@fj9fl Actually, it is quite thrity on gas. We get around 15mpg but it really depends on which way the wind is blowing. Cruising speed is between 55-65mph. On a full tank (30 gal) we can go almost 450 miles.
One of the big reason I have a Corvair powered one is because I'm into Corvairs so removing the engine and putting something else in would be a BIG detractor for me. It would take away the much of the novelty as well. I've since taken the SuperTrapp muffler off. Didn't work out.
Nope, just one. 2 spds forward only but amazingly, it works well. A 3spd would be nice but if would require quite a bit of engineering. It's just part of the mystic and nostalgia of the Ultravan. Lightweight, functional, simplicity.
bet it gobbles gas.
