Logitech HD Webcam C510 with 720p Video and Swivel Design

Ok IM brand new to web cams but in looking this looks like one I could be interested in for the money and you sound fine. But the problem I have is I have an old monitor "NEC MULTISYNC 97F" and this cam will not attach to it but I do have desk shelving that runs across and above the monitor by 2" . So could this cam sit flat on a shelf ok?

That has outstanding video quality for a $40 webcam! The sound is terrible but can't complain for spending $40 bucks and getting picture like! Just use an external mic!

I use a Microsoft Lifecam HD, it's really good and tiny, but the main problem I have with it is that you CANNOT TURN OFF THE DAMN MIC AND USE A HEADSET WITH IT!!

I've watched about five of these C510 reviews and not one has had the subject in focus... not one. The background? Beautiful! But, and I guess this isn't really very important to most people, the actual subject? Not so much. How would that be fixed? Either the camera needs to center the measurement area or provide a fixed focus option (that is, let ME focus the thing on the actual subject.) Great background quality though!

@TheFrankFactor You do realize he is in front of a greenscreen, and image in the background is from google images? You can easily tell based on the lighting on the picture, and the lighting on him, and then the spill over as its just a hard cut. :/

It´s so strange, when i film with my webcam C510 and upload on youtube the quality doesnt get this good :/ WHY?! I placed my desk at a good area with the light etc, i got videos on my channel, i always film with my webcamera...but they does not get this crispy clear :(

I have noticed that on c510 very much not exact regulation of white balance, especially in dark corporal color looks too purple it is necessary to adjust sometimes it manually that color was natural

How does one remove the blue tint/screen glare that comes off of the computer screen when using a webcam? I notice that your skin returns to a normal colour only when you held the box up in front of the cam, otherwise your PC screen is just turning you blue :(. Happens to me too - annoying! How exactly did You record & upload the video with the Logitech C510 webcam. Because I called Logitech Germany and they said it's not possible to record with a webcam. Did You use a real video-camera (DV)?

@Lakse95 The C510 has digital zoom, up to 4x, like all rescent Logitech Models had. Since it just crops a part out of the Image, you would mess up the image Quality using it. I cannot recommend that! If you use the freeware VirtualDub instead of the Logitech Software to make Webcam Captures, you will get a slightly better image and a much better sound quality. Additional, you can save the files with any VFW-codec, so you will be able to use your Videos with MovieMaker without any Problems!

@VermilionZero depends on the Resolution. 30 fps Framerates are possible with 160x120, 176x144, 320x176, 320x240, 432x240, 352x288, 544x288, 640x360, 640x480, 752x416, 800x448, 864x480, 960x544, 1024x576, 800x600, 1184x656, 960x720 (720p 4:3), 1280x720 (720p 16:9), 1392x768, 1280x960 and 1280x1024. 24 fps framerates are possible with 1504x832 and 1600x896. The Maximum, 1600x1200 (2 Megapixels) supports framerates up to 20 fps. As for this Video: It has no ghosting, so i'd say it's 30 fps.

Chris - I just got a LifeCam HD 5000 - using Windows XP - AMD Dual Core 3.0Ghz - 2GBs ram and I cant get the full 720p experience. Im told this cam is a CPU resource hog. What are the system requirements (or what you use the Logitech C510 on) for this cam you are demo-ing? ing? eh - yeah. You know what I mean. Ish. :-)

Im more impressed with what Im seeing here than I am with my current LifeCam (although it is much better than my last 5 year old plain jane Logitech cheapy)

@luminire Of course you would be able to only use the mic... you just select the device in what ever program your using and if your not video chatting, its not going to stream video.

@rodneyseay08 Yes the C910 and the QuickCam Vision Pro for Mac are both Mac compatible, as well as the C510 and C310. I think the only issue with the latter two is that the logitech software that is shipped with them is windows only. I've found these cameras will work right out of the box in both mac and windows. Personally I dont even use the included software and it works flawlessly. the rightlight feature is actually hardware/driver based instead of software based unlike earlier models.

The quality of this video is very good but it's because it's a recording, be warned that if you were to have a 'live' webchat with someone the quality would not be anywhere near this good, there would be picture freezing and audio breakup/distortion due to your broadband server speeds. (Broadband speeds are grossly exaggerated by suppliers).

Based on this review ( and others) I went a head and bought the C510 to replace my 5 year sold Logitech webcam thinking I will improve the experience. I was wrong.

Installation was a nightmare! Caused my PC to hang (Window 7 64bits). Then managed to pass this hurdle another one came in - crashes Yahoo messenger, microphone stopped working after one video call, had to re-boot to get it on again. I don't know you managed to get this video quality but with optimized 720p it wasn't that impressive.
