Looks good! I completed this on my X850XT (only as my Geforce 6800 Ultra died - it was superior). With an Athlon XP 2600+, 2GB RAM, Soundstorm sound. FRAPS makes everything lag like a dog though.
1650 has shader 3 , so ,........I Suggest to get a 5670 , It will work on a cheap PSU , If you are broke , get a 4650 (128bus Version), Beats both cards ....

Should work with CS Source on lowered settings - CS 1.6 is no problem. Crossfire I don't know what is I'm afraid. COD4s minimum requirements are GeForce 6600, ATI Radeon 9800 PRO or better so a FX5500 might be a bit of a stretch. Don't know if it has all the required shader thingies.

because you have a Required Processor which is an Athlon 64. I can run this on a XP 3200+ with a 1950 Pro just a few stutters etc, but its because im running on a Non Minimum CPU.
McKack is right, He's pc is actually faster then both Xbox 360 and Ps3, Ps3 and Xbox 360 Game Graphics are reduced to fit the console so you have a good framerate and even then on some games you can get frame spikes
Actually, you get better graphics and higher framerates on todays gaming- or even slighty-above-average PCs, and you get to play with a keyboard and mouse!... Third person shooters, platformers, sports games, driving games etc is perfect for consoles but fast paced multiplayer FPS gaming will reign supreme on PCs untill the day no TV input lag, delay, ghosting and mouse + keyboard is a standard with console gaming.

You are right about Computers not having to be superior to run videogames, but wrong about the PS3 & XBOX 360 not having GPU's. The PS3 has Nvidia RSX-RS @ 550 MHz and the XBOX 360 has ATI Xenos at 500 MHz. These are separate from their CPU's. The PS3 has a cell processor that runs @ 3.2 GHz and the XBOX 360 has what you would call a "Tri-Core" processor that also runs at 3.2 GHz. The difference? 1. CPU Architecture 2. RAM 3. Cooling 4. Depending on the game you play, sometimes HDD Speed too.

No, this was just to display that COD4 was pretty well made to be able to run smooth on such an old card.
If you want to run the most recent games coming out nowadays you should get something like the ATI Radeon HD 4### series or NVIDIA GeForce GTX2## series.
But remember a good CPU and RAM is pretty important too if you don't want a performance bottle-neck - in other words, I don't recommend putting one of them cards in a relatively "old" machine (like, Pentium 4 and older)

COD engine is great! I got the X850XT and I still love it, games like HL2E2,TF2,FEAR,COD4 play very smoothly on nice settings. If only the Bioshock programmers werent so lazy/greedy..... you need SM3.0 for Bioshock :( ( there are fixes though )
this game is built really well to be played on any system thats about 4 years old...plays better on any high end system.... trust me i have 3 rigs... my oldest system is similar to this and it runs the game extremely well... never drops below 30 fps Sweeeeeeet
The reason it's not so smooth in the video is because of the recording program using a lot of resources, and on top of that I recorded the video to the same old IDE harddrive the game was streaming all it's resources from.
I've got no problem running the game today with my new machine, but I don't game much anymore either way :)
your pc aint outdated dude, u can upgrade your mobo very well, like add a pentium dualcore and get a radeon hd 4850 and youll be good for another year or two
The graphics were perfectly tolerable. I tried it a bit after upgrading to HD3870, before switching to OS X and it wasn't a DEVASTATING difference. Now I just play it on the 360, owning everybody with XFPS, and don't have to worry that much about graphics anymore.

It IS X850 XT PE on that video... still its a lot, lot better card than mine. But even i can currently run my game with the same settings if i just put the resolution down a bit :P YouTube's resolution for vids is 320x240 so you cant really guess what hes resolution is.

Why don't you get some more RAM though? The prices are crazy low these days. Just a few years ago 4GB would have cost the same as a cheap computer today :) But 1GB extra will do just fine if you're running XP, preferably just switch that one out with a 2GB matched set with a decent FSB and timings.
You might see some improvement in fps but what it does best is cut down/remove stuttering and shorten loading times.

Your CPU is "OK" and yes I think you can upgrading to those gfx-cards just fine if that PCI 16x is PCI-Express. I guess 16x means it is by default... I'm on Mac now so I'm forgetting fast:)
Yeah, before the PSU blew up the computer where I recorded this, I actually played my way through quite a few levels in Crysis. I'll admit though Farcry on high looks better and runs smoother than Crysis on low. I don't know how they managed to screw that up :)
The only thing I would do if you play games and modern games at that still on that machine, I would get another video card because you are severly limited. Not by performance, but the lack of PS 3.0 on the X850 series. Which is sad to see, since the X8 series is a great performer still. Your cpu is still holding you back some, but not enough to where you have to upgrade it. I would go for a 9600 GT or an 8800GT.
gaomao, sorry to disappoint you but the ati x200 is not better than the ati 9800pro, not even non-pro 9800's. same way as the ati x850 is better than the ati x1300. unfortunately next gen card does not automatically mean better. especially not the cheaper ones.
Are you daft? My 486 and 21" monitor I got in 1997 can do higher resolutions than HDTV's. Do you even know what resolution full-HD is? Googling it now doesn't count...
HEY, your rig is outdated but not dead. you have socket 775 and pci-e so that means if you upgrade to a C2D and a 3850 or an 8800GS you'll be a happy camper. but this is still great for the x850xt. i'm a newbie that just built his first rig so i can't really comment on older cards. good job though ;)

I use XP and it can vary from 20 mins to 40 mins. It runs brilliantly until my pc shuts off and I have other games such as the orange box and cod2 where it doesn't crash.
HAHAHA oh wow. I get better framerates on my PC than any of the new games I've tried on 360 and PS3. The only game that don't stutter that much is exactly this game, CoD4 cause the engine is so awesome. Crap like BioShock, BlackSite Area 51, Assassin's Creed, Kane & Lynch, Mass Effect and even Gears of War stutter like shit on the 360. I tried SC Double Agent a while ago on the 360, I had to stop playing because the framerates ruined the gameplay. I think you need to get your eyes checked...
It's true for everything! Not only because of lazy coded engines but because PC's have surpassed current-gen consoles long time ago.
I'll bet you GTA IV won't be running silky-smooth just because the developers are cramming to much into an engine and console that just can't deal with it. But since the general public doesn't think the human eye can see more than 30fps they can use that as an excuse to get away with it.

No worries, you'll have no problems running Call of Duty 4 or other new games. If you're running Vista though for example you'll be getting lower framerates and performance hickups compared to XP. I've been testing Vista for a year and just went back to XP... Let's just say I could clearly notice a difference in games such as HL2, Crysis, STALKER (I had terrible hickups in STALKER!) BlackSite Area 51, Call of Juarez, Overlord, TimeShift... everything.
What do you think I should rather do? Upgrade to Windows Vista Ultimate or go to Windows XP Professional? Do you think it's possible with a GateWay computer? Because I used to have a Dell and that shit was terrible.
Hmm well, what version of Windows do you have right now? I've got no experience with GateWay from where I come from but if you're lucky you might be able to convince them to give you a discount on XP or exchange the license if you have Vista now. Just make up some stuff and tell them you're having lots of problems with Vista :) For example that you use some special programs for your work but it doesn't function with Vista (even in XP compatibility mode), that might be enough to do the trick.
Right now, an XFX 8600GT costs $80 on Newegg and comes with a copy of Company of Heroes. Also, a Radeon 3850 OC 512MB is $200 from Visontek. You can also find an 8800GT for around $240. All these GPUs seem like really good deals right now.
Yeah, the 8800GT and the HD 3870 are pretty good deals. I'm gonna let you all in on a little secret. I've got a Radeon HD 3870 now. I'm gonna be selling it quite soon though after I've saved up some more moolah and get the X2 version.

I have an AMD ATHLON xp2400. Im getting the 850xt(nearly same comparet to PE) and ive got 1gig ddr ram and AGP slot(ofcourse). Its been very slightly overclocked and im wondering if the game would look almost as good?

They don't make them anymore. Best luck is finding a used one but I recommend you buy a mid-range/priced card instead like the ATI Radeon HD 3870 or NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT

I bought mine when it was completely new for like $800+. Remember though the X1300(even XT if there's such a thing) is pretty much crap compared to the X850XT. It's one of the cheapest ones you get from the X1### series, so you could compare it to an X300 or something along those lines probably.
Some people get confused with these numbers though so It's understandable -- rule of thumb is; a higher number does not automatically mean better. Like a Radeon X1900XT beats a Radeon HD 2400 easily.

The reason it's not so smooth in the video is because of the recording program using a lot of resources, and on top of that I recorded the video to the same old IDE harddrive the game was streaming all it's resources from.
I've got no problem running the game today with my new machine, but I don't game much anymore either way :)

your pc aint outdated dude, u can upgrade your mobo very well, like add a pentium dualcore and get a radeon hd 4850 and youll be good for another year or two

The graphics were perfectly tolerable. I tried it a bit after upgrading to HD3870, before switching to OS X and it wasn't a DEVASTATING difference. Now I just play it on the 360, owning everybody with XFPS, and don't have to worry that much about graphics anymore.

I got this card!.. this card dont support "Specular-map" to make your golden guns SHINE... there is no difference when I turn specular map on/off no difference at all.. they just WONT SHINE.. and this card dont support DirectX 10.. I will get my new computer soon with a GTX280! cant WAIT!

I have an old Sapphire X800GT 128Mb which i bought used (30 dollars including postage), and even it can run this game damn smoothly :D (comparing to my GeForce 7300 SE which came with multimedia PC)... still im about to build an all new gaming pc this month...

It IS X850 XT PE on that video... still its a lot, lot better card than mine. But even i can currently run my game with the same settings if i just put the resolution down a bit :P YouTube's resolution for vids is 320x240 so you cant really guess what hes resolution is.

Why don't you get some more RAM though? The prices are crazy low these days. Just a few years ago 4GB would have cost the same as a cheap computer today :) But 1GB extra will do just fine if you're running XP, preferably just switch that one out with a 2GB matched set with a decent FSB and timings.
You might see some improvement in fps but what it does best is cut down/remove stuttering and shorten loading times.

Hey I need some help. I've got a Pentium 4 3.2 GHz processor, 2gb of ram, Radeon x600 graphics card (pci 16x). What would I need to run games like this and Bioshock. Can I upgrade my x600 to a radeon 3870 or Geforce 8800. Also do I need a better processor?

Your CPU is "OK" and yes I think you can upgrading to those gfx-cards just fine if that PCI 16x is PCI-Express. I guess 16x means it is by default... I'm on Mac now so I'm forgetting fast:)

Yeah, before the PSU blew up the computer where I recorded this, I actually played my way through quite a few levels in Crysis. I'll admit though Farcry on high looks better and runs smoother than Crysis on low. I don't know how they managed to screw that up :)

The only thing I would do if you play games and modern games at that still on that machine, I would get another video card because you are severly limited. Not by performance, but the lack of PS 3.0 on the X850 series. Which is sad to see, since the X8 series is a great performer still. Your cpu is still holding you back some, but not enough to where you have to upgrade it. I would go for a 9600 GT or an 8800GT.

Bullshit...i got an x200 which is 2 steps more than yours...and this game sucks on my computer...
Although i know it isnt the ram, Ghz, proccesor, softwares cause i checked them all...and it is even over the recommended requriements...
"in game" when im not looking on objects(which the vidoe card is handeling) but instead in the sky i can reload my gun really smooth

gaomao, sorry to disappoint you but the ati x200 is not better than the ati 9800pro, not even non-pro 9800's. same way as the ati x850 is better than the ati x1300. unfortunately next gen card does not automatically mean better. especially not the cheaper ones.

HEY, your rig is outdated but not dead. you have socket 775 and pci-e so that means if you upgrade to a C2D and a 3850 or an 8800GS you'll be a happy camper. but this is still great for the x850xt. i'm a newbie that just built his first rig so i can't really comment on older cards. good job though ;)

I have all of the necessary specs and it runs brilliantly but after twenty minutes my PC shuts off and goes into standby.Does any one else have that problem?. I'm really pissed off because i've had it since christmas and it was fine for two months. Any suggestions?

I use XP and it can vary from 20 mins to 40 mins. It runs brilliantly until my pc shuts off and I have other games such as the orange box and cod2 where it doesn't crash.

HAHAHA oh wow. I get better framerates on my PC than any of the new games I've tried on 360 and PS3. The only game that don't stutter that much is exactly this game, CoD4 cause the engine is so awesome. Crap like BioShock, BlackSite Area 51, Assassin's Creed, Kane & Lynch, Mass Effect and even Gears of War stutter like shit on the 360. I tried SC Double Agent a while ago on the 360, I had to stop playing because the framerates ruined the gameplay. I think you need to get your eyes checked...

It's true for everything! Not only because of lazy coded engines but because PC's have surpassed current-gen consoles long time ago.
I'll bet you GTA IV won't be running silky-smooth just because the developers are cramming to much into an engine and console that just can't deal with it. But since the general public doesn't think the human eye can see more than 30fps they can use that as an excuse to get away with it.

Naw I dont think so I just got my PC 2day. Its AMD Quad Core Phenom 9500 something...lol and 3gb RAM 500 GB Memory and that video card I've just mentioned. It's a GateWay PC. Is it possible to upgrade the graphics card (sorry, Ima noob to computers).

No worries, you'll have no problems running Call of Duty 4 or other new games. If you're running Vista though for example you'll be getting lower framerates and performance hickups compared to XP. I've been testing Vista for a year and just went back to XP... Let's just say I could clearly notice a difference in games such as HL2, Crysis, STALKER (I had terrible hickups in STALKER!) BlackSite Area 51, Call of Juarez, Overlord, TimeShift... everything.

What do you think I should rather do? Upgrade to Windows Vista Ultimate or go to Windows XP Professional? Do you think it's possible with a GateWay computer? Because I used to have a Dell and that shit was terrible.

Hmm well, what version of Windows do you have right now? I've got no experience with GateWay from where I come from but if you're lucky you might be able to convince them to give you a discount on XP or exchange the license if you have Vista now. Just make up some stuff and tell them you're having lots of problems with Vista :) For example that you use some special programs for your work but it doesn't function with Vista (even in XP compatibility mode), that might be enough to do the trick.

Right now, an XFX 8600GT costs $80 on Newegg and comes with a copy of Company of Heroes. Also, a Radeon 3850 OC 512MB is $200 from Visontek. You can also find an 8800GT for around $240. All these GPUs seem like really good deals right now.

Yeah, the 8800GT and the HD 3870 are pretty good deals. I'm gonna let you all in on a little secret. I've got a Radeon HD 3870 now. I'm gonna be selling it quite soon though after I've saved up some more moolah and get the X2 version.
I do miss making the X850XT vids though, I don't think you all would be interested in seeing me make vids of how games run on my new setup?

I have an AMD ATHLON xp2400. Im getting the 850xt(nearly same comparet to PE) and ive got 1gig ddr ram and AGP slot(ofcourse). Its been very slightly overclocked and im wondering if the game would look almost as good?

They don't make them anymore. Best luck is finding a used one but I recommend you buy a mid-range/priced card instead like the ATI Radeon HD 3870 or NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT

HOLY snap do u have shadow on!?!?!.. dam.. mines lag with shadows on.. i have x1300 (not xt) mixed with built in nvidia 6550 se... and going into 1024 reso lags me with shadows ALOT.. so i turn em off.. on 640 res, its good, and lags when im near smoke.. but urs.. dude ur like in the rain.. I bought mine when it was completely new for like $800+. Remember though the X1300(even XT if there's such a thing) is pretty much crap compared to the X850XT. It's one of the cheapest ones you get from the X1### series, so you could compare it to an X300 or something along those lines probably.
Some people get confused with these numbers though so It's understandable -- rule of thumb is; a higher number does not automatically mean better. Like a Radeon X1900XT beats a Radeon HD 2400 easily.

Well I can run CoD4 at 2048x1536 maxed out with 16x AF & 16xAA with 60fps on my 8800GTX, Something the PS3 could never do.

and yes, i do agree with your statement "I'm glad theres still a few people in this world who can code a good graphics engine". To many games today run so choppy when the system specs exceed the requirement, but it's nice to know Activision isn't completely sucking up to the video card market.
