First, i don`t like tribute bands. I keep thinking of the word "Wannabes". But these guys are something else. I grew up loving the BBs and have every respect for Brian Wilson and the sound he created but hand on heart these guys are at least as good if not better. Just wish i lived in the states so that i could see them live. I would gladly part with cash to see them. Something i thought i`d never say about a tribute act. Absolutely the best. Keep on playing and entertaining.
From an old friend of Bo's back in the (college) days in the 'Burg - to coin a phrase, "You guys ROCK!!" Love Papa's music - it does take me back...back.... Wish I lived in sunny CA to see you guys in person. Best to you, Bo. It's been too long... Jay D.
Oh yes and I am entitled to my opinion. The guy singing is good, but he exudes and aura of unconscious insecurity. Because he has to perform or top the original Brian Wilson voice. Sorry but Brian owns him, hands down.
Yep - all live. We have an amazing sound guy. People often think we're lip-syncing when we play live, but are amazed when they make it up to the stage to see that we're playing everything live, no tracks or sequencers. We're from the old school & believe that bands should actually sing & play what the audience hears. Plus we have been doing these songs for 4 decades, and it's still really fun! Get the live DVD and see for yourself (papadoo dot com). - Don Z.
Hi my name is Martin Lawford and am a friend and have played in Adrians old band Gidea Park(i am sure he will be interested in the you tube performance so sad )Aid is a reaL GENIUS(I WORKED IN THE STUDIO WITH HIM FOR 15 YEARS)say hi and get him to reply to his emails cheers Martin
Hi say hello to Adrian Baker for me,in the previous mail i mention the sad performance, that was not PAPA BUT Gidea Park "sherry" ask Adrian to Check it out it is really sad.All the best Martin Lawford from Sunny Spain
PDRR played at our high school, in Yuba City, in the mid-70's several times. I still have the slides...somewhere.
I am still a fan living in Central Europe at the moment and just traveled down memory lane hooking up with you all again on youtube. I think I'll order the DVD.
Thanx, Brian. Come on out to Calif - we've got some cool gigs coming up this summer...
Santa Cruz Boardwalk's 100th Birthday (5/19), Irvine Meadows Amphitheater with 87 piece orchestra (7/4), and our annual S.Cruz Beach concert (8/10). We don't get out to the east coast very often, maybe once or twice a year. Check our calendar now & then at papadoo (dot) com.
Hello again Don. If you don't mind me asking why did Adian leave the BB's in 2003. My theory is he got tired of the travel or ,and I hope this doesn't sound mean, but Mike Love didn't want to pay him what he wanted and hired a bunch of very average players. That was the impression I got from doing the 2006 gig with them. Mikes attitude seemed to be "I don't care and it doesn't really matter".
Thanks for your comment, Lance. We think Adrian is FANTASTIC! He gets standing O's on just about every song he sings. I know there are several "Stingrays" bands. Are you the instrumental surf band from So Cal?
No, we do all '60 music, based out of Virginia Beach, Va. The concert was at the Ntelos amphitheater in Portsmouth, Va. We opened for them again this past august, 2006, and without Adrian, not so good. For some reason John Stamos the actor was playing with them.
i am glad Adrian sounds a lot better with you guys than he did early 2000 with the beach boys. He seems to be enjoing him self again. Love the PPDRR ann.medley from your site
I know Adrian can sound like Frankie Valli - and he can also sound like Brian. I hear Adrian do both every night we play. I also hear Jeff do Carl's voice every night we play. Jeff, Adrian, and I are all in PDRR together. Jeff is my brother-in-law and joined PDRR in 1991, and Adrian joined us in 2003. Jeff does a FANTASTIC job of singing DWB, better than the original record, but Adrian actually sounds more like Brian on that recording. Listen to it and you'll see what I mean.
Hope you don't mind, but I am a musician myself and know Adrian Baker's work for years, and no, he doesn't sound like Brian at all. It's not enough to sing high. I know what I hear.
Take care, hope you don't mind me giving my opinion.
Of course I don't mind. You are entitled to your opinion. The BB's aparentely thought Adrian sounded enough like Brian to have him in their band for 20 years! Jeff was hired by them to fill in for Carl when Carl was doing his solo thing. Please get a copy of Brian singing DWB and A/B it with Adrian. You'll be surprised.
I did do that, he sounds almost identical to Brian , I was wrong he sounds FREAKIN AWESOME. I saw the beach boys live here in brandon not to long ago , was that the guy doing the brian parts for them this year??. I agree with Lance , he does do Brian better then Brian .Brian has awesome vocal control , weird to say this but adrians is better.
nobody can sound like Brian wilson , much nobody sounds like you singing , they doa very nice job of this song , and he does sound a LITTLE like Brian but makes the song his own with the voice he has
Thanks for the compliment! Adrian was in the BB's for 20 years but in 2004 he joined Papa Doo. We actually traded our old buddy, Randel Kirsch, to the BB's for Adrian. Randell currently does most of the falsetto stuff in the BB's. - Don Z.

My band, The Stingrays, opened for the beach boys in august of 2003. Adrian gave me goose bumps. He did Brian better than Brain if thats possible.
