, I liked your video. I myself am 36 weeks pregnant and have made my own nappy stash, I have made 31 fitted pocket nappies and have bought 2 baby beehinds one size fits all and 4 pea pods waterproof pocket nappies. I have also made my own burp cloth, booster inserts (microfibre) and wool covers. I have also bought other nappy covers in differing sizes. I looking forward to using cloth nappies. Do you use a liner inside the nappy? do you wash the covers every time you change a nappy?
I don't use liners so far, but if I ever needed to use a diaper rash cream then I would use paper towels to protect my diapers. As for the covers, I just wipe them out and let them dry, then wash them once a week or so. I really want a wool soaker! My grandma offered to make me one if I can find the yarn and a pattern!
Well you will defnatley find a pattern on the internet, i made my own from second hand pure wool jumpers (there are patterns for them online too), then you just have to lanolinise it to make it waterproof and do that every month or so. Thanks for answering my questions.
So far the Kushies is doing good, but I only use it once in a while so I really can't be sure. No leaks so far though!
I haven't had any problems using baby oil, but I strip once a month whether I need to or not. I've heard it can build up, but like I said, I haven't had any problems.
Thanks for the video! I'm thinking of buying Kushies AIO's, do they tend to do a good job and hold up well? Also, does the baby oil wash out of your cloth wipes easily?

Do you spray any kind of enzyme or deodorizer on the diapers when you put them in the pail?
