Wow, cool! So there is more after the wish song. I need to re-read the book because I thought most of the companions died. The dwarf and elf did on the stairs I think and Jax died as well fighting a demon. I recall. I loved the sword very much but the wish song was the best of the original 3. So why would the elf stones be the 1srt movie? if we get a movie. If you need extras, or a main part call me, lol. You know I could do it. TB your writing has inspired me for literally generations. Thanks!
They decided to go with the second as 'Sword' was considered too similar to LOTR. Brooks himself confirmed this on his website. Still, this way the Shannara series can start off with a kick ass film (as the book is one of, if not, the best) and 'sword' can be used as a prequel to hopefully what is a number of films. Can't wait!!
I was pumped to see another shannara book but its not continuing the current story line? i hate that crap..obviously we know how it roughly ends as the descendants of the ohmsfords continue in books that follow....
My only problem with this is that it isn't an actual part of the storyline, so I don't really care for it. I would love to see a graphic novel of one of the books, and it not skipping anything... but that is asking for the impossible I guess.
But, for a first effort it was OK. If Terry agreed to collaborate on future stories in this format I would most likely buy & enjoy those as well. Not as much as his regular novels, but for what they are.
After reading it (with the understanding that he did not actually write the story--just the outline, but did approve everything before it was published), I have to say it was a pretty good start into this format. I think it provides a tantalizing additional story to Jair. The story seemed rather rushed in the 160 pages, so I would have preferred a much longer version that delved into some of the other chars more--especially the witch, & also Jair & Kimber's relationship.
Shannara & Landover cannot be ruined. They stand alone. My mom gave me an original "Sword" 35+ yrs ago. My husband barely read anything, ever, but after I read the Landover books 2 him, he read ALL Shannara books on his own & w/me. He, also can hardly wait 4 more. No other writer can match TBs love, accuracy & visualization. Mr. Brooks is truly in a class of his own - a legendary writer of skill & love. I look 4ward 2 the GN & movies, ala they remain true 2 TBs legend. :)
hell ya. Potter, dragonlance, they hold jack to brooks. The mans writing is great enough to be compared with some of the great story tellers like Tolkien and his freinds that sat around inn tables and exchanged stories with 1 another.
He sets everything in place to just step right into his world and feel and see everything he writes to happen.
terry whats going on you need money that bad that you just ruined the best series of books ever made buy turning it into a comic book this narrative guy cant even say the names right come on jrr tolken never turned his clasics into comics make a movie anything but a comic this is not yugio
GRaphic novels are a good idea becuase some people don't wanna sit down and try to use their imaginations and put in the time to picture things described by words. Sometimes a picture can be more powerful than a word. And btw, you keep saying "Yugio" Do you mean Yu Gi Oh? If you read the graphic novel Yu Gi Oh you'd see it's alot more grown up than the cartoon made for american children. They really took out alot of graphic stuff in that series to make it suitable for american children.
im a big terry brookes fan and i have been a fan since sword of shannarra was released this is wrong why is he gonna take a classic and turn it into a freaking comic book cause thats all it is another yugio im very disappointed
Oh please! i can watch this no more! This is the silliest thing I've ever seen. I have bought and read every single book Terry has written, but to make these megnificent books into this? NOOO! We got our own imagination! use the books to create images and pronounciation of the caracters and the world, don't ruin it by making it for us in such a simple way! I want more BOOKS! I want the Terry B(r)ooks!
I, too have been saying Shannara wrong, but I'm glad to hear that Terry is flexible. Is this in place of a real book? I don't like the idea of a graphic novel, I like visualizing things my own way, and this tends to put someone else's vision into my head.
LOL...You know i think its the Voice of Yu-gi-oh in the cartoon.....Doesnt really go well but give them credit....thats why books are so cool to read (especially terry brooks'(-: )they adapt themselves to the mind and imagination of the reader.
Pronounciation is always depressing with books. Once you hear the author pronounce something a way you wouldn't, you can never say it comfortably again.
I say Shuh-NAR-uh. Also, I say Awms-ford rather than Omes-ford. :o
I don't really like the trailor, but I have a feeling it's going to be fantastic.
Agreed, I've always pronounced Shannara the same way. However I've pronounced Ohmsford the same as they do here. I believe that's how you pronounce "ohms", the electrical measurement.
I've met a talked to Terry several times and he always stresses that there is no proper way to pronounce Shannara. He contends that he writes for us and who is he to define the way we read his books. I've actually heard him pronounce it both ways, so I still pronounce it differentl than in this video.
I too have been pronouncing Shannara wrong, but it's still cool. I can't wait to check this graphic novel out. I have been a fan since Terry's very first Shannara novel !!!
yeah i always thought it was pronounced as shanaarah. shanara sounds a bit hollow. But thats my perception. I could be wrong but it seems to me terry is looking desperate for a movie adaption, almost too desperate. Dont worry terry it will be done you just might not be around to see it. Your works will live on for ever!
3rd attempt in posting this comment: Ever since the early 90's I've said & even mentioned to Mr. Brooks personally, Elfstones should be adapted to the big screen & that was before L.O.T.R. I think it would do well there. Anyway, I've been reading the shannara collection since junior high and look foward to many more works by Mr. Brooks

Ok, right out of gate you got it wrong. It wasn't Jair that destroyed, it was his sister Brin. But thats ok I'll be checking it out anyway. I've been a Terry Brooks fan sense Wishstones. I'm interested to see someone else's view in the world of Shannara.
Odd, the Wishsong was always something that seemed better on paper because you could imagine it... but to actually SEE it would be odd.
I'm very curious about this. I'm not normally a fan of graphic novels, but I'll check this out. I also appreciate Terry's willingness to try new things. I enjoyed the Shannara video game. Mayhap I'll enjoy this.
I'm a big fan of the Shanara series and this looks like it could be good. The video is a bit cheesy though. And I always pronounced it in my head - 'Sha NAR ahh.'
