  • what would a documentary about the internet be with out break beats in the background?

  • Myspace sucks.

  • Shawn Fanning killed music. I hope he burns in hell. He took the money right out of the pockets of artists like me. Killed my dreams and showed me that music is no longer a profession.

  • @InhabitantOfUniverse Could you supersize my fries, please? Thanks.

  • most annoying host ever!!

  • A guy who imagined a computer on every desktop? -That was NOT Bill Gates! It was Steve Jobs.

  • Controlled by no one? If you want something with no censorship nor control, check out Freenet or TOR. Not for PK people tho... you can use facebook etc and continue to dream.

  • the host is such a twat!

why does he have to move his head like a stupid bobblehead EVERYTIME he speaks??

  • ironically some one put this on youtube from discovery

  • aww youtube

  • This episode is actually the best one because it literally explains why simple individuals like us can make a huge difference worldwide with new and innovative ideas that can help others interact faster, easier and more efficient than ever before in the history of mankind.

Also the host is ideal for such kind of show, even he explains why in the beggining of each episode.

  • This guy is SO annoying to watch!

  • Ricky Ponting

    (Australian Cricket Team Captain)

  • so when is youtube gonna go down?

  • @formerutuber when a better free streaming player comes out, witch won't happen to soon seeing as youtube is owned by google and is at the same level as most tvs.

  • Lol yeah cos that sounds smart...telling random strangers in chatrooms not to spread a secret via the WORLD wide web.....that's like going on chatroulette and not expecting to see dicks flying all over the place...or getting an email saying you've inherited money....;D What? It could happen! XD

anywho it was a great discovery...was...

  • I wonder if John talks in that manor in real life too.

*bobble, bobble, bobble, emphasis on words, bobble, bobble*

  • I've probably watched this series 100 times. Seriously.

I love this series. I think this series will be a legend, akin to the Cosmos series.

But that could also have to do with the way John moves his head. ;D

  • @Xan81 youre right im addicted to the series also, this host is AWSOME!!! He should do more of these.. like a special only about Facebook or Google or any rising web company!

  • The internet must remain free from corporate and government meddling and control.

  • nice vid!

  • it's funny to call it people power, specially youtube that trying its best to distract audience from a really important fact about the world.

take for instance the baby video that hits more than 70 million reviews in less than an year while Ron Paul videos hardly reaches a half a million ? plus you will get to see videos that been deleted and tackled like the Arrivals,

bottom line they like to make people think that they are power

  • can you give me the links?

  • thanx macha i missed out this part this week.

  • Video sharing has been around for around LONGER THAN YOUTUBE. I think people only popularize the sites with the simplest catchy names, else nobody would give a fuck about YouTube.

  • True! I was around (and old enough, unlike most youtubers it seems) to remember those times. But it WAS youtube that somehow blew the doors wide open when it came to video sharing. Was it simply the time it was released, it's user functions, or just luck? But somehow vid sharing exploded when Y/T came online. And it wasn't the name, there were dozens of other sites with just as catchy/simple names, that never got half the traffic Y/T did.

  • thanks for the vids, I've been looking for this ever since it got deleted off my DVR.

  • Perfect and fitting host :)

  • i have never managed to ride the web wave myself, got my own social network site i set up to be individual but i cant figure out how to earn money at it without jumping on some commercial bandwagon, how can you be individual and earn money too? yes, broadcast yourself on you tube but i do cartoon animations and they take a lot longer to make than a you tube video...

  • well maybe you can try making more simple cartoons to start out. You can be successful over the internet with just simple but ORIGINAL cartoons/comics. Look at Explosm for example, the Cyanide and happiness comics are very popular.

  • I loved this internet history series

    Thanks for sharing

  • Where can i Buy these DVD's?

  • i watched the show on Science Channel, it's awesome, this is required watching

  • they are showing them on discovery science in Asia. why did they put such a cool show on a crapy channel? this show a must watch for people who want to learn about the net revolution! 5 stars

  • How is this channel crappy?

  • Hey i watch this show...LOL

  • i dont know about digg gotta check it out

  • This is a really good series, however I was dissapointed by the episode "People Power". It just wasn't as compelling as "Browser Wars or "Search". The episode was too much about trashing old media and not enough story and exposition. Thanks for uploading this though. I wonder how Heilemann would feel about it after he somehow blames recording companies for having the audacity to frown on piracy.

  • I don't think the episode was about "trashing old media" at all -- Heilemann is, in fact, part of "old media." But he's perceptive enough to see that the democratization of mass media represented by the Net, with the access that implies, is so different than the traditional model relying upon corporate gatekeepers, is so different that it can be justly described as a revolution. And it's not about recording companies "frowning on piracy"; it's their myopic failure to embrace new technology.
