I recently purchased the TZ4 at Costco for a trip to NYC. I went back a month later and they had the TZ5 for less than I paid! Needless to say I am now the owner of the TZ5 and excited to try the HD video feature. If I just purchased the camera will I need the firmware update?
PS. I'm from Seattle and will try to post some local videos.
Actually I answered my own question. Anybody who wonders what version of firmware they have can visit the Panasonic website and search for the TZ5 and go to their software download section. There you can find instructions to help you locate the firmware version.
If you want to see some HD videos by Lumix TZ5, I've made 12 of them on my youtube videos (posted from the August 2008) I've done some time lapse movies too
i have this camera and i'm happy with all except in the video mode, it is very easy to loose focus but regains back quick. When i shoot video in 720p HD mode, i've to move the camera very very very very slow so it doesn't loose focus but it still does.
But yours seems do its job a little better... hmmm
hi, ihave the sony DSC T100 that can take long movie, i was wondering, wath is the size of the longest movie you can take, or how small can the flie be, in low format?
Heya, did you turn of the AF? I couldn't tell in the video but it looked like you had, seen alot of other videos where the camera constantly tries to focus through the entire clip.
Thinking about getting me an TZ5 but the constant focus problem is a bit of a downer. Fixed in new firmware or is it just alot better without the AF active?
I found a 8gb "high speed" micro sd card with an sd adapter at FRYS for $40.00 last month.
It's a generic a-data card, it says high speed but it did not provide any information on the card other than the non specific title.
I should have spent a little more and picked up a slightly better card with an actually tested and marked high speed xx card. Only because it leaves a little thought in the back of my head, that maybe it could be faster.
This camera is the best I ever had for night shots Hd video recording but it only records in .mov , its HUGEEEEE file size, really HUGE. 8.27 Minutes for 2GB.
yeah thats why i got the biggest card i could find lol.
I just downloaded sony vegas pro and adobe cs3 to edit my vids, i would have to say that adobe is about 15% better in the video wars. I do have a little preference towards adobe, because im familiar with the cs3 suite and premier is similar feeling.
I got a 8GB card. Now tell me, Do you know of any FREE software to convert it? I try to find it online but it always says: free download and then it a trial version :S there must be a free one like videora for iPod.

It now works great.

i was moving very slow.
I took my camera up to the lake to video friends wakeboarding.
I had to be very still if i had the camera zoomed either 8-10%
which is tough on a boat.
I just zoomed out to 4-6% and it looks great

3 hours at the lowest quality settings.
8 min at the hd quality setting.
The movies get huuuge. An 8gb card can hold 33min worth of video at the highest setting. Im not sure how small they can get.

thanks.
3 hours at the lowest quallity, will take all the 8mb?
greenati 3 years ago
it will only record up to 2gb at a time with video.

I would tend to stop and start and piece a lot of shorter clips together anyways, so no worries!

all you have to do is go into the menu and disable continious auto focus.

BTW, get the fastest card you can find or buy or afford.
It will help with the video.....

What kind of fast card do you use? The video is good.

By the way. I had to compress this vid quite a bit. My Internet connection is craaaaap, this vid really does not do the camera justice.
