why do you edit the dancing so much, i cant apprecaite the piece when its so choppy amd i cant see the actual movement as it was choreographed. this is cool and all, but i wish you could give viewers a less edited version that showed the dnce as a whole before it was broken up and cut and placed into different places.

i have to say that the editing is very well done and expresses a very different feeling from the original performance. this edit (arguably choreographic choice) gives a much more intimate and emotional charged tension to the piece, expressing a deep sense of brutality (psychologically) that underlies the search for love and intimacy for the gay men.

@screamalltheway101 I think the purpose of editing it like that is to encourage people to go see them live =P It is unfortunate though... But the business incentive is understandable. It's not like the arts are the most lucrative profession in the world, they gots to get money somehow!

i think both.. sometimes sexuality is expressed through violence and vice versa- i can't recall who said that most aspects of our lives are rooted in sexuality.

It would be near impossible to condense the video down and have a boring one camera shot just to gain "sense of the choreographic form." YouTube is to get people out there and noticed not a choreographic study. If you like what you see, find out where they are performing and buy a bloody ticket. God know comtem dance needs as much of an audience it can get.

I'd love to see unedited clips in order to gain a sense of the choreographic form. It is one thing to be able to innovate - it is another thing to create a cohesive whole & I'd love to see what I'm sure you've probably created. On the other hand - seeing things on YouTube isn't altogether condusive to seeing entire works is it?

I agree with slightlymoving. The edits kin dof distract. Though, I feel that the edits created a pleasant film aesthetic. Is there any way that you can post of non-edited taping?

like many dance clips on youtube this mostly shows how good your editor is. i'd be more interested to see some uncut footage of a show to actually have the opportunity to see your movement and aesthetic.

of course there's nothing wrong with the edit either, it's just that it doesn't give any sense of the performance. good for promo though i suppose.

Thank you for this comment. I actually edited this myself. I am the choreographer and one of the dancers in the piece. Based on past experience, I don't usually show unedited clips of my work because then people steal whole phrases and I see them in other people's work. Not cool. This is in fact for promo purposes only. In my opinion, no video can replace the experience of seeing dance live.

yep. you're absolutely right. it can't replace seeing dance. video always loses the vitality and usually diminishes the kinaesthetic response. it's a good edit, congrats.

perhaps you could change the description to explain that it's a promo edit... not that you have to, of course.

also (reached the character limit in that last comment!) i can understand your concerns about your material but because i'm interested in dance these sorts of edits don't really show me the aesthetic of the choreography. clearly you can both move well, but i have no sense of timing or phasing or development.
