A 7 minute response time is average to good depending on what they were doing at the time of the call. Even if they were in the engine with it running they would have to get out and put their turnouts on. In my opinion this was a good response by TFD. Also dude yelling in the video the gas is going to explode; it is very very unlikely that the gas lines are going to explode. The only real time that a gas explosion will occur is if the city's gas lines exploded first which caused the fire.
in regards to the response time, you have to drive 60 MPH to go 1 mile in a minute. Even if the firemen were sitting in the engine with the motor running and could drive 60 MPH without interruption to the scene of this fire it would have taken from 3 to 5 minutes to arrive depending on how far the station was from the fire. But they can not be sitting in the engine with the motor running, nor can they drive that fast, and they have to drive defensibly to avoid accidents along the way.
I think after this incident I would probably fight to have a closer either paid or volunteer dept closer, even tho it is a good time, a new home could be gone and completly gutted by the time they arrived...
we are only seeing what is there! I am sorry if I was a little harsh but I can only say what I see. I agree but considering my background. This gentleman was certainly being more paranoid then the cow being sent to the slaughter house. Being calm is more assertive then stressing out in situations like these. If you are calm and you don't panic. You will make evacuating much easier and safe. I will watch my words!
How is the house going to blow up? This guy screaming will only make people more paranoid! Someone shove a foot down his throat and shut him up! if there was a gas leak it would of already shown! These are the type of people that instill fear in others! He is A Fucking moron
@0524cami while i will agree it is silly to think it will blow up , it is still always smarter to get a safe distance from a burning house not knowing what may be inside especially because they were horders and could have had propane tanks, gas... etc in the garage, you can see it's full and the owner was severly burned on her arm and back from the flames being blown at her. Also i think moron is a little harsh considering you do not know how you might react in the same situation.
@thekindledone Yeah i have to agree it's a little annoying, but again he was just trying to get people away from a burning home, but i find it also quite funny :)
Glad no one was hurt. The house and the belongings can be replaced. Can't blame the fire dept. for response times. They get there as fast as they can and with the economy the way it is, city councils are slashing their funding while giving themselves a raise.
Another thing to keep in mind, when you started video, the fire was already exposing through the roof. Once that happens, the chances of stopping it & saving the house are very slim. All you can hope for with this is to save the exposures (Neighboring property).
It may have seemed like a long time from when you called until the first fire truck arrived. It always seems that way when you are waiting for help to arrive.
In fact is was approximately 6 minutes, 12 seconds according to the time on your video recording when Engine 4, which was at least 3.1 miles away, 8 minutes travel time according to Google Maps, arrived.
That's pretty effing fast given it was 4:15 in the afternoon when traffic is packed.
They did their best driving code 3 is a dangerous thing it is our responsibility to keep the public safe while we are responding they also were in radio service on the east side of their first due. its the people who criticize us and then vote to lower our staffing and close stations and trucks. but when its their emergencey they are very quick to point the finger at us.
Closest FD is on N. Dragoon St, about 3 miles away. That's approximately 8 mins driving time in traffic (assuming they are not busy with something else). The fire response time here is about average, but it when you're standing there waiting it feels like an eternity. Fire engines don't do 100 mph to calls, they only drive slightly faster than the speed limit when traffic allows.
Don't let the city close fire stations or reduce staffing levels. It will only get worse and people will will die.

The fire department might have reason for a 7 minute response but the police department did a bad job at responding.
