Rachmaninoff did not approve of Horowitz playing this concertto!! Apparently, according to Rubinstein, Rachmaninoff considered the Grieg piano concerto the finest of all paino concerti!!
@bigmouthfrog2009 Don't forget Schumann's - arguably the biggest step forward for the genre since Mozart's KV 271 and a formative influence on Brahms, Grieg and Rachmaninoff alike.
OM Kasyapa... To see that picture of those 3 men of the past, frozen in their animated talk, those stern flowers in their background in a seemingly colossal vase, the sound of piano concert as if a faraway recording of an obsolete device... All in all most interesting. Really. Thank you.
Hey, I said that this was a perfect example of Toscanini's anti-slow-German philosophy, but I never said that I agreed with it! I'm Italian, but for me Furtwangler is God!
What a marvelous document! So rare and precious! I really enjoyed listening to it. Too bad it stopped right before the broken arpeggios in octaves! This is a perfect example of Toscaninin's anti-slow-german philosophy. Do you have the rest of the concerto? Thank you for sharing this!
Superb.TY kasyapa for posting.

i do have everything of the tosc. and walter recordings up that is known to have survived.

the climax of horowitz's interpretation (even more so in the walter recording i have up) carries me away every time.

It may be true - I am not going to dispute your taste - , however as far as he Brahms interpretation is concerned, this is clearly not
Horowitz´s cup of tea. I have the whole thing - it was issued on "Bruno Walter Rarities 1",
AS 400.
